Two comments when I retired from RAFB we moved our 5th wheel camper to the land we purchased and live in it while we built our house. We had already sold our home in WR. Second comment yes make the garage larger by at least 4 feet in each direction! You want regret it.
@johnhelbig71102 ай бұрын
Make your garage larger; large enough, at least, to park your utility vehicle in. I’m 73 now and don’t want to (hard to) walk to the shed to get a machine. When we built our house in 2007-8, I specified a 3 car garage but with 2 12x8 foot doors. That left enough room for work benches,etc. We’ve been trying to build a new shed for the last year and a half. 40x60 with a 14ft lean to. Contractor comes occasionally and works, then has to pull off because he has several jobs going. His electrician sub started wiring in May, worked about a week and pulled out after doing about half the wiring. Up here in my Missouri county, permits have been taking minimum of 3-4 months to work through the system and get approved. I wish you the best of luck in building!

I love the crate. If you want it in your house, you could use it as a rustic kitchen island, or TV stand. If you have an outdoor cooking space, it would make an awesome meal prep island. It could also be used in your mud room. I loved watching the deer footage. I could sit and watch wildlife for hours. You're getting so close to breaking ground! I'm super excited for you both! I'm looking forward to watching the build.

I'd use the crate for growing things. Line with plastic, you could even plant flowers on the sides and an herb garden on top.😊

Another thought. Have a water source heat pump installed in your new home use your well water as the cooling source and discharge it into your pond. Your heat pump will be far more efficient which will reduce your power bill. I have done this in a previous home I built but didn't do it in my current home because I didn't have a good way to get rid of the water, no pond at this house.

Great video, glad to see the house is back on track! With your pond, did you look into a pond liner? If so, is there a reason you chose bentonite over a liner? I’m having the same problem with my pond and have been looking into a liner and then backfilling 6 to 12 inches of clay back over the liner so you can’t tell it’s there. I haven’t priced the bentonite yet but it seems like it might be more expensive and have the possibly of it not working well. Do you have any insight on bentonite vs liner? Thanks and God bless!
@PineyGroveHomestead2 ай бұрын
A liner is guaranteed not to leak if installed correctly, but that's fairly complex and we're worried about dogs and deer puncturing it around the edges. Bentonite done correctly has a high success rate and it's something we can do ourselves....I think!
@texas3gunner182 ай бұрын
@@PineyGroveHomestead Thank you, that’s great to know! Looking forward to those videos when the time comes
@rfb71172 ай бұрын
Brad.....you are correct. We had a 3/4 acre pond with a liner professionally done and REALLY fought it. The deer punctured the sides getting in and out and we had to continueously repair it. We ran aerators to try to keep it clean, but had to pump it out every few years and scrape the muck off the bottom haul it out and dump it. Very nice for the wildlife, BUT WAY TOO MUCH WORK!!!!!!!!!! @richardbrookins54062 ай бұрын
Make a planting table out of that crate. Also, cost plus is a horrible way to build a house. It rewards the contractor for making mistakes and wasting materials. If you think that cost plus is a good way to build look at all the nuclear plants that were cancelled when they just got too expensive to build because the contractors made the same mistakes on the last nuclear plant as in the first plant they built. Just keep a close eye on the contractor and ask to see the invoices for materials and subs.

The comment about the vegetables as being dead soldiers
@PineyGroveHomesteadАй бұрын
"Dead soldier" is an American slang term for an empty beer, wine, or liquor bottle, or an empty beer can. The term was first recorded between 1915 and 1920, and has largely replaced the term "dead man", which has been used as slang for "empty bottle" since the late 1600s.
