@@BiffsEquipment I pulled the trigger on the bx2680, now I just need that quick hitch with the weight bracket. Which one did you end up with? and does it have the category 1 bottom? Or are you using bushings for your box scraper and back blade.

@@mikemaloney3557 I would highly suggest adding rear ballast it’s usually the first thing people do as you’ll be able to work the tractor much harder and be much more efficient with it when your able to keep it planted and not always lifting the rear end up. I bought my quick hitch off eBay, I forgot the exact brand but it was red, I think the brand is “farm ex” but not sure, last time I looked they were sold out cuz of the virus. Mine is a true cat 1 quick hitch so I do not have to use the bushings.. you can also look on Amazon as well.. just read the descriptions carefully and make sure it’s a true cat 1.. some are only cat 1 where it connects to your tractor but then switch to cat 2 at the end of the quick hitch so you gotta use those annoying bushings. I paid around $159 shipped for mine it was a great deal. If you can’t find a true cat 1 quick hitch then check out land pride.. I know they make a model for sub compacts that’s also a true cat 1 if you do some research on Google I’m sure you’ll find the part numbers. I recommend getting your rear tires filled and adding roughly 200lbs or 4x50lb suitcase weights to the rear for optimal stability. You can buy the weights from heavy-hitch.com or you can buy them from homedepot.com and have them shipped free to a store near you for local pickup which saves you a ton on shipping costs. The ones home Depot sells are John Deere weights but they are the exact same thing.. I got mine from heavy-hitch.com. You’ll also need a weight bracket to put on your quick hitch.. I built my own but you can also get that from heavy-hitch.com Let me know if you have and issues finding anything. 👍🏻

Glad to see this video...my GWT stump bucket ships next week...I have a million trees to dig up with it...just take a cutting wheel to the edge of that bucket...add your own teeth! Also, leave about 3' of trunk when you cut a tree down...leaves you more leverage to push up high and help pop the stump.

That’s great David! I was highly concidering building one very similar to his but didn’t have the time for it. He has a great looking stump bucket and I bet it works just as well! I actually thought about cutting teeth in the sides with my plasma but shh don’t tell artillian haha. As for cutting the stumps low I cut them well before I had the stump bucket so that’s why I wanted them low at the time cuz it was either a stump bucket or a stump grinder so I went low just incase lol. I feel it’s a VERY worth wild investment that (if you have many stumps), you’ll get years of service out of it.. iv always got stubborn 4-8” stumps on my property, most my trees infact are in that size range so for me it was a no brainer. I agree i radiator/grill guard is a very good idea specially when your doing the type of work that I’m doing.. so far I have been very lucky not to smash my grill but I’m sure eventually I’ll get caught. I don’t like the grill guard only because the 70 series and older guards have to be removed with 4 bolts every time you want to pop your hood bonnet off.. it’s quite a pain in the butt when it comes to servicing them.. I’v been meaning to try to install a bx80 series grill guard tho as I believe it would fit.. this grill guard tips down and should allow me to still pull my hood bonnet off with out removing the 4 bolts to take the entire grill guard off. Very impressive attachment. I have a backhoe on my bx that I have used to pull out hundreds of stumps of various sizes from 1 inch to 40 inches in diameter. I see some advantages to removing stumps using the stump bucket over the backhoe and vice-versa. In the area that you were working the stump bucket is definitely much quicker to use than a backhoe. After watching your video I have decided to get a stump bucket to use in some areas that I just cleared. In combination with the backhoe I will get more done in a shorter period of time.

Glad to hear Paul, I think your really gonna like it, I agree for pulling larger stumps I think the backhoe may be the best rout but for small stumps like these I’m betting you could dig stumps out just as fast if not faster with the stump bucket. Just found your channel, and the work that machine is able to do is awesome. I have a 2001 BX and it amazes me how handy it is around the property. I have a lot of pictures over on TBN under the username "milkman". Kubota sure has updated the loader and attachments for the newer BXs. I'll be looking at your other vids to see what you did with the exhaust, I like that, I did mine similar along with updating the TPH with a turnbuckle delete.

The Kubota BX is a very underrated machine.. one of the biggest reasons I started this channel to begin with was to show what’s possible with such a small tractor.. with the right operator and the right attachments there really is no limit on what can be done with one. As for the exhaust stack if you go on my channel and click on the “playlists” tab, you’ll see I have created a bunch of different playlists that are categorized and in there you’ll see a playlist for my exhaust stack,.. Hey John, those forks are made by artillian and the green forks were made by titan for the 1023E.. the artillian forks I picked up with my grapple as it all uses the same frame so you can have one frame to run all their attachments including their grapple. Have you thought about adding bolt-on saw teeth to the sides of the bucket? I think it would help to cut/saw the roots faster and decrease your time per stump and allow you to do larger stumps.

