This is one of those games you'd rent for the weekend as a kid and then be immediately sad.

RIGHT!?!? Dude, few things were more disappointing and soul crushing than getting burnt from a bad rental on our little child sized hearts! Lol if you were like me, you likely had to beg to get the game in the first place.. . The chances that dad would take me back to get another one was as good as me laying down in the street and transforming into a car

No competition because of proprietary technology nobody else has the technology to capture ghost but the Ghostbusters
@nichodemus10Ай бұрын
I had this game for the apple 2. It was a bit different, but seemed similar enough. Capturing ghosts was way tougher, but driving seemed easier and the ghost vacuum was super important as the marshmellow man comes when the four ghosts reach zuul, and sucking them up on the way was how you sent them back to buy yourself more time.
@robertpatterson4357Ай бұрын
This was a strictly superior version. You could buy a new car, right? And once the Marshmallow Man showed up you had to run under him when he jumped around like a maniac.

I had this as a kid and actually liked it for its simplicity, its much like jaws where its just a grind fest, catch ghosts over and over for like a hour till you get enough money for the sound generator, ghost suit, and ghost food and hit the ZUUL building. Definitely need a turbo controller for that crap though. Sound generator slows the ghosts down, ghost suit makes it so you can fall down more times, 7 i think.

I think so many people forget that old games were super limited in space so most of the "how to play" was in the manuals. Since almost everyone is just emulating these games, they act like that information never existed. I'm not saying every game was crystal clear and there was no jank, but why pretend like you can't just look at the manual for a lot of the stuff people like to put on a big show about not knowing or understanding.

The ghost alarm shows where the houses are and basically the quicker you get to one of the flashing buildings the less of a drive it is to get there so less cars running into you and less fuel being wasted. People recommending all these mid games. Try Legacy of the Wizard. Makes Milon's Secret Castle look fair, A Boy & His Blob look straight forward. It's got all these hyper specific requirements to advance, every mechanic is a mess, the map is enormous and if you take the wrong character to the wrong part you're screwed. Then try Deadly Towers, arguably one of the largest games on the NES though you only need to go to about 5 or 10% of the map, awful combat mechanics, unfair enemy behavior on and on. I highly doubt you can finish either in even a few streams. That isn't mocking they're just games that practically demand a guide to explain the mechanics and a walkthrough to tell you where to go. After all those play Rygar as a palate cleanser. It's reasonably difficult but also pretty good and has a banger soundtrack. Honestly like all three games, when you grew up getting the occasional game from a yardsale you played the hell out of them no matter how confusing they were. I never beat Legacy of the Wizard or Deadly Towers but I do still play through Rygar every year or two.

Why didn't the Ghostbusters have competition? Because in the 1980's, your dad came home from SHOP in a rusted out Datsun, still wearing his lawn mowing uniform of knee socks, threadbare V-neck, and booty shorts (July: briefs), ranting about how they charge $50 to bust you and for that money, you could bust yourself five or six times easy.
