Why are they 2 allele and not 4 also why does a dyhybrid cross contain 4 alleles?

The DI in dihybrid means two. Which means two traits are looked at. Example length of a plant and its colour. There are thus two traits and not just one for example whether some are tall or short but in this case it can be tall and green or tall and yellow or it can be short and green or short and yellow. There are 2 alleles per trait. Length- allele for being tall or allele for being short Colour- allele for being yellow or allele for being green. In each trait there will be a dominant allele. Examples: Length: Tall (T) is dominant over short (t) Colour: Yellow (Y) is dominant over green (y) But the two traits cannot influence the others dominance. Meaning, because the plant is Tall it won't stop the plant from being green (TTyy) only the colour alleles have an influence on each other and the same goes for the length. Only they can dominate each other. Hope this made it a little clearer for you.

So a trait is represented by 2 alleles, oh🤔, that makes more sense. Thank you so much for helping me understand.☄
