Apologies about the audio/voiceover in the video. I messed it up in post and didn't realise whilst editing. Please enable subtitles to understand better if you can't understand me without them. Thanks everyone for watching in any case! Timestamps are in the description if you want to skip around. Please let me know in the comments if you think I missed anything or if there's anything you think I could improve, thanks. Feel free to use the links in the description as it helps support the channel. They are affiliate links and I do receive a small commission, so thank you if you do use them. If not, that's still okay. I did a full review of the Hue Gradient Signe lamp a couple of weeks ago if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIubhWqgfNV5g6M

Great product comparison! I am a Hue fan, but honestly $300 for a signe is outrageous! Since I only need these for my home office, I figured I’d try Govee first. I am rather impressed with the overall experience with Govee you showed in your video. Looking forward to testing it out myself. Thanks again!

Thanks Wagner, yeah, the pricing of the Signe is ridiculous. Govee is a great alternative at less than half the price. More customisable and the remote is so convenient

If it's for the office and you can stand it being a desk lamp, rather than a floor lamp, you can get the smaller Signe for close to the same price as the Lyra in the video...
@JelaniZarathustra
@JelaniZarathustra 2 жыл бұрын
I have both and the Signe is substantially superior in build quality and fluidity in colors transition. The Lyra also has a bulkier power outlet while the Signe is a basic 2 prong. That said, its 2.5x the price making the Lyra an excellent value. Another bonus is the Lyra has a remote.

Thanks James, really glad you enjoyed the video. The Lyra is a fantastic piece of kit for the price. Will definitely be picking up more. The Signe Lamp is very expensive for pretty much the same thing. It's more responsive and the App is better, but I think it could have been priced lower. £180 - £200 would have been okay in my opinion. Hue definitely needs to update the App to add more dynamic scenes and allowing more freedom with the colour combos.

I got one at the same time on sale, and been happy with it. It got a lil flicker on one of the segments, in certain colors. I've had this happen a few times over the years, including this year with a phillips bulb, so seems like a color LED thing. Anyway, Govee CS simply asked for a video of it, and have now shipped me an entirely new lamp (which is amazing since the other one is honestly still perfectly usable, my gf is a bit annoyed by it, but I don't even notice. So even though there was a slight flaw, this level of Customer service and standing behind their warranty honestly gives them a bonus point imo. I've bought a lot of different smart lighting, but I'm slowly shifting my house to be entirely govee (it's annoying to use multiple apps) Also with the TV immersion govee products work together in amazing ways!

You have to nit pick the Govee in the comparison against Hue. I have 3 Govee H6072 lamps and totally satisfied with them. I also have the Hue table lamp, play bars, and the 1600 lumen color bulb. I love Hue but there isn't way I'd pay three hundred dollars for their floor lamp. Lighting is expensive and eventually will have to be replaced at some point in time when they cease functioning. The combination of Hue and Govee intergrating is absolutely amazing. I would have liked to stay in the Hue ecosystem, but not at their prices.

Been burned on several occasions and now don't go for the top models, due to your locked into them to get the best out of them. I hear you, but that also typically leaves you with a whole bunch of assorted systems, each with their own remotes and apps, or trying to combine it under something like Home Assistant which basically is something of a full time job... The Hue stuff is expensive and vendor-locked, but it works and keeps working, a rather Apple like experience. I have some products from OSRAM and Paul Neuhaus and they worked less well and failed after a few years. I think I had 1 light buld from Hue failing (out of 30 or so...).

I am unsure which to get. I could get the Philips Signe for EUR 269 and could get the Lyra through Amazon for EUR 198. Is the 70 euro jump difference worth it?
@ManchesterTechGuy
@ManchesterTechGuy 2 жыл бұрын
What about through Govee's website? The Signe is definitely overpriced, but if you're heavily invested in the Hue ecosystem then it's a solid new addition. However, it doesn't have as many features as the Govee and it isn't really worth the price difference. In my testing the Hue App is better and the light is more responsive since it uses Zigbee and doesn't rely on WiFi. The Govee is brighter in certain situations and it is so much more customizable. One new thing I've noticed with the Govee is that the light fixture wobbles slightly. The build quality is really good, but not as good as the Signe. Do you have other Hue products at the minute or will this be your first? If it will be your first Hue product, then I would go for the Govee instead as you'd need a Hue Bridge and Hue Sync Box if you wanted to sync your light with your TV.
@bernvall

I do acrually have a Philips TV and even a philips Hue go but…. 1) this signe lamp is going in a completely different room (my study room) 2) I do not even have a hue bridge yet as never really needed it. I did check that this new Signe lamp does not need a hue bridge as can connect to Bluetooth though Secondly, govee website has Lyra sold out. The only reason why Amazon priced it at 198 was a 40 Euro shipping fee (damn). Hence my struggle to decide hmm.
@ManchesterTechGuy
@ManchesterTechGuy 2 жыл бұрын
It's a tough decision, but since it's going in your study room, the Govee is the better option. You'll have loads of ways to customize the light to your preference. With the Signe, you only really benefit if you use it with a bunch of other Hue lights. I have the Signe as part of my Hue Sync setup and my Govee is like an accent light I can customize and move around if I want to. It'll eventually go into my Home Office, once I've sorted a few things out.

Govee is definitely a really good competitor and is very affordable compared to Philips Hue.

Both well over priced, the components are accually very cheap and can accually make them for a fraction of the price. Your paying for the name in both, far to expensive when there are others with as many features or more at half thd price go govee remote for the price is very poor

Fair point Dennis. I think the software experience is part of it, but yeah, they are both very expensive. If there's a smart RGB lamp you can recommend, I can check it out

@Manchester Tech Guy think 70% of the price your paying is the software. Trouble is that software after awhile becomes obsolete as phone and pc os systems change. Wereas say something like smart life app, which you can use may have a longer life, and if all fails, due to lack of functions on remote make it pretty useless.

@@denodan Yeah, that's a fair point honestly. My experience with Philips Hue, as expensive as it is, has been excellent in the 2+ years I've owned their lighting and that is a big reason why I can swallow the high prices. I've got LIFX, Govee and Smart Life products and the Hue Experience has been the smoothest out of all of them. This makes me kind of biased, but I do give other products a fair assessment. Any smart RGB lamps you think I should check out?

@Manchester Tech Guy Philps hue as an example did make their system obsolete or the hub obsolete, the old round one they no longer support. That's the trouble with these expensive setups, same sa harmony universal remotes, dropped them, but at the moment they are supporting the software. Seems I was looming at cheaper corner lightbars, and on the one I am getting, if and when it becomes obsolete all colours and functions can still be accessed through the remote, and yes it's voice and software actived also, but if that support stopped, the remote is very good and can still get all colour options, etc

@@denodan Yeah, that's a good point and I agree. However, since I'm always upgrading my tech when new stuff comes out, it's less of a concern for me. If the current hub is made redundant I'm sure the new version will support the existing lights I have, but like you suggested, there's no guarantee.
