No - we always get full back pay. This is why I really enjoy the shut downs. 2 weeks of free vacation fully paid. I love it.

One of the few good things governor Schwarzenegger did in California was to pass an amendment that if the government was ever in shutdown the legislator's pay would drop to the federal minimum until the shutdown is resolved.

What they should be doing is forgoing their salaries. Maybe for a year or so. See if things improve.

I work for the fed - I love these shut downs. I already get 5 weeks of paid vacation every year, so these shutdowns add another 2 or 3 weeks to my vacation. I still get get paid in full. It's win-win for me.

@@georgeromo3506 Part of the problem? No. I don't have any say over what does or doesn't get done in DC. I'm just one of those who is smart enough to figure out how to exploit the situation I was thrust into. No one asked me if I wanted to pay taxes to a government. I was forced to, so I figured why not get something in return for it like a cushy $140,000 a year job?

Are you going to maintain public infrastructure? Provide subsidies for food and gas? "we don't need them" is stupid. What the government shutdowns are about is gridlock between the only two parties we have (which is an inevitable result of how our republic is structured) and their refusal to cooperate and come to an agreement to pass legislation, which is their job.

it not a real shut down we will still have active programs like ssi and emergency response and such what it means is all forward business stop and everything stale mates it remains this way until the government get their head out of there butt and make a decision on the budget spending agenda and yes employees should not get paid during this time.
