Highway Express was purchased by Celadon. Harwood Cochran, the founder of Overnite Transportation started Highway Express after Union Pacific purchased Overnite. Not exactly sure about this, but, with the purchase of Overnite, Cochran was under a non compete agreement yet had his hand in the beginnings of Highway via a long time executive associate of Overnite. Either that, or, the UP deal was a hostile takeover. Either way, I know drivers that were "poached" from Overnite over to Highway that were told "Give us a year, we'll be at the same docks they are...." What you saw in MS was common place among Highway terminals for some time.

I had to string the other day and was trying to back up with the lead and gear. I gave up on the first one but the second time I got it right off.. Its very aggravating when you know a driver is possibly waiting on you…

It's been some time since I tried it on the yard as a hostler but at the end of the day, the best you'll ever be able to do is keep a lead and dolly straight. The second that dolly starts to go sideways, just stop and pull forward. Recovering a dolly on a lead in reverse is IMO impossible once you see around the front corner of a tire...

If a hotel ever tells you to leave before you get a phone call due to the check out time, just use your CLC card and get another room! The situation is completely out of your control.

when dropping and hooking like that, leave the empty set hooked and grab the lead and gear and rodeo them bad boys together to the rear and burn rubber, brother. Jockey can break that set. No sense in doing all that work when you can just rodeo the set, especially with a single axle tractor.. Plus, your new lead and dolly were already together

Thanks so much for the videos. Just a few questions.. 1) how many hours a day do you typically work, like ballpark range? 2) at the end of your work day, exactly how tired are you? After a 14 hour day of delivering food and walking 7 miles, I can say I'm almost dead by the time I get to my hotel, lol.

The hours I work any given day just depends on the runs I get. Anywhere from 6-14hrs typically.

PD for Central State region is $26.85. Overtime over 8 hours a day. The only thing that comes out of your check is taxes. Everything else is Company paid. It's equivalent to almost $41 an hour.
