In this Part 3 Final episode, I get the job done! We're finally in through the heavy snow and fallen trees! I mount my Aquiline Talon Tire Chains on the rears of my Kubota LX2610 Compact Tractor and finish clearing the wet heavy snow with my Kubota LX2980 front mount snow blower. The last set of trees require the power of my STIHL MS 261 Chainsaw while the freezing rain finds it way north to me. Hope you will join me as we finish the job. Cheers!

I enjoy watching your videos and I compliment you on having the correct equipment to manage your property. I have a Kubota BX2680 that I bought used and it came with the front loader and a quick attach manual angle snow blade. I plow out 5 families near me and I enjoy the heck out of it most of the time. I do not have a cab so extreme cold can be a challenge but if I get too cold I go in my house to warm up for a while. I am in the process of converting the manual angle snow blade to hydraulic but I am not using Kubota components due to their excessive cost so I am using a dual action hydraulic dump trailer pump and it cost me 20% of what Kubota parts would cost. Keep up your great videos as I really appreciate them.

Just about the best tractor porn a guy could ask for. You looked like you were cozy inside that cab. I've had a B7800 for 16 years and as I'm closing in on 60 years old, I'm convincing myself that I need to get a cab on my tractor. Another problem I've found is those tire chains I bought with the tractor seem to have gotten much heavier now then they were back then. Even though I may complain to my wife about going out and clearing our little slice of heaven, there is still a kid in me that is smiling from ear to ear every time I get on that Kubota.

Enjoying, well kinda, the same sloppy weather here in eastern Ontario. Love being out on the ATV or tractor dealing with the snow. I’ll tell you though, get some snowshoes. Got a pair about 7 years ago, and they are a real energy saver. Guys our age, despite being active outdoors, can get surprised by the effort required to walk through a foot or more of snow. Snowshoeing is great exercise without being hard on the ole ticker. Do yourself and your family a favor and get a pair, and keep enjoying the outdoors!

We live on a private road which is not plowed by the town so I am the plow guy! I always make sure the road is opened as soon as possible because my neighbors wife has cancer and has needed to be taken by rescue several times to the hospital. So like you Gord, keeping it cleared in case of an emergency is paramount.

Yup that is me to I plow out the cul da sac I live in as permanent residences I also fix snowblowers and other small engine equipment in neighborhood and when it snow the heavy stuff I get busy with repairs (broken belts,augers so on)

Love it!! I didn't think you were being negative at all. Just showing some people what they may deal with in the forest. Personally, I would take that over living in any town or city. I live for snow and using my snow-thro around our house. Once I finish at the house I go to my farm and use my 70+ year old tractor and push snow around to clear out. I spray my Schulte blower with diesel to keep it from rusting and adds lubricant to keep if from plugging in wet snow. I also spray it during the summer. I bought my blower in 2017 and it looks brand new.

That last big bunch of trees was quite a mess. Definitely got your exercise. Our snow is gone and while the temperature is finally dropping back to normal fort his time of year, there is no major snow in the forecast. Clearing snow is something I really enjoy doing, and it gets me my seat time in the winter. Thanks for sharing. Hi GP, Thank You for sharing your adventure. I'm like you, enjoying the challenge! I have the same issue when I get up to my Northern Wisconsin cottage. The only thing that I'm not really crazy about is at the cottage i have an open station tractor, unlike the larger cab tractor I have at home in Northern Illinois. I think temps are colder in Northern Wisconsin than where you are! I have trouble with keeping my hands warm. But I still enjoy it!

Gord, what a great piece of property you have! I'm 100% like you; I would really enjoy having to dig myself back into a mile long driveway, or as you did get to the house and dig back out. It's very exhilarating and good for the body to get the exercise and fresh air like you say. We certainly don't get anything close to snow amounts here at my residence, as you do in Canada, but I still remember the 'triple winter snow storms' that hit here years ago - biggest snow in my lifetime that I've experienced and loved it! I purposely let all the storms finish and pile up the snow, so I could use my Kubota BX and blower to clear the 1/3 mile common drive. Snow was near 2' with drifts 3' or more. It was the first and only time I had to take two passes - one with blower raised, then another with it floating. Soon I hope to have my LX-2610 - outfitted just like yours; I just couldn't help myself. You've been quite an inspiration. Once I get the LX, I guess I'll have to find a property more north. I really enjoy getting out there moving that heavy snow; sure beats a shovel. One main reason I upgraded to the LX (and yes with cab) is my age and ability to handle the cold. I can't stay out like I used to years ago. Live life to the fullest (or at least as 'fullest' that one can) 😉

Just learned an expensive lesson. Don't bend the Fan/Impeller on the LX2980. List for a new one is $628.58. Hit a large rock buried in the snow. Looks like the fan bent before the shear pin broke. Bent enough that it is bound up on the housing. A neighbor is doing some bending and grinding on the old one for me so I can still use it, but I am still going to buy a new one for backup. I have the same LX2610 tractor and LX2980 that GP has. I found this channel doing research while doing the same upgrade GP did, from an open station rear PTO B20 to a front mounted blower with a cab. 20 years of blowing snow with all kinds of nasty weather was enough.

