@@gindamusic1296 As it's only this short bit (extracted clip) where Kimbra sings solo* in the song, Williestroker is likely referring to many prior comments here, claiming autotune is used on (some of) Gotye's vocals. Most comments have been referring to whole song or Gotye's bits in this clip, (where he sings his highest notes) & arguing about autotune being used or not being used. There's not many comments saying /claiming that (suggesting) that autotune was used on Kimbra's voice. So Willie is (possibly) arguing that autotune is used on his to get the high notes, while Kimbra can hit the notes, naturally. (*by Kimbra singing solo I'm just referring to the part where she comes in, not later parts of the song) A number of comments have said pitch adjustment was used, & while true adjustment is used prior to the "printing" of the master, for the CDs, Pitch Correction on vocals is a different thing. All the comments claiming autotune was used are by people that have never even watched a real live* clip, let alone never having seen Gotye live. (I Have, re both). *That "live" in that youtube short was recorded in the KCRW Radio Studios in California, so it has had mastering & mixing done, before it being released a video. I'm not saying it wasn't 100% recorded live, but some post production was done. It's actually very poor to compare those 2 clips to each other, for many reasons. For a true live clip & to see that Gotye doesn't need autotune find video: Somebody i used to know/Gotye Live performance/subtitulos. All I know is that these two have another level of talent education and ability. Very inspiring and impressive. They have something that clearly stands out in many ways. Keep up the good 💯

There’s no autotune on her vocals. They used compression some reverb and double tracked her part. That’s why it has that chorus sound effect on it. Double tracking is a technique that the Beatles already used to make certain parts stand out more. But she has no need for auto tune bc she can sing extremely well.
@Scott....... Жыл бұрын
On the live clip you mean? Bc on the record she's clearing using autotune
@cryrustmusic Жыл бұрын
@@Scott.......She does not. There's already been an analysis made of her separate vocal track of the song. Her pitch is slightly off the line and has natural wavelength changes. And they actually used only compression, reverb and doubling on some parts. Doubles backing tracks may have some pitch correction though for the fx, I'm not sure about that part. So basically it's just a very good studio take.

So in other words they were just singing with their natural voices? They sound fucking great live
@IzzyIkigai Жыл бұрын
you can't really say that because live-autotune exists and autotune is like makeup - you can do drag queen levels of autotune(like cher or all those autotune rappers) or you can do the "natural look" where people think that's how you wake up but in reality every voice, just as every face, will have some imperfections and some good days and some bad days. p much the only way to tell if someone is decent without autotune is to here them live, in person, and without any microphone.
@SealofPerfection Жыл бұрын
@@IzzyIkigai You can say it for this one. There's no auto tune or pitch correction here. Fil from Wings of Pegasus ran it through an analyzer and both performances have very minor mistakes in them that pitch correction would have caught...but it didn't, because they don't use it. They're just that good.
