We're heading back to Guy's meadow to continue clearing out the brush. Time to pull out the BECO Stump Bucket and put it to work on the Kubota B2601 compact tractor. Hi Gord! You did a fine job with that stump! That stump bucket is a good alternative to a backhoe (but like you said - not as much fun). The key to success for either one is patience, starting away from the stump and taking small bites toward it. Nice work on the stump Gord. I agree 100 % with your decision to hold off on your wood shed build until those "winged warriors" have left. Watching the first one you pulled I must admit I thought that I would not "abuse" my tractor like that but seeing this video is starting to change my mind. For sure, on my first time I didn't do a very good job of it but still to this day, I always prefer to show you folks everything - I have been fortunate that good folks like yourself will take the time to help teach me and although sometimes it's a wee bit embarrassing, I get the benefit of some great advice and help. Learned a good lesson with this one. Let the tractor do it's work under it's own ability and stop trying to force it to do more. Big lesson for me this time. It sure works much better. You put out good videos without a lot of annoying background music and are on point. I watch yours because it showcases tractor work. I have to admit though that I cringe at some videos when you're rough on your tractor. This video changed my mind. You're much smoother with it this time. Good job. Yes, tou figured it out........let the tractor do the work ; the work that it is capable of, not forcing it to try to overdo it. I've been operating tractors since I was 16 years old.. (I'm 50) I started out on 70+ hp tractors on a dairy farm. These "small" tractors now would have been a dream for me back then. I learned the hard way to let any tool, not only tractors, do the work . Forcing it only leads to broken tools. The enjoyment of operating a tractor is best when you can do a good job and see the "pretty" results. Seat time is always what it is about, not speed. Keep the vids coming!

Hey good morning Wayne. Yes, it works great. I am getting the hang of it and also still learning on the B2601. Starting to realize I just have to allow the tractor to do the work and stop trying to force it. It felt a lot better this time - I'm pretty happy with it. Hi GP, I knew that watching your channel would lead to something. I just bought a 2020 B2601 with bucket, backhoe, and grapple with 3rd function. Already used them hard in in a week of tree site clearing and it's very muddy. Amazing little workhorse! I do like the backhoe for stumps. The grapple is the best implement ever for brush and downed wood clearing..

I just dig around the stump. Cut the roots I can find and pull it out with my BX 2380 backing up. I just have the front loader. Dig the old fashioned way. Stumps are hard when fresh. I have a whole fence-line of Bradford pear tree stumps to pull. I can only access 180 degrees because of neighbor’s fence. Slow going.

Good job GP. I spent about 3 hours with my backhoe on a big stump. I've got a hole about 10' in diameter and got all but one major root ball cut but the one that is left is actually 3 roots about 4-6" in diameter and running parallel to each other. It's proving to be a challenge but you are right, slow and steady little bits of progress at a time. have a great week, Cheers

GP, on your driveway unless the ‘ditch’ needs to be cleaned out, made deeper, or other work on it, you should be able to do most of your maintenance with the land plane. I do not remember if yours has scarifiers or not, but if it does you should be able to dig out ruts as well. No problems at all maintaining the ground and moving gravel without scarifiers.

Good evening Coy. Thanks for the good info. I am not sure that is true here, though. I know I still have much to learn, but most of my driveway is no more than a path cut through the forest. The Landplane works awesome on the parts I have laid gravel on, but many of the other areas don't seem to favour the landplane very well - the box blade seems to work much better on them. I joke to friends that I have about one inch of top-soil before hitting bed rock. Not quite but pretty close. Good morning L! Yes, now that I am getting a little experience on it it is becoming easier to use. It's those big boulders hiding underneath that tend to get you, but the end of this bucket is hardened and pointed, so I find I can tease in and around the rocks to get them out of the way. I watch your videos with envy. My not even a full year old BX23S, has developed a bad case of differential/lock problems. Going straight is OK but as soon as I do a tight turn, the noise and clunks coming from under me is outrageous, all caused by the diff turning at different ratio. Inside wheel barely turning whereas the outside, has to travel a bit faster. That's when the clunk/bang comes. And it makes my heart stop each time. Waiting for the warranty to do its thing. Enjoy your tractor and thanks for keeping the videos coming. I like anything Kubota! LOL

@@GPOutdoors Found out that my Diff lock was engaged all the time without me knowing!!! They picked it up this morning and as I was driving it on their flatbed, the driver asked me why I put the diff lock on. I said I didn't touch it. He said it is on all the time. No wonder I was ripping ground/turf like crazy each time I turned. ☺ I did a search this morning and it seems to be the Achilles heel of the Kubota tractors. When I will get it back, I will NOT use that thing EVER again. I can't afford to loose my toy weeks on end. Have a great weekend!

@@GPOutdoors I hope so too. Forgot to mention it seems to be a recurrent thing for any of the Kubota line with such a system. A lot of BX24's and 25's, BX23S'es, and possibly yours. I was so spellbound I couldn't believe it. I kid you not. This is a Nay-Nay pedal to paraphrase the great late John Pinette. Some even went to the extent of cutting the pedal off or disconnecting it. Serious shit my friend. Have a look at it and let me know if yours is in there. you might be pleasantly or not, surprised of the results. I won't trash Kubota's for not having improved their design after all these years (80's from my earliest research I found.) Doesn't matter what you buy, mechanics, is just that, mechanics. Things break. How many times dictates if it is a lemon or not. This is the 3rd problem that it has. First is the "glad hands" connector for the FEL, they loose oil like crazy, the diff lock and all around the pump in the back is wet. Should be dry. If it's wet, it's leaking . Period.

As one who is clearing a 1 acre area. That bucket is interesting. Curious how well it would work on a live stump of similar size. I have a Hoe arm for my machine. What a life saver, easily paid for the cost of the Hoe arm . In the labour we have saved .

I loved the B2601 - it was a real workhorse for me but age is kind of kicking in now, so I traded it in for an Kubota LX2610 with a cab - heat for the winters. :)) The stump bucket was a BECO and it worked very well. it took me a few times to get the feel of using it but was very effective - you just need to take your time and let it work. I had it on loan to try out from Farmer Equipment Sales here in Canada ( website of the same name). Hope that helps. Welcome!

GP Outdoors I was figuring it was rated for much higher hp than your 2601. There should be no worry at all about springing it out of shape then. The concern with this as well as the grapple and bucket is the potential of springing one of those accessories OR the loader arms themselves. My 2400 has slightly sprung arms and the 3030 has a badly sprung bucket, both before they came to live here. And oddly, by the same previous owner... my old buddy that passed away a year or so ago.

Hello GP! Enjoying another great video, the scenery is beautiful up there! I do have a question, do you have liquid ballast in your tractor tires? If not, I recommend beet juice. It’s about 11lbs per gal (not sure per liter), is non corrosive and safe for people and all critters. I believe it’s freeze point is quite low as well. Anyway, thanks for all your effort in producing these videos! 👍

I guess if you don't have a backhoe on a BX, you might own a bigger tractor with a stump bucket to dig out rotted stumps. Two things that would help this lame setup, more rear ballast and use differential lock.

One observation: If you draw a circle using the stump as the center, and start digging towards the center, instead of criss-crossing every which way, the digger might work more efficiently.