Hey Fritz that’s a great question! Bolt on teeth for the sides would be a great idea, I didn’t want to modify the bucket in any major way by cutting my own teeth with my plasma cutter which was my first thought only cuz I wouldn’t want to ruin the integrity of the bucket itself but drilling holes and building my own bolt on teeth could be a great option so I’m glad you mentioned that. Next time I have some free time maybe I’ll start coming up with a plan to do so. I agree it would make an enormous difference with ripping through roots and I’m really surprised artillian didn’t think of thus when they built the bucket to begin with as it woulda been very easy for them to add during Design and manufacturing

Right? Haha that’s was exactly my thoughts too.. I was blown away by just how fast I was able to rip those stumps out.. they were pretty common size stumps too.. typically not large enough to pay someone to grind but big enough to be in the way. I feel this is the perfect tool for these sized stumps and prolly faster than a bx backhoe as well. As for the dirt on the stumps I planned to use the grapple to shake the dirt off them over the holes before burning them.. Thanks for watching buddy

You cut the tree down that's your leverage is much easier when tree attached. Grapple scrape ground around base of tree push over. then grapple it out

Thanks Eric, I actually cut these trees down long before I had the stump bucket so that’s why I cut them so short. From now on if it’s a stump I plan to remove I’m gonna cut them up higher so I have more leverage. Iv pushed lots of trees over with my bx before but these ones were actually pretty tall, but next time I find the right size tree now that I do have the stump bucket I’ll def do a push over and dig type removal. Absolutely, this bucket is primarily built as a trenching bucket, I would say that is it’s main use; it’s second use is a stump bucket tho it wasn’t solely designed for stumps only. I will make a video some time this summer to show how well it works for trenching .. your only con would be the depth as you would only be able to dig as deep as the bucket itself, which is prolly like 18-20”. Yes I did, I’v got both my rear tired filled with beet juice and have 8 45lb weights on the weight bracket, my weight bracket weighs prolly 35lbs and my heavy hitch weighs prolly 50lbs so that’s another 80lbs give or take.. the tractor says very planted, I also have 2” wheel spacers in the rear.. I use to get by ok with just 4 suitcase weights untill I increased my hydraulic pressure one last time all the way to 2,400psi and after that I needed 4 more suitcase weights. Hope this helps 👍🏻

Yah for sure, I own both 16” buckets as well as the 24” bucket which I’v yet to make a video on.. waiting for the lawn to dry. I actually helped Artillian with the testing of their side bucket teeth.. check out the video link i give you in this comment and you’ll be able to see me use their new 16” bucket and explain about the add-on teeth. Thanks man, My shed is roughly 20x18 I wanna say.. Give or take a few inches.. Its just about right for the BX and allows me to work in there pretty nicely though it is a bit tight in there at times but that's because i have so many tools and work benches stuffed in there.. As a person looking to jump into the Small tractor pool what makes you pick the Kubota over the Deere? I'm stuck on both for different reasons.

Great question man, To be honest I chose Kubota because at the time I got it used and it was the best deal I could find on my limited budget .. Tho like you I was looking for both the John Deere and Kubota. Kubota's have a better warnetee and i belive its transferable from owner to owner which is a huge plus, Kubota also makes all their own engines, transmissions and everything else so they make certain that the parts they are using are a perfect fit for the tractor both in a sense of power and weight to great fitment and design.. A Kubota is much easier to work on too in my opinion and parts are cheaper.. they don't gouge you like JD does when you need to replace parts.. and because they are simple to work on most guys can fix the common issues themselves with out much hassle. John Deere also makes a very good/rugged machine.. tho I feel its not as well designed with the fit and finish as the Kubota is... John Deere uses a Yanmar diesel which is not their engine.. or their trans as far as I know but the yanmar diesels are some of the best engines made ..right up their with Kubota diesels only they lack a bit in raw torque per displacement. This being said john deere and the one series has been around for a long time now and its proven to be just as tough and just as reliable as the Kubota BX is.. So when choosing I would base your decision off the things i said.. along with actually going to a dealer and sitting on each machine.. driving it.. and getting the feel for it to see which machine fits YOU best as the operator.. You cant go wrong with either machine so I suggest going with whichever one makes you more comfortable in the seat. Hope this helps!

Great video. I am about to order some goodies from Artillian myself. I noticed at 22:52 it looks like the right key that locks the stump bucket on jumped out of place. Is this what happened? Maybe a root caught the cable just the right way to yank it loose? I've never seen one come loose like that. And I've never heard any one complain that it is an issue. Mostly glowing reviews about how secure the whole system is. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Hey thanks for the comment, your correct I did notice the one pin fell out after I drove the tractor back to the house after making this video.. I also caught that in editing and assumed a root may have grabbed the cable. I too have never had this happen to me but will keep an eye on it more to see if it’s the system or if it was just bad luck.. I’m assuming it was a one and a million type of thing as I havnt heard of anyone complain about these keys either but will surely let you know if I do!

