Make sure to watch clannad, then straight away watch after story, do not delay it. Also prepare some form of anti depressant, pills or puppy pictures, it doesn't matter. You will need both and more after you finish after story. After you're done, give it 1-2 weeks and you should feel sane again, just make sure you do not listen to the Dango song in the meantime or you will weep like a little girl. Good Luck!

+Cookiesaurus the reason people say they envy someone who hasn't watched a particular show, is because once a person finishes, re-watching it won't hit you nearly as hard as your first time viewing it so someone who hasn't watched clannad can experience these emotions while people who already watched it can't do that anymore at least that's why i think they do

- MAJOR SPOILERS - warned you I've recently come to realize that I think it wasn't even the death of Nagisa that made me cry the most. It was Tomoya. Everytime he thought back to Nagisa after her death, it brought him to tears with a look on his face of ultimate sadness. That kinda broke me, thinking "how can one take this much?" It brought me to tears as well, because I know I would also be feeling like that. It's like you're partly in his shoes, you know? And later also losing his daughter... How unlucky can one be? Anyways, sorry, just felt the need to say this

@ThaVillageGamers
@ThaVillageGamers 9 жыл бұрын
commentator098 well, yeah, you would pass the depression, but its actually worth it. The depression will probably last for a period from a day, to maybe a week or 2. (for me it was about a week) But that is all, worth it. All. If you didn't know yet, Clannad is one of the best romance/drama anime out there, if not the best. It is also leaves a good message behind regarding family and stuff. (since that is the major topic for all arcs in the anime) Anyway, I do highly recommend you to watch Clannad and Clannad After Story. There are only very few people who didnt like it. (for example the youtuber MistyChronexia) In addition I recommend you to watch the review of Clannad from TheBlackCriticGuy. He also reviews it pretty good, and if I were you, I would really think twice about passing on it. So yeah.... only if you REALLY dont want to see it :P PS: tip, dont read major spoilers from anime you havent seen yet

Personally I don't think it's amazing, it's pretty good so far but not great. If you want an ABSOLUTELY FUCKING SPECTACULAR!!!! Anime/manga series get into Welcome To The NHK... But that probably speaks to me and stuck with me for years a lot because I relate to the main characters and plot so much.

@RipleySawzen
@RipleySawzen 8 жыл бұрын
They established miracles could happen, like Nagisa coming back to life as a child minutes after she died. But shit like that has happened in our world before. None of the miracles in Clannad were too far off from something that can happen in reality till the final magical asspull. It was this lack of establishing such a thing was possible that leads one to confusion and shock at episode 22. They could have established this at two points in time: Before Nagisa dies, or afterwards. If they do it before, we never really know for sue she's gone for good. We have this tension/hope to cling onto. If they do it after she dies, we still experience the sadness (I prefer this way), then we're suddenly filled with hope at the possibility she might be brought back. This hope needs time to sink it, so for several episodes we need to know it's possible. My beef isn't so much with what happened or how it happened, but how they delivered it to us.

Reading this comment section really confuses me at the number of people who hated Clannad, seemingly just because it doesn't give you all the answers right out. Like, do they not get the whole alternative universe plot point that the last episodes literally explained through dialogue? Do they not understand that Clannad is a character-driven story, not a plot-driven one? Have they just never experienced the loss of a loved one and can't emphasize with the theme of loss at all? Do they not get that the point of a good story is its themes and messages (in Clannad's case things like family, grief, choice, etc.) and not just simple plot points? Personally, I think people just didn't pay enough attention to the series and/or don't have the ability to feel connected to the characters. It's not an easy show to watch, but is one that makes you reevaluate yourself and your world. If art doesn't exist for a better sense of self-reflection and understanding, then what's the point of it?

Jun Maeda is involved in at least 75% of Clannad's work. He composed most of the OSTs, ending theme of season 1, opening theme of After Story, as well as being the scriptwriter. Both the story and the music is done by 1 person. He also took psychology as his major in college so he knows EXACTLY what he wants his audience to feel.