GP, I love you attitude! Adventures for sure. You missed another reason why you need to keep the road plowed. There will be more snow storms and if you do not get rid of the snow now, it will only build up making it impossible to clean up. Yes, video was enjoyable! I too keep my driveway clean from snow nd ice. My biggest concern is a fire truck or ambulance getting to my house. I keep all three entrance/exists to my house free from snow and ice in case we need ot get out of the house very quickly. Be safe!

Gord that looks like something I would enjoy too. When you're not on the clock and it takes as long as it takes it's not that bad to do. The guy I work with in the summer plows snow for a friend of mine in Sebright, east of Orillia. They got 5 feet over 3 days. The second day he was there 2 neighbours were trying to snowblow with small 2 stage blowers 600' of roadway because they were trying to get an ambulance down the road to treat one of their wives. Steve plowed 600' of road for them, getting stuck 3 times, but knew it was the right thing to do. The town plows couldn't get to these side streets. You never know when you might need 911.

I get exactly what you were saying at the end. Probably most people shoot for less work as they get older, etc. But there is something about the adventure and work, combined, etc. that makes it that much more fun and I wouldn't have it any other way. Plus, like you said, it is healthy to keep moving. I'm in Michigan, we got about 16" of snow with that blast.

Gord, I soak my padlocks in Auto antifreeze to help with the icing you are experiencing. Works great on the construction trailer we used for tool storage for 20 years. I have not tried RV antifreeze but may be better for the critters. Just soak the locks in a small jar overnight or till you leave and reinstall. Not 100 percent but works 80 percent or better

Thanks for the tips. Fortunately I don’t have as many trees that fall on my half mile driveway. I love the privacy I have and it’s worth the adventure. I have back country skis and that’s how I get around and that’s why I’m known as Bladerunner. We have 10 miles of ski trails with the adjacent neighbors.

Oh, yeah! We have a big cedar leaning hard by our drive, It's coming down, either by itself or by my hand! I did find a tarp, left by a contractor this fall under the snow. It took the best part of two days getting it out of the snowblower! I've also found chunks of scrap lumber and concrete under the snow, left in the open with my snowblower. I carry shear bolts for those events! I've snapped shear bolts in the blower as well as the PTO shaft. Broke the masterlink in the auger drive too. I carry tools and parts on the tractor.

If you need to clear heavy, wet snow, it can help to spray heavy-duty silicone on the dry metal of the augur and box and also the chute before you start.

Just a thought, here we trim all the small, tall, scraggly trees along the road or trails edges that have the tendency to bend over the road in heavy snow or ice back 10 or 15 feet, what ever it takes to stop having them block the road. Whenever we have spare time we do a little each years as time allows. Any way just a thought, you and your family keep well, later.

There you go, if that snow got any heavier you would have been in dire straits, but you got out early, and beat it in time 😁 Quick tip, no matter how tired you are after a long day/evening/night (or all 3) out, always scrape the auger housing & chute free of snow. It's those times you don't that the next day gets colder and the snowblower freezes up... ughhh.. Or the next day is hotter, and a half-clogged snowblower, which, even if you scrape the snow out, is still going to be wet.. Having a dry snowblower you can simply apply preventive measures (WD-40/Diesel) and the blower will be that much more effective 😊 Another thing, and it's related to emergency services which you were quick to touch on, kudos! I know it's nice to keep trees, your conservative style has allowed the forest to flourish and it does look lovely. But from experience, a treeline that close to the road could just as easily impair emergency services, and indeed your way in/out, in a potential crisis. Have seen and heard of avoidable tragedies because emergency services got stopped by treefall. Ultimately it's your property, but it's worth considering.

If you are anything like me and my grandfather in ten to fifteen years, you start cutting back some of the "most likely to be an issue" trees and get the next level up in capability in equipment. HI GP, Looks like you're making progress. O a lot of our mountain Top Radio sites, if we owned the property we cut the trees and brush back 20ft on each side to give the snow cat drivers and techs a little less time cutting and working on radio equipment. I saw on another KZbin Channel there is a skid steer front attachment that takes those small trees and mulches them up and makes virtually dust out of them.

Good video! I live in an area somewhat like you my driveway is 1/4 mile long and all snow removal is on me. I have a 32 HP Yahnmar with a cab and I have a 60" rear mount blower and I have lived in this location 21 years now and there have been only 2 times I was wishing for more HP and one of them was a couple months ago and it was because of wet snow, really heavy wet snow! Normally my setup will throw snow 50 to 60 feet no problem when the snow was like it was I am lucky to get 20 ft of discharge, and that was at a higher than normal RPM setting! If the snow is wet my blower will have the same problem as you were having with the snow building up inside the blower on the auger and on the sides it will get to the point where your blower is half plugged all the time. What I learned over the years is I use PAM non stick cooking spray and will spray the inside of the blower on just about everything and will also do the inside of the bucket on the loader and it all but eliminates the snow sticking and building up, its a cheap way to cure this irritation! Keep up the good work. Last week we had 66 mph winds one night and I had 5 ft drifts all over the place where I had to knock them down with the loader before I could blow them. My driveway was like that for about 40 yards but I could lift the blower high enough to clear it with 2 passes I was in the tractor for 7 hours that day. Today it was snowing and windy 30 mph all day and things are supposed to be much worse tomorrow, I see another LONG session in the tractor!

