I bought game pass 1st month $1 trial just for this game and I am not disappointed whatsoever. This game reminds me of a more tradition jrpg game where as pokemon has never reminded me of that. You have a group that fights another group. The only time you have more than one pokemon out to fight is in double battles and with the exception of coliseum, those are rare. I like classic jrpg's will have to pick this up. I remember when they re released red, blue and yellow on ds I bought it. I decided to try a nuzlocke on it. That was a very hard run. I have tried that on other versions and they are really easy. Older games were actually difficult.

I thought until you got mama proc that each of the trees were tied to a specific move, it’s awesome that they’re not! Also, as far as grinding goes, I 100% agree with you. As someone who enjoyed, and still occasionally enjoys Warframe as well the grind can’t be the game. I go back to it, but all there is to do that’s new is grind something new, it’s utterly exhausting honestly. It’s almost expected for it to be a part time job. I’m honestly super glad I stopped playing it routinely. I’ll go back occasionally, but the grind just wears you down.

I really don't like grinding in grinding games but I tend to play a lot of them, ironicly. It's often the best experiences in them for me when your level, items, and dumb luck just barely preveils and lands you the victory, there's nothing better game-wise. It's a shame that whenever I replay one of those games I can never get that "down to the wire" feel because I often have a better chance to win on subsequent playthroughs.

The entire reason I stopped playing final fantasy 14 was the sheer amount of grind and the amount needed to keep up with the core group. The grind is the gameplay, that's all they release 90% of the time anymore.

i bought this game in early access back in 2018 and wasnt really expecting much, but it was a cheap game and my general rule of thumb is if i get an hour of fun per 5 bucks spent then i dont consider it a bad buy. Thing is i somehow missed the early access part so i didnt know it was unfinished at the time. When i hit that wall of content i was actually quite mad because i wanted to keep playing!! So glad this game is finished now, i stopped following it for awhile and recently got back into it. Its combat system is surprisingly complex yet simple. Imo the only reason Pokemon is still superior is the creature designs are indeed vastly better. Thats it. If they continue this game with a sequel in the future they could invest more time into designs to help combat that. Course competing with pokemon designs isnt exactly an easy feat.

There's actually a bunch of really good monster taming games going currently. Disc Creatures, Cassette Beasts, Mythren, Kindred Fates. Aniton looks really good but looking like they're going to end up just short of their goal on their kickstarter. At 58k out of 75k with 57 hours to go. ETA: Necromancer's Gift, too. TemTem, I guess. Frankly I think Monster Sanctuary has the better combat mechanics between it and TemTem.

In most pokemon games, playing through the adventure is actually easier if you only play one pokemon. You only really struggle in certain areas, and at the elite four etc, but you're so overleveled that you'd one shot everything in your way

I liked that they gave a new character appareance, I wasn't much keen on the red one, especially did felt like was just like an old guy with a beard but the blue one does look better for me, probably gonna get this game when possible since I do like me some Metroidvania too, and funny enough my first Metroidvania also had a monster that I had to take care XD Edit: I like grinding depeding on the game, I do grind when is like a new character joins the party but they are underleved or so, or just to level everyone ups to the same level, games that has like no grind (Ex: Certain FE games and Super Robot Wars) tend to feel very punishing if they don't cycle through the cast, I remember in Super Robot Wars L I never touched the Mazinger's characters but I was forced to use then when Kouji got the Mazinkaiser and was just hard till I got the other characters arrived. I kinda wish to see like in RPGs have the boss scale up to the player level if the player is overleved for the boss, I don't know if a game ever done that but is a concept that could prove kinda worth it.

can anyone explain to me the purpose of the passive called "overcast" it says "Increases the Mana Cost of all attacks, healing and shielding actions by 10% and the power by 15%." why would you ever want this...? is it just me or this sentence suggests that your mana cost goes up but thats it you gain nothing out of it?? am i missing something?? and i tried it just really increases the mana cost of abilities by 10% and 15% but their power and healing power stays the same why the fuck would we want higher mana cost if it gives no benefits? OR i am misunderstanding this and its trying to say that it increases the mana cost, increases healing and shielding and increases power by 15%?

The pokemon games get more _potential_ for challenge and difficulty as the generations go on, but they never embrace it. Larger move pools and the introduction of abilities and such mean that a wider variety of mons are viable for a playthrough, and stuff like infinite TM use really opens things up... but the games still insist on enemy trainers never having more than 3 pokemon except for boss fights or gimmick trainer (ha ha 6 majikarp how hi-larious :| ) and said mons are usually unerleveled and underevolved so there's no real challenge. This is exacerbated with the introduction of the EXP All and friendship mechanics in the most recent entries. Gamefreak have gone on record saying that the games need to be accessible enough for babies to play, (paraphrasing) so... yeah.
