The Goweil Round Bale Slicer in action. This slicer is working on Rohan and Mike McGuire’s dairy farm near Diary near the coast down from Ashburton. The McGuires invested in this slicer after trying several other machines on the market and were impressed by its simplicity and ease of use compared to many of the other slicers. Rohan is currently feeding out around 1300 bales of silage and 400 bales of straw per year and was trying to figure out a way of beating the labour unit required to cut the plastic of each bale individually and then load them into his feedout wagon. Since running this Goweil slicer, Rohan has discovered how simple it is. He is loading a Robertson Super Combi with six bales in less than 15 minutes with all this being done from the tractor seat. Rohan’s words to us is that it is faster than loading a wagon with bulk silage and obviously the quality is a lot better. He found it easy to use, bale shape did not affect the slicer, the patented hooks on the Goweil Slicer and will catch the plastic every time meaning 100% success rate when cutting the bales into his feeder. Another thing they like is the design of the Goweil slicer makes it easier to use on a smaller tractor , they are running it on their small 6330 John Deere which is about 105hp and the bales are averaging 615kg this small tractor is handling it no problem. It is coming very clear now to see why any forward thinking dairy farmer is running the Goweil Slicer.
