Rapido Bi-Level Go Transit Passenger Cars

I built hundreds of these cars at the Bombardier plant. AC vents, roof hatch detail, diaphragm detail is excellent. I model steam era, but I may pick up one of these just for nostalgia.

I think the "DCC Only plug" is used if you only plan to run it DCC.

Those are some nice looking cars. Rapido did a good job on these. I'm hoping Rapido will eventually do some more CN passenger cars including re-releases of the CN coaches and sleepers. Heavyweight cars would be nice also

I would love some super continental cars that are up to date and up to the same level as all the newer passenger equipment.

The patterns on the roof are a standard on most passenger equipment on go and via, it’s shows where emergency workers should cut the roof in case of an emergency without being an unsafe spot to cut

Pro tip for prototypical consists, the A-End, (the end with the split window) should always point towards the Cab-Car. Also depending on your era, on early bi-level trains the 23×× numbered coach would be the accessible car and be placed to line up with the platform mini-ramps.. On all later consists this was replaced with 25xx numbered cars and are now always placed 5th coach from the locomotive.

One thing I'm noticing as well on some GO consists is that they are putting old cab cars between 10-12 coach trains. I guess cus they have a surplus of them I think. I see this on a weekly basis as they go into Union Station.

If you ever look at a real train - passenger car colors rarely all look exactly the same. So you would actually look more realistic if you ran the beige car next to the super white car.

Back in the day before the MP40's , the F59's would pull between 10 and 12 car trains. Now their using them for the smaller 5 car trains.

Got interested in purchasing this train set today, so this video came out at just the right time. The Rapido website doesn't provide much information on the functionalities of the trains, so this video was very helpful. Look forward to your video on how to install the DCC chip! 🙂

Thanks for watching. There is a bit of a learning curve to it. Rapido should have a downloadable dcc file for the decoder soon and should be up on the site when they do. I will do my best to show how to open the car and do the install.

@@krisma12234 I appreciate the kind words. I too feel uneasy about doing or learning some aspects of the hobby. The only way to break that is to get right in there regardless of how it might turn out. I was never a fan of wiring but I try to keep it simple. Practice on a smaller scale layout like a diorama. Do a few different ones. Learn as you go and challenge yourself. You might just surprise yourself. Even now when I look at some of the things I have made… I feel like I could do better. We are own worst enemy some times. But this hobby has the best community and we support and help each other.

How well did they run in push mode around your layout?

They have good wheel sets and great couplers. I ran them both ways and didn’t have any real issues. They are lighter then Athearn Bilevels as well so 1 loco can push/pull more of these then the Athearn ones.

I have the Athearn Genesis version of these cars. Cookie cutter on their behalf. Lately I've been purchasing Rapido Trains Inc passenger equipment. And I've been running them more than other manufacturers I own. Once I get these Commuter coaches, the Athearn cars would be nothing more than fillers.

I don't think Athearn has produce/announce these in their Genesis line yet. But if they do, it better be just as good as the Rapido version plus maybe each coach will have sound/lights as their future 2023 release HO M-K Amtrak California cars. Yeah, the Athearn RTR cars are good as filler.

Hey man. So the reason the ditch lights and passenger lights aren’t fully working like they should is because the bi levels came equipped with a DC only plug. You’ll need to install the dcc plug that it came with. I suggest you to watch rapidos new video to see how to replace the dc plug

Thank you. I had switched over one of my cabs last night with the plug. I had seen how easy it was and planned to do a video on it. Lol Then I had seen the Rapido one today. Still odd that they say they will have a sound file available on their website. But they are now saying they don’t.

It was just odd that they did not just put the dcc decoder in then left the dc out. Or did not include a sound decoder… like athearns sound cars are g2g out of the package. I didn’t even realize that you don’t need to take the couplers out even though I did. (Old habit) but it was a fun learning experience.

My understanding is that if you are not going to put a sound decoder in then you can add that decoder so that you still get dcc function without sound.
