Our Mission
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, wildlife and environmental education, and the development of the Cedar Canyon Nature Park.
Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal, but for those that cannot be released due to disabilities, the Cedar Canyon Nature Park (CCNP) can provide them with a permanent home in a natural setting while enhancing our visitors educational experience at the park.

The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
Martin Tyner
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.

I could never get bored of watching what u do or learning about these birds. This was a nervous release from where I sit but no harm done as they are strong birds I can only imagine what it takes to hold an eagle who wants to go so great job as always and many more awesome releases. Perfect example of how Martin doesn't have that hard of a time with eagles. But the moment he got a little excited and started to laugh the eagle got excited. That could have gone really badly but Martin knew exactly what went wrong corrected it and got control of the eagle again almost as quick.

But for the safety of all raptors maybe I should start fighting to get my safer capture technique into the community. If nothing else it would save thousands of hours probably hundreds of thousands of hours of untangling netting from raptor feet. There is so much else.

Martin, I have watched 100s of rescue videos here on KZbin. Mostly cats, some dogs...lol...And I've never really paid much attention to how I felt about birds of prey. Or birds period. I'm in MA. There are a lot of birds of prey here if you know where to look! As for eagles there are now quite a few Bald Eagles. One area to see them is in the Middleborough/Lakeville area.

Stuck on a fence. Ouch. . . I like wedge-tailed eagles myself, but Goldens are their cousins. And eagles in general are awesome. Oo-rah to ashes. Amen. And spotting a jackrabbit five miles away. No human sniper has eyes that good. I can see a person on a snowy day 400 meters, two blocks, away. An eagle can do that at 2,000. Astounding. Tyrannosaurus has such eyesight. I wonder how good Acrocanthosaurus's eyes are. . .

Just a little aside. I came across a Bald Eagle called Challenger named after the rocket that exploded. He was raised by humans because he was a baby that got knocked out if his nest. He was imprinted and now, fully grown. I'm sure many people have heard of him and what he can do. He has gone to many, many sporting events and gets released during the last part of our National Anthem. He is the MOST FAMOUS eagle on Earth. I cry buckets of tears Everytime he soars over a stadium, then lands on the owners glove. He is just the mist patriotic bird and I'm thrilled that there are many events he is released at and he soars around the stadium. It's really something to see and all the people rejoice as he soars around and then lands on the owners daughter's glove. For those who haven't seen Challenger, I recommend you view his many videos. Challenger, the most famous Baldie and I'm lucky to have come across this eagle. If you don't she'd a tear, then there's something wrong with you. Our National Eagle. Please find these videos. You will cry and know that this Bald eagle is the best eagle. Please find him. It's definitely worth your while. God bless CHALLENGER!!!!

Mr.Tyner you responded to my comment asking if a sinker may have caused that one eagle you rehabbed to get lead poisoning. That was greatly appreciated. But now I was wondering if you pay any attention to The Arb DCeagleCam and if you heard about Valor's passing? If you have any Idea what may of caused S/He to become so sick after they accidentally fledged from the nest. Valor didn't get injured falling, but was found very undernourished a couple days later in a local neighborhood. S/He later died in rehab. It was pretty sad valor was so close to flying I followed Mr. President, and The First Lady from the beginning of the season. Ty for the great uploads they are appreciated..

Martin doesn't really follow the cams, he's got a house and region full of critters to watch! There's an update about that eagle on the DC Eaglecam home page.

There are sites that have cameras in trees to watch the eagles make their nest to the day they fledged their young. It is a supported site that gets research money. I was very disappointed and in fact upset that one nest of eagles was raided by the researchers so they could raise the youngsters eagles since they mother had been killed by a plane at a nearby small airport. They did not give the father a chance to try to care for them, and they took all three from the nest. They said sometimes one parent can raise them, and at least one of them. They left the nest empty and the remaining parent so confused and searching for his young for days. The care they received by the researchers was not adequate preparation for their survival. One died in their refuge and they let the other two loose after raising them in a small enclosure, without any nest to return to at the end of the day, and without any hunting experience. I expected they would not survive longer than a few days. I wrote them they interfered with nature and that money from donations from people who checked in daily to watch their progress and very educational but was their motive, and that they should have left the father at least one young to raise. It however brought them large donations, and I feel their motivation to raid all three youngsters, who were doing well. They fledglings had little chance as they had no experience seeking their own food, nor in having protection from the elements and there were many eagles in the area. Chances are they ended up being a meal for a competing more experienced and secure eagles. Do you think I was judging them too harshly? I felt so bad for those poor two that were just easy prey.

It's really not something we can make a call on as we don't know the details they considered. The first year of all wild birds in the wild is really tough.
