Great to finally see this come up. Great win! About the championship, if I were you I'd race at Montjuic, bc at the end of the day both were street circuits in Barcelona, so it would be the best choice in my opinion. The other main option? Maybe going for an unrealistic track for this type of championship, like Daytona, Indianapolis or Bathurst (if there are older versions of them available). You can also call it a championship, but I think this 1955 season deserves a proper ending, especially with you and Fangio being so close in the standings.

just 2 cents: - do not change next higher gear until you revs are not very near the max (red line). temps are all looking good, the engine works fine. i can see you change from 4 to 5 way to soon. look in the mirror what happens after you got into the 5th gear. gonzales is closing in. always. - do not take the tighter turns from inside, only if the opponent is on the outside. you could carry more speed into those turns if you go high, then tight and wide again. but you know this facts mate :) im am sure. just remembering what a good friend of my, remembers me sometimes. nice video!

Yay ! Nice racing ! I enjoy watching you so much in those 50s cars that I'll probably explore them on my own. On question though : Ahhhh, the infamous Parabolica! I too struggle a lot with this corner. But, aren't you compromising it by keeping to the right when entering ? I understand that you're defending but I wonder if letting your opponents take the dive and have them shed the excess speed could yeld better results... (Of course, this doesn't translate so well with modern F1 cars where the braking power is insane). Thanks again for this very entertaning stuff :)

The bankings aren’t abandoned. They have been repaved some years ago and they are being actively used in some motorports events like the Rally show (even though, admittedly, only the lower side of them). That before the bridge after Lesmos is not a chapel but a mausoleum 😄 Bankings are made of concrete because asphalt would slowly drip with time. So it is not a defect, but an actual architectural choice.

That was a fun one. It's slightly frustrating how the AI puts you on the back foot sometimes. And that Mercedes streamliner is a good bit heavier than any of the other cars, so it makes even less sense that it, too, could outbrake you. As for a season finale, I've seen the comments suggesting Montjuich Park. I mean, if we knew Pedralbes was coming somewhat soon, I might say you should wait, but in this case, I don't know about that. I'm not sure how these cars would go around Montjuich; I'd estimate that the 1937 GP cars could do as low as a 1 min, 50 sec lap there, and those cars tended to be faster than the 2.5-liter F1 cars, just because of the power and torque they had. So I'm not as sure how much fun that would be, not to mention how much you might struggle trying to wrestle the car around Montjuich. So, as another alternative, but also something that isn't just really "easy" be comparison, I thought of the 1959 Portuguese GP venue, Monsanto Park in Lisbon.
@kengoodwin74612 жыл бұрын
You would find you would take the right handers a lot easier if you kept to the outside then take the inside halfway through the corner, & you would carry more speed going through the corner. You keep on loosing placings on those corners. But hay you won , so well done.

AX-LE-SON! AX-LE-SON! AX-LE-SON! Fantastic race, very enjoyable to watch. I think the AI are guided by 'be fastest at all times' but IRL I think there might be more cat-and-mouse to the finish line, particularly with the advantage given by drafting. Regardless a thrilling result and it's set up a sensational finale with Ritchie just one point ahead of old man Fangio. It's amazing that GPL can provide this much entertainment 20+ years after its release. How many other games from 1998 achieved as much?

@@beenton8066 : Jake said that he was afraid of getting rear-ended by the AI if he took the normal line, since he was finding that he had to brake slightly earlier than them to make the Parabolica without going off the track. Might have been a car setup issue - not sure.

What a race! Reminds me of CART on superspeedways in the 90s. Regarding he final Grand Prix - honestly, I'd like to see Pescara or Porto (both are in GPL Track Database) :-) Montjuïc may be too difficult to drive and to pass in '55 cars. You may expect similar AI performace as at Monaco or Nurburgring. Pedralbes was way more easier. If you want to be as precise historically as possible - choose Syracuse instead - a similar track which actually hosted Grand Prix that year in October (although not counted to the World Championship of Drivers).

I'm not an expert, so this is more of a question than stating a fact. Especially the line GPLaps takes through Parabolica seems very tight. Even too tight. A lot more deceleration is needed to be able to make the turn, right? Yes, the distance traveled is also shorter, but clearly (watching what happens in this race) the higher speed more than makes up for it. I get that the AI might have some superhuman skills, but the human clearly is struggling and still doing the same thing over and over again. To cover the inside? But why so aggressively? Would the AI try to squeeze in there if he left half a cars width more room there? Same with the 1st part of Lesmo, always really tight with no room on the inside. He could try to make his car wider, so to speak.