This in my mind, is the most beautiful anime series out there and the ultimate "slice of life" anime. The reason for that is, that the main story for me - especially in After Story - wasn't necessarily the romance, but ordinary LIFE itself, of which - if you're lucky - romance/love is a big part. Also I see it more as Tomoya's coming of age story, how he grows from a disillusioned deliquent to a responsible adult with his heart in the right place. And he does so through love, friendship and the big theme of the show: Family! That is also the reason why for me the relationship with Nagisa is far above any of the other relationships possible in Clannad. With all the other girls, Tomoya solves their problems and the girls admire him for doing so. With Nagisa though, the relationship is far more give and take, since she helps Tomoya just as much if not more with his own personal and emotional problems, as he helps her with the drama club. And it is through her and her incredibly welcoming and lovable parents that changes his whole outlook on family values and life in general and helps him become a better person. Never have I shed more manly tears out of sadness like during this show except for my breakdown of sadness during a particular Episode of the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist. And I can't even remember ANY other anime or even work of fiction in general, that made me cry tears of happiness. And similar to what you said Arkada, once you watched Clannad from beginning to end, it will never leave you again, and you'll want to share it with anyone you know because the thought of them NOT knowing what you went through by watching this show is almost unbearable. ^^

Now this is certainly my favourite anime of all time, it actually made me go out and pre-order the DVDs from my local retailer ... and it was pretty expensive over here in Australia. In fact I also played the VN multiple times ... and Tomoya is still my current favourite protagonist of all time, especially since I role-played him on a RP forum ever since 2010. Finishing Clannad left me with a deep emotional sensation I have never felt before and have yet to feel again. I dare say the show caressed my very soul and if you think I sound ridiculous, you haven't experienced the show. Clannad is the type of anime you compare other anime of the same genre to - it's pretty high up on the totem pole as far as romances/dramas go. Despite this, I cannot recommend this show to everyone, because after finishing Clannad it will open up a part of your inner being you never thought existed which will soon turn into a gaping hole because there is nothing quite like Clannad to fill it.

Ok i dont understand... I heard about the saddest animes being ange beats, clannad and anohana.... I just watched angel beats and clannad and i didnt cry at all. I was sad when the sad moments ocured, mid-end clannad after story but i was laughing my ass off when i saw angel beats ending. Now i want to know if anohana is really a sad anime or is it just overhyped like those two ?

If someone asks me what my absolute favorite anime is, i'll pretend to have a conflict and say its a hard choice. But lets be honest. Clannad is my favorite. It's the only anime i've watched that actually changed my life. I identified with Tomoya so much. My real parents abandoned me when I was an infant, and the family I grew up with had no qualms about stating that fact whenever they were losing an argument. So I had no one to love or trust growing up.

The reason the dub to this show was so perfect for me was because it let you sit back and reflect on the emotions and thoughts of the show, without fear of missing the sub titles (especially when the tears made them hard to see). Once you look past the visual of the characters and focus on their personalities, the voices are downright spot on. Tomoya and Yohei are just so perfectly fit and Nagisa and Fuko are amazing. As for everyone else, I really feel their voices worked great. Of course I do tend to go to dub as I love to be able to enjoy what I'm watching and be able to empathize with voices that make sense to me and that I can get way more emotion out of since I know what it sounds like. Since these are hit so well with great accuracy on most lip movements, I would not at all say the dub was a downfall for this series. I seriously recommend you try it out.

Something to keep note of, was that this was an adaptation of a sim game, so the story was modified from having paths to connect with ALL the girls, to just one. Also, Fuko never died. If you'd payed attention, you'd know that the real Fuko was in a coma in the hospital, and the Fuko that was running around was more like her projected spirit. Her want to help ease her sister's suffering, because she was putting her own life on pause to wait for Fuko to recover. The reason why Tomoyo never fell in love with Sunohara is pretty cut and dried, Sunohara pissed her off one too many times early show...go fig right? As for why they all fell in love with Tomoya, he basically gave them something they all needed, when they needed it most. The reason why Nagisa and Tomoya weren't shown developing the regular cliche'd anime romance, is because they both weren't those cliche'd characters. They were both damaged people that had hard times reaching out to, and trusting others. Just by being around one another, and supporting one another, they developed feelings for one another, and started fixing and healing those wounds they held inside. That's actually more or less, why all the girls went for Tomoya at least a little bit, he couldn't just leave them be if they needed help. Did it mean he wanted to get into their pants? No, he just generally wanted to help, so that's why that didn't pan out...the whole, why Nagisa thing. Because, while Tomoya helped all the girls a ton, Nagisa's just about the only one to REALLY help Tomoya. She was there for him when he needed him the most, and wouldn't let him give up. Also, as to the whole, pregnancy thing, this isn't a hentai, so they aren't gonna show you the scenes where they fucked, it's just not gonna happen, but Nagisa does directly tell her father that she and Tomoya did have sex after they got married...to hilarious affect. ;p