Snow blower question: you seem to blow slightly ahead and to the left or right. Why not blow perpendicular to your travel direction? Snow path then doesnt have to twist, in the chute. It could come straight off the impeller. My only snow blower experience is with a walk behind, and I only blew your way if the wind would have dumped the snow into my face, if I blew straight to the side. If I blew a bit ahead, the blown snow would pass in front of me, mostly. Just curious. I really like your videos. Very informative, and great camera work, so I can see whats happening, and your explanations are very clear. Im very glad you seem to like making them, so there will be new ones to watch and rewatch in the future. Thanks for the effort you expend to share your experiences with all of us!

Perhaps building a parking spot for the tractor near the road might be a good idea. That way if you leave the property for a length of time in the winter and get snowed in, you'll have your main piece of equipment where you need it to get your driveway cleared out.

Thanks for the video, Growing up in Minnesota I have snow shoed for years so I get them out when we have 6-8"or more. It's surprising how much they help, you sink just a few inches and they keep you from slipping as you walk. Surprised Canadians don't all have a pair ( or 3 ). Great videos Gord !! We just got another dump last night here in Mattawa area, thankfully only about 4 to 5 inches !! Thanks to my son for the 2210 Kioti with the Berco snow blower !! A couple hours we had the driveway and road open and helped the neighbour by opening his driveway as well !!. Should have seen the Twsp plow operators face when he ran out of snow in front of the house LOL

We almost bought an off the grid property with a 2km access road but that deal fell through and we ended up with a hobby farm on the grid with a 300 meter driveway. I enjoy blowing it in the winter and like you I had the same thing happen. I cleared 2 weeks ago only for it all to have melted away. Better safe than sorry i guess. Crazy weather. Cheers.

Softwood high in creosote so only good for outdoor fires. That wood will also gum up your saw chain too.

Hi Gord ..... Just wanted to let you know of a issue I had with my front mounted blower. My Kubota is a B2650 cab and a B2781B blower. It craped out on us half way up the driveway (1000 plus feet) in 2-3 feet of snow this christmas. The Front PTO shaft that hooks up to the blower has no zerk fittings to the small sproket inside the housing and well what can I say. .....It failed and blew the housing and chain drive apart. After the assistance of neighbors to clean out the driveway to get the service guy in .... he needed to order parts and disassembled the housing and returned the blower parts to the shop to repair and weld the box assembly to reinforce it. It needed a new set of bearings and small sprocket and a new shaft and a new chain. Here is where it irks me. The Kubota service guy said there is no zerk fittings to grease the shaft and it wears out. After 7 Years it was done. My tractor has only about 211 hrs on it and less than half of that is snow blowing. No good in my mind and a bad flaw on behalf of Kubota engineers......or maybe they designed it that way for profitable repairs in the future. Keep an eye on the chain tensioner bolt and bolts for the housing. We had the tractor sent to the dealer for a full service of grease and oil last fall and still had this happen. Keep them bolts tight and grease what you can. The PTO shat has a zerk but not the shaft inside the housing. Expensive repair to say the least. .... P.S. Love your adventure on the Snow Bound driveway.

Hey Gord, I have those aqualine chains and they make my L3560HSTC like a freight train. Especially with the rear tires loaded. Nothing stops it. I had a snow / rain event here too this year... Really packed up my 84" blower!

Wow, very nicely done videos, your lane to your cabin isn't long enough, LOL, I have a 1/4 mile lane that drifts badly, I enjoy clearing it too. I have an old 1750 Oliver, 2WD, chains, and a 7' New Idea blower, it does the job but it can be a challenge. Watching your videos is entertaining and educational, keep em coming. Must be the same storm that hit me. Took all morning to get to main road, had a couple dozen trees down and my plow truck could barely get through. I think we ended up with 20+ inches heavy wet snow. I like your rig.

Happy New Year Gord. I know exactly what you had to go through to clear your road in to the cabin. I have similar challenges on my driveway though it not nearly as long, only 1000 feet to do. I get trees down as well and regularly carry a chain saw while clearing. That wet snow provides additional challenges, I had to clear the shoot and auger area on mine with a crowbar as it got packed in there so densely. I love it up here as well and it's worth the extra work IMO.

Hey GP, I’m sure you watch John Ritter’s channel. He found that spray on turtle wax works great for keeping the snow from sticking on his snowblower. You’ll have to get some and let us know how it works for you. Thanks much for sharing, cheers!

We got the same storm, it was not fun! I had to remove the snow off the tarps on my brush piles to burn, quite the chore! But got them done, still getting the videos posted! But at the moment we have no snow on the ground! All gone!
