My dad bought it for me when I was 12ish from a Sears catalog and had it delivered half-way around the world to Australia, where we were stationed at the time. It was my constant companion in the bush. It never failed me and with little or no maintenance. Glad to have at least a clone of it back again.

Merry Christmas! First gun I bought from Bill Wilson was a bull barrel Ruger 22 auto, he had cut the "snout" off the end of the barrel and put a target crown on it, very high polish blue on the top with Metaloy done in Tulsa back then on the lower, topped off with a BoMar rib and a 2lb trigger, I miss that pistol one I shouldn't have ever sold. I went to a turkey shoot out in the country once and didn't have a 22 rifle with me, I asked if I could shoot my pistol against the rifles the response was a big grin and " I guess we can let him shoot his pistol against our rifles", won the first turkey with that Ruger and they closed the shoot down didn't get a second chance lol.

There's a big desire among gun enthusiast to buy a AR15 for home defense pupposes. This wrong on so many fronts. Most altercations with an intruder are at 7 yards or less. Then you have wall penetration within the home. My solution is ether a twelve gauge with field loads, or a 20 gauge with buck shot. At short range either one will get the job done even if the spouse doesn't care for the recoil of a 12 gauge.

There are very few guns that would fall into the category of not useful. I'd never like to call guns toys, because of the fact that, they can be fun and not necessarily the most practical thing in the world but at the end of the day, if it's throwing a projectile out the barrel with sufficient force it's going to function to save your life. .The M1 is a very capable platform that actually has more power than a 357 magnum. So i'm fortunate enough to have an M1 carbine in my hand When someone attacks me or my famplay i'm going to be in a better position than someone with a .380 And in my mind actually in home defense it would be better than a Glock 9mm or 10mm

I don't own any guns that I don't shoot for fun. I have had such guns, but they now belong to other people. Even my " social distance" guns are fun to shoot. I disagree with Bill on one point. The perfect .22LR pistol for 1911 training is a 1911 chambered in .22LR. The Buckmark is an excellent pistol and is ergonomically similar to a 1911, but it isn't a 1911. Racking the slide on a Buckmark can easily leave your hand lacerated.

I retired 10 years ago and have been re-living my childhood ever since it seems. I collect Smith & Wesson revolvers. I had a subscription to several gun magazines. I would drool over all those beautiful S&W revolvers and when I got old enough, I would save and buy a S&W revolver. After school / summer jobs, birthday money (Thank you Aunt Marge, R.I.P.) it all went towards guns -- mostly S&W revolvers. First collection was lost in divorce. 2nd collection was lost to a thief. When I retired I decided to rebuild some of my lost gun collections. I have 12 K-frames and 8 N-frames. I have other guns, a Tokarev M57, a WWII 1911A1, a couple of AR-15's, etc. But when I go shooting for fun, I've usually got a "suitcase" full of S&W revolvers.

For civilians, I think shooting should be 90% for fun. Realistically, it's never going to h appen to most of us if we stay out of trouble. Know when to walk away from a fight that could escalate. Know when it's not worth trying to "be a man". Add, having ZERO experience in a life/death scenario and then ssuddenly being thrust into one....most likely won't go well. Applies to anyting in life. E.g. "training for a fist fight" in a boxing gym but never having ever stepped in a ring.....then suddenly find ourself in a street fight vs unknown numbers/their locations/unable to ID all of them among the spectators..etc. The chances of a real situation being a "one on one"..... And, chances are 99% of the time in most households (if there is a family), there will be oly one person into firearms/going to the range and "training". One gunner vs unknown number (not knowing all their locations around our home, not being able to ID all of the bad guys among spectators...etc.)....isn't likely to go well...realisticaly. Life is not a John Wick movie as many "gun nerds" sound like they beleive (the one's making KZbin videos doing gun reviews, aftermarket parts tips, listing t heir EDC items. revealing at the same time what they look like, sound like and sometimes their real names....HEH).. All the excuses for civililians who insist on "defensive training" is kind of funny. e.g. "....by the time the police get here it wll be too late" --still just one home owner VS unknown numbers/theri locations.... "...better to train than...."....No one that I know of even teaches "urban tactical gun defence" that looks remotely practical even for a "one on one (or 2)"...all the videos SI've seen...ex-military have civilians in pretty much "range shooting stances" standing square, 2-handed grips....for a "fun gun weekend getaway class"... it's income for ex-military....who usually have no actual experience in "urban combat" (unless they became SWAT or some kind of LEO"...

Do you two know how easy it is to clean up percussion (cap and ball) revolvers after shooting them? It's a different process, but not much harder. You just need to make sure to do it within 24 hours of shooting them. But the process is as simple as dunking them (after removing their grips and doing a basic field-strip take-down, to include removing nipples), in hot soapy water, then proceed as usual for a revolver while in the hot soapy water (brushes, patches, etc.), then rinse thoroughly under hot tap water, then wipe off with paper towels and dry patches, then into the oven at lowest setting for 20 minutes or so, then thoroughly spray down with Ballistol, wipe down, reassemble, and you're done. It's not as bad as you make out, and they are lots of fun to shoot.

Man if I’m shooting for fun I can’t afford to shoot anything more than 22lr 😭

Interesting...... Yes .22s are fun, and can teach all the basics without high cost, and without scaring a newbie... mind you my only current .22 pistol is a 617 Smith 10 shot... lovely gun, but quite expensive.... 'm a BP fan though, and shoot BP shotguns, a pair of 1858 Remingtons (and the matching carbine)..... I also have a ball with a 50 cal Flintlock Kentucky rifle.... All guns are fun, but a whole afternoon on a.44 mag revolver gets tiresome, not to mention expensive. Clay shooting (sporting clays... simulated field) is a lot of fun too if you don't get too serious about it. Gocks (and other striker pistols).... yeah... the Gen 4 and5s are better than the earlier ones, but Ken's description of "staple gun triggers" is about right.... I am a SA revolver and 1911 fan, so light crisp triggers are really my bag... I have a few rifles of various sorts too, that I love to shoot 'just because'.... I guess all that makes me something of a dilettente, but if it goes bang, I can operate it and usually hit things with it... :-)

Love the Gun Guys. Another great video. Here in Australia I can only dream of owning a fraction of the guns you guys have access to. I learn so much from your vast experience and greatly appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge. P.S. When will we see some more Wilson Combat Berettas over here?
