Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

I find when hair drying birds you dry them a bit then let them have a min to fluff up and preen and go again with the hairdryer. I watch the bird making sure they dont get too cold during this but you also dont accidently burn their skin from the dryer either. I do this weekly with my eclectus who loves a shower and will scream at me if the shower isnt on when he is in the bathroom lol Love it when a wild bird gets its anger back, always a good sign it will survive.

You can use the heat on the blow dryer. I used to bathe my white dove. She would shiver a little. I used the blow dryer on her. She loved it. The heat is good to stop the shivering and they dry off quicker.

You mentioned you use it at a distance. He can't do that because he's holding onto the bird at a very close range. Plus your parrot is a tamed bird but this red tail is wild and in shock. I was thinking the same but it turned out beautiful and was less stress on the bird.

He has also had his hand severely damaged. Not an issue for you, Parrots are wonderful playful family members. You can try finding answers on the internet regarding low heat. Many blessings.

Thank you, I just mentioned that. Not just birds but all smaller animals. I sub to some urban explorer channels and asked them also if they came across a water source. Old pond, swimming pool ect, to please find even a board to stick in somewhere to help animals. One guy was very happy for the advice and said he had not thought of it.

My late grandfather used to have a similar problem with birds in his cattle troughs. According to Mom, he'd put blocks of wood to give them something to sit on. I wonder what would help for hawks.

I've had so many birds and small mammals drown in water troughs over the years that I finally got smart and started leaving 'escape routes/life line' for them. Either a stick/branch, a piece of bailing twine (tied to the outside) or a hose (not attached to the no-freeze faucet) works to allow the animal trapped in the trough to grab hold of something and eventually climb out. After I started doing that, no more drowned animals.

Woha, when Martin dried that hawk, there was no fight in it, very very bad sign. Glad that this turned out to be a perfect rescue and release. 👍👍👍 My finch girly does also shake a little after her daily full bath but she also enjoys a full five to ten minutes sunbath at the window afterwards. When she is completely wet, she looks like a lump of brown and green sticks, her flyability then is ZERO an I always put her into her cage for a few minutes, for her to pre clean before taking the obligatory sunbath. ☺️☺️☺️

Earlier today I was watching one of the Flying-fox fruit bats of Australia doing what the Aussies call “bigwings,” as they spread out their wings to look as large and intimidating as possible. Years ago I was looking around our silos for damage after a bad storm and found a hawk too younger to fly. I took him home and raised him to the point it could fly. Opened the pen door and it flew off. It came back to feed for a few days and then came back less and less . It hung around the farm a long time after we stopped feeding it. It was a Sparrow hawk.

Doesn't the hair dryer cause them to be stressed even more because he can still see everything would it not be better for his head to be covered in his eyes the way using anything that you would cover and animals heads so that he doesn't stressed out before thing looks so so bad and Heather is a good thing but it's also very noisy so I don't know much about Hawk Red Tails are particularly my favorite and they are quite beautiful they are quite Brave looking and I think the work that you do with your wife is probably a godsend to these animals because otherwise I would have drowned and a farmer took a great risk to to pick him up out of the water because because you were so beautiful I'm watching till I see the end and how we until once again I thank you I live in Upstate New York and occasionally get to see her tail hawk so thank you again and God keep both of you and please always be careful

Love watching your videos. I have red-tailed hawks that nest near me in south central Texas. This year, I have also had Mississippi kites. They are beautiful birds. Saw the most amazing sight a few weeks ago. A swirling vortex of birds a couple of hundred feet in height. Probably 40 or more birds, some kites, some buzzards. I could barely make out the top ones, so not sure what they were. The entire mass just slowly slid off over the tree tops, still in the swirling vortex pattern.

You just want to preen them ! I did parrot rescue and loved it. I had the privilege to rescue a sm young hauk from a river, dried him out w/ paper towels, then let him perch on a life vest on the john boat. He warmed and dried and flapped until he could fly about an hour. I felt the world in my heart!

Your wildlife rescue and rehabilitation works are very admirable, crucial, and needed for rescued animals( particularly birds of prey ) that have been somehow injured in their environments. And your channel serves vital purpose to inform and educate every viewers to be educated and know what to do when encountering such injured animals to know who to call to help those animals in need of human help, and what to do for them while waiting professionals to arrive. Oh my gosh, yet another awesome release. I have to say though the hawk was pretty focused on not letting you out of their sight Martin! Great job filming Susan and helping to explain along the way. The video raised so many questions like …it seems the feathers help to regulate temperature and obviously hawks are not built like a duck who can tolerate even going under water for a bit, so when drenched the feathers are not capable of keeping their body temp regulated. A hawks skin must be thin without it’s feathers. Great video. Love it. 👍🏽👍🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽❤️❤️❤️

The 1st thing I noticed was the horse and dog following and watching… poor baby looked very stressed I’m so glad the rancher saw and saved him and called you ! I don’t know which is the best part. The RTH being dried, the way he looked at you “I’ll kill you” before his release or the release… beautiful! I must say I cringed with the power lines and when he landed on the pole… I’ve read many electrocution cases lately 😞. But I’m sure he’s doing great now. Thank you for saving this baby life ! Our neighborhood in PA has seen 2 Red-Tailed Hawks make home in my backyard along a hedgerow into our woods....and man, they are some of the most majestic of the Raptors. Great video! Keep on helping those beautiful and important birds! :)

I'm glad you mentioned NO HEAT on the hair dryer, good to know. Although if she is hypothermic, why not add mild heat? That puzzles me. I bought a dog hair dryer on Amazon for $100. It has lots of air, a higher volume than hair dryer, and two heat settings or no heat. It dries dog hair much faster and would probably blow all the lice off the birds too. This might work faster than the hair dryer in these cases. Small machine. Also very useful as a leaf blower, cage cleaner, etc. It has different nozzles.