I can understand why some people can criticize the plot, especially if they haven't play the VN. The thing that sets Clannad apart from other anime, imo, is the emotional pull it puts on you and how you can truly feel the pain of the characters

***** *********SPOILER ALERT*********** I can definitely see where you are coming from, as I just finished watching the entire thing myself. You really have to keep in mind that it is an adaptation of a visual novel, and that the final few episodes where it showed nagisa and their daughter dying was supposed to show the 'ending' of the visual novel if you didn't do the work of helping everyone out with their problems. In other words doing the sidequests, and once those are done you get the final episode of the show which adapts the 'true/perfect ending' which negates the deaths of Nagisa and Ushio from before. And it did feel rather disingenuous to me that it had to be done in such a way, as I did kind of feel like it would have been better just to skip those episodes where Nagisa and Ushio died. The other thing is that although the final episode has a lot of closure and good feels, we never got to see if Tomoya reconciled with his dad the way he did in the scenario where Nagisa died, so it did kind of leave unanswered questions on that front. As for the other characters, I think they never quite got around to trying to decide whether they wanted Sunohara to stick to being the comic relief like he was in the first season, or to be a more serious character like in the episodes that centered on him in After Story. It was really just very jarring and strange to watch the character try to be both, and seems like they should have left him being one or the other. As for your Tomoyo x Sunohara pairing... I have no idea where you got that from, though I do feel like they missed out with Sunohara's potential to be more than what they left him to be and did feel kind of like a let down that we never see him really develop his character, especially considering he was Tomoya's first friend in high school. Fuko was just a weird occurrence to me, as was that weird story about the boy who turned into a cat, or always was a cat, or the whole Empty World alternate Ushio and Junk Robot Tomoya weirdness that Nagisa and Tomoya could sometimes see in dreams. Ideally I think I would have liked the anime more if it completely ignored that whole Empty World thing, and skipped the needless tragedy episodes towards the end of After Story, as by the final episode, they really did feel needless! Yes they got an emotion out of me, but it felt like a lie when the final episode came around and basically said "So you know all that crap that happened with Nagisa and Ushio those last few episodes? Bet you wish that didn't happen right? WISH GRANTED!" since that is exactly what happened. If it did have to be included I think they should have done so in the same format that they did those Other World stories where Tomoya ended up with someone else, just to see the 'what-if' scenarios, that I think would have made more sense to do.
@Desregaurd
@Desregaurd 11 жыл бұрын
***** I can understand that sentiment, as it is what made a favorite anime of mine called Stein's;Gate falter a bit due to the fact that it was adapted from a visual novel with multiple potential romantic choices. Moving every character that isn't the main 'true' choice for romance to a side role when adapting the VN to anime form is one of the ways it should have been done. The alternative, I think would be dedicating one or maybe two OVA episodes to cover the possibilities of the other options without making it be canon to the main, like what is done with the Other World episodes in Clannad, so that everyone gets their fill of it.

Just the ending could have been far better and i just judge animes based on their endings

DarkAoiishi I don't think it was Shima. At the end the cat said: "I have a new master now." The cat also said: "That's right. I'm not the real Katsuki Shima". That's why I think that Shima died and the cat was somehow made intelligent ( by a wish?) I also found this: "Katsuki only appears during Misae's arc, which explains the events which happened to her some years prior to the beginning of the Clannad storyline. He was Misae's boyfriend for a while. It is revealed that Katsuki is a boy who Misae met in the past while he was in a wheelchair in the hospital. Her kind words encouraged him to recover. Years later, he searches for her with the hopes of paying her back. We discover that he is not the real Katsuki Shima, because the real Katsuki died, but not having been able to thank Misae and grant her wish, he entrusted this mission to his cat, who took a human form. During the main Clannad series, we can see the cat often accompanying Misae around."

