Governor Sanwo-Olu Orders Release Of Soldier In Viral Video

Here in Lagos state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu has ordered the release of one soldier arrested on Tuesday for riding on a motorcycle which was moving against traffic.
Video of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu went viral on Tuesday as he ordered the arrested some motorcyclists, including a lance corporal, for riding in the wrong direction along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Some of the riders left their motorcycles and took to their heels after sighting the governor.

Can the gentleman show us which section of the law makes the passenger culpable. It's wrongful arrest of the passenger until proven otherwise, and the young soldier should sue the state for wrongful, arrest, verbal abuse,assault, battery, and unlawful detention.

Why was the soldier released? Were the other passengers released too? When u start treating uniformed men who broke the laws wt reverence, u are indirectly encouraging others to follow suit. Iam totally disappointed in Gov. Sanwoolu for caving in to the envisaged threats of some few lawless remnants!

The soldier was released with a warning because he was the passenger on the bike and not the bike rider. Non of the passengers were arrested. The governor warned the passengers to stop encouraging and patronizing riders who ride against traffic in the extended version of the video. The bike riders were detained and charged to court.

He was released because the case has escalated to the Nigeria Army Chief of Staff office, and that's a federal level. Though he was released a warning was, at least that will teach the other soldiers not to go against laws, however he MUST be released immediately cos locking a soldier in a civilian prison is a taboo to the Nigeria military, so the governor too needs to avoid any mess. If the crime is so serious, then MP handles it.

Even if he was in active duty,no part of the Constitution says he can't be arrested and locked up in a public cell, pending transfer of the case to the MP. We should stop treating soldiers like demigods. They weren't conscripted; they chose the vocation. That you are a soldier doesn't make you a superhuman who's above the law. This nonsense happens only in Nigeria.

This is wrong.the governor is totally wrong by ordering the release of the soldier.it's the law of the land and not the law by the governor.he,too the governor is subject to the same law like everyone else.it's up to the Court to decide who should be released snd locked up.the governor cannot be the Maker and enforcer of the law asthis would amount to a dictatorship. The governor has no right to on this issue as this is clearly an abuse of power and this is something those of us in the diaspora are totally against. The fear of the army is the beginning of wisdom in Nigeria! The governor was probably intimidated by the prospects of a military backlash! The special treatment of the erring soldier will only set a bad precedent and enbolden further traffic violation! Leadership requires courage and the law must be administered without fear or favour!
