harry pag Teachers in NJ work ~ 180 days a year. If you remove summers, holidays, weekends, teachers conventions... It equates to roughly 180 days a year. Not bad doing that for 20 to 25 years collecting a pension someone barely contributed to and, those platinum benefits the union heads didn’t wanna have teachers contribute 1% to.
@ican82435 жыл бұрын
Marilyn Tonelli 1/2 the time? What? No I am not a teacher, i work in the financial sector. Teachers work whatever the calendar year and contract dictate. On average 180 days. If they worked more they would get paid more. Most public school teachers have master degrees and are greatly underpaid. You could say the same of Police and Fire. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time I have heard a comment like yours. A person with a master degree in a private sector job would expect $150,000 based on 260 days of work. Governor Christie explained why and how New Jersey can’t possibly fund the pension. Unfortunately that teacher was only listening to her union, because the union backed and trusted the Democrats (as most municipal unions do). Democratic ideas and promises are great until they can’t be paid for. Which is all the time. Democrats sink unions!
@ican82435 жыл бұрын
Barry Smith most public workers absolutely contribute to their pensions (police, fire, DPW, teachers) 11% on average and only collect at best 60-80% of the pay. Saying a municipal worker does not contribute is wrong. I do think crazy health benefits that can be reduced to a normal amount is the thing to do. The municipal worker when retired still pays for some of the health benefit with their pension check. Most teachers go with what the union suggests- that’s wrong -- no Democrat is going to tell them how it is. Democrats will destroy anything they touch.

The question I have which no one seems able to answer is how these benefits were paid for? Pensions or defined benefits were in addition to your salary for over 70 years. Health insurance was free with little or no out of pocket costs. Now you have to take money out of your salary for a retirement fund. Pay huge monthly premiums out of a salary, that is stagnant at best over inflation, for health insurance that only kicks in after thousands of out of pocket expenses. Oh yea and paid time off is being chopped in half. So work more, get paid less, and spend your money on doctors bills. The American dream is all it ever was for a majority of Americans. I have to work 90-100 hours a week to get ahead. I wonder how long I can keep that up for until I drop dead of a heart attack. At least my kids won't be to upset. Sadly, teachers are not actually teaching much anymore. There are multiple reasons. One is that the the curriculum is being decided by people who aren’t teachers. They also are not teaching how to think but what to think. Also the I’m not here to be bullied comment, was a bit silly to me. She’s able to tell him what she’s thinks she knows but when he questioned how she “knows” what he could have done he’s bullying her. Hypocrisy. I’m a parent of three and pay for private school simply so my kids don’t have to deal with this crap. Not to mention the strikes, walk outs etc. When he answers, she argues that he’s wrong. She doesn’t go to the meetings he goes. She doesn’t know. It’s bs. Btw I’m not a Christie fan but he’s explaining the facts. Economics are fact based not feeling what you’ve earned. No one has earned free anything. People need to learn how to save their own money for retirement. Be responsible for yourself. Sorry, not sorry.

It's always nice when someone with pseudo and quasi facts gets confronted by someone who actually knows what's going on - wish it happened more often. (You know she would of had that audience feeling sorry for her if it hadn't been for Gov. Christie to dispel the misinformation. He did it straight forward and calmly, even though she came at him. I hate to say this, but think he is making sound arguments, the teacher only has perceptions based on some newspaper reading she did, the real situation is that you can't expect for the people to keep paying more and more taxes.
@HarryPotter-kd3bh5 жыл бұрын
her not being able to explain the problems in his policy doesn't mean that they don't exist. Chris Christie's whole operation depends to people not being able to articulate the fallacious counterarguments he makes, thus discrediting the questioner and marking them wrong. It's a cheap way to win debates. People deserve a better class of policy-makers.