I just finished everything by 3 in the morning today, stayed up for about an hour thinking about it and comparing it with my life and possible future as well as dream future and slept all morning before waking up with a half satisfied and half melancholy mood ALL DAY today. But I'm really happy I got to this anime, and even more happy with the way it ended. After Story really tugged at my heartstrings and I became as hallow as Tomoya during "specific" moments. But because of this I know one day I want to be a husband and a father. I just want to meet THE girl and of course have the most wonderful child in the world, whether a son or a daughter. So yeah, Clannad and After Story deserve a Certified Frosty, because it is now one of my Top 10 favorite anime.

I've NEVER cried harder than when I watched Clannad. This anime reduced me - a 20 year old woman - to uncontrollable, audible, ugly sobbing. Afterwards I just felt this insane emotional exhaustion, til that delicious catharsis of the last episode. I still cant listen to the soundtrack without tearing up tbh. This anime is just phenomenal.

You know, I was first recommended this show by someone a few years ago. When I finally got around to it, I DROPPED it after episode 1. It just didn't seem to be compelling, or even all that interesting, to me. A few months back, I finally got my act together and watched the whole thing in two days. I could not understand my past stupidity after finishing it, and felt enlightened to such a point to be angry with myself, but also sad. Clannad was, the best thing I have ever watched (Somewhat arguable). I am now sad that I watched it. I have nothing such as Clannad to look forward to, and would not get the same effect out of watching it a second time. I only have the memory of my repeated crying, alone, while forcing myself to go on with it. On a happier note, Fuko-chan is best character, and Fuko wouldn't have it any other way.

If you want another God tier anime, check out RWBY and Erased. They are amazing. And I mean AMAZING. They are not as good as Clannad, which is true God tier, and they are more liked Demi-god tier, but they are still really good.

I wish this was a longer review! I would really like it if you were to upload another video giving your personal thoughts on the ending. Nothing professional, all I want is just a rant. SPOILERS AND ALL! I know you really like this show, so I wanna hear the passion and excitement in another video! I know you couldn't in this vid, c'uz you were to technically leave your personal feelings aside and critique it. I feel like there was something more to say about this anime in this review. Great review anyway, and keep up the great work! ;D Btw, was there a reason to the different outfit changes? Or was it just a accident?

Finished Clannad and Clannad After Story last night and... damn, those feels. I admit to getting a bit misty-eyed when Nagisa... well... yeah, and when Tomoya's little daughter calls him 'daddy' for the first time. Aside from the barely acceptable english dub this gets a 10/10, would definetly recommend and watch again.

Oswaldo Martinez It was actually the first anime I watched. I can't remember how or why I started watching it, I don't think I even knew back then. At the start I didn't think it was anything special, but something about made me keep watching the next episode. Before I knew it I was sucked into this amazing world, starting a journey i'd never forget.

OMG, I watched clannad after sotry episode 1-9 (After finishing Clannad that is) And I was like, Pfft, This is not sad, this is just silly. Episode 16-17 came.... Why did this happened? I suffered extreme depression, and crying like a bitch symptom.

***** You sound very similar to me. Elfen lied was the first anime I ever watched (beside the childhood classics ofcourse). I also felt kinda sad and depressed after finishing elfen lied and 5-6 years later when I started watching Clannad I thought I had a heart of a brick. Turned out that that brick of mine wasn't really as tough as I thought it was, which resulted in me being sad and depressed as f*ck, but also really statisfied.

I love After Story. I had watched it when I was younger but I didn't watch the whole thing, so recently I thought I would take up both Clannad and After Story. After Story....man did I cry. A lot. But that ending still catches me as one that feels rather unfinished and sort of rushed. I wish they would've done that ending better, but considering the rest of After Story, I'd have to say it's one of my favorites

This is my absolutely favorite anime (and trust me I've seen a crazy amount of anime) I've seen this 7 times and I'm currently watching it for the 8th time, people must think i have a heart of gold, (which in some cases it's kinda true xD) but clannad is something I truly get emotional with no matter how many times I see it. although it'll never be like the first time i watched it, where i struggled to even finish the anime, and I'm so glad I did. regardless clannad is the reason why I love anime and I enjoy romance anime the most. I'm just an odd person like that, but don't get me wrong I like other genres, it's just I've never seem to hate a good romance anime. and clannad will forever be my favorite because in my heart nothing can beat it's romance. (I even think that my own anime wouldn't be able to compete and yes I am trying to make my own anime :P ) oh btw horror is my 2nd favorite genre lol