Hey Dave, great question. I’v seen it done before tho it doesn’t work nearly as well. If you used pallet forks to pull roots/stumps you’d want a specialized “short” or “mini” set of forks no longer than I’d say 20” to really be able to get leverage on stumps and roots.. forks would work better for pulling roots than stumps, I’m thinking trying to pull stumps with forks would only end up stressing out your machine and working it twice as hard. If I were to choose again i would most certainly buy another BX. The BX is proven to be extremely tough, durable, and reliable.. easy as heck to work on compared to something like a John Deere 1 series and no matter how hard I beat this machine I seriously can not break it. The messey is also a good machine but it fails in comparison to the Kubota BX IMO.. the fit and finish on a Kubota bx is gonna be much better as well compared to a messey. Also kubota builds their own engines and transmissions specifically for their tractors to have a perfect performance with the frame. Messey, John Deere, and other brands like kioti do not. If your gonna be saving a ton of money going with a messey then it will won’t be a bad machine though.. it really comes down to cost and dealer support, but if the cost differnce isn’t that great , and the dealer support is about the same in your local area, then I’d go Kubota all day long.. they also have a better warentee and parts support

The fork frame is made by Artillian. The bucket won’t line up on a standard fork frame unless you got super lucky.. you’d prolly have to modify your current fork frame to make it work in ways it prolly wouldn’t even be worth it. Hope this helps!

Yah they do, it’s not bad once you finally locate the tap root but it’s finding it in the first place that can take awhile haha, once I found them and broke it the stumps usually came right out, I was very impressed with this little stump bucket, thanks for watching

Hey thanks for watching, I’m sorry I’m just seeing your comment. If I was digging out stumps of 7” or under I would prolly opt for the stump bucket as it is much faster IMO than a backhoe.. many less steps involved and rotating around the stump as you dig is also much quicker.. it works just as well as a backhoe in most situations but when it comes to larger stumps it can be slow going so with stumps greater than 8” I would still suggest or opt for a backhoe instead if I owned one. @@BiffsEquipment Makes perfect sense. I have experienced removing larger tree stumps and it does take time to move around the stump when using the backhoe. Plus the backhoe is not real strong to bust through the roots so you have to get further away from the trunk where the roots get smaller. Thanks, enjoy your videos

Hey Nick, I was actually in low gear, if you watch me on the tractor after I start digging on that first stump after about a minute or two you’ll see me stop and switch the tractor into low gear, once I did that I left it in low gear for the remainder of the video. My low speed is a bit faster now since I did the pedal mod as it allows for more travel of the pedal. Thanks for watching!

Hey thanks for watching, there see plenty of guys who make a living with a Kubota BX.. but you have to have year round work and the clientele for it. All depends on how much money you need to make per month and if you have enough jobs in your area to make it happen. For me I have a full time Job but I do this type of work as well for extra income.. That’s almost the way you gotta do it and then once you start making enough from consistent side work then you can consider leaving your regular job to do this full time.. Insurence and benis would be the hardest to pay for but it’s certainly possible and there are many guys who do it. Thanks for watching!

Hard to tell if your joking or serious, the stump bucket for the money is well worth it.. it’s under $300 I’m pretty sure which is about the price of renting a mini excavator for a day and you will alway have it.. also using this stump bucket on a larger tractor say a compact or even a utility tractor would have these stumps out in seconds.. these stump buckets are faster than excavators in some cases and certainly faster than backhoes in alot of cases.. you gotta remember this is a very ever small sub compact tractor so the fact that it was able to dig out 4-8” round stumps in that amount of time is huge.. specially if you already own the tractor as the attachment is so cheap.

Tim from Canada I have said this before and I won’t bring it up again.. who is your stump bucket? You need to increase the nose on that to 6 feet.. and it should be three sided… with the longer knows you will get better.. ploughing action in your soil right now. The nose on the stump bucket is too short for what you were doing. You were in the stages of production and getting things figured out with your stone bucket. You should have a realized that it was too short if The knows was longer, you would get a better ploughing action in the dirt

Stump bucket is made by Artillian.. so is my grapple. And again I’ll say that too long if a bucket will take away all of your leverage. I don’t know if you own a sub compact tractor or have used tractors this small before.. but you can not have super long attachments on the front of the loaders.. it is not a skid loader or a larger tractor which can easily handle the added legth.. if you add even another 1’ to this stump bucket you will GREATLY reduce your digging and prying power.. it would reduce your leverage in half and you’d be much less productive. Sure if you were digging in sand it would be fine.. but digging out thick roots and stumps means you’ll need every ounce of leverage the machine can muster because of its size.
