Regardless of the arguments, £100,000 in one year is a ‘Lottery Win’ to the vast majority of people who live in the uk. Does anyone believe those companies would have paid £100,000 for ‘Safety Advice’ if the accused were ‘Not’ an MP? Shouldn’t the public have a ‘democratic’ say in this debacle? Mixing official political responsibility with business and personal wealth is not ‘democratic’, it is unpalatable to most UK citizens.

As it happens, my employer is advertising a vacancy for a new health and safety advisor. As a full time job with a minimum of 40 hours per week, this comes with a salary of £35k - £40k dependant upon experience. His corrupt colleague was found to have broken the rules on several counts and several rules. Just because the system didn’t hand out the desired outcome for the transgressor it is preposterous to then change the system. In may people’s opinion this should have been investigated by the police given the huge amounts of money for involved for “consultancies” from two companies amounting to £92000 per year for several years. Where s the voice of Keir Starmer here our ex Attorney General who successfully prosecuted corrupt MPs ….some politicians whom were sent to prison. In February 2010, Starmer announced the CPS's decision to prosecute three Labour MPs and a Conservative peer for offences relating to false accounting in the aftermath of the United Kingdom parliamentary expenses scandal.[31] They were all found guilty.

And the UK needs a change of government and its Leader should be the Internationally respected Statesman John Bercow.

I genuinely thought these things I left behind in a third world where I lived in for the first 10 years of my life. Corruption is really everywhere. Citizens are only citizens they are not stupid.

I’m struggling to understand what Rhees Mog is saying on the matter. Is he saying the standard committee installed by Parliament is flawed, and not fit for purpose, therefore all members who’ve had judgements passed against them in years gone by, should now be given the same entitlements he’s seeking for Patterson. I’m also unsure of his vision for a senior Judge to participate in a revised committee, unless of course it’s intended to make matters indulged in by Patterson a criminal offence, with an appropriate penalty, if found guilty.. I’m getting a bit doddery in my old age, and sometimes find such a Mickey Mouse approach difficult to believe Particularly when the present committee is being made to look so foolish and inept. Never seen anything like it since Theresa May conned Davies Davies into believing he was the Brexit Negotiator. How very silly she made him look.

Surely an independent committee. particularly one with a Senior Judge participating will have no accountability to the voters,.

There WAS cross party agreement yesterday. The cross party standards committee ruled that Paterson hadn't met the standard for public office. The sleazy Tories decided UNILATERALLY to disregard that committee finding.

Mogg appears to have a great number of principles… But in reality I don’t believe he has any at all. Welcome to the Conservative party.
