You can't really betray anyone when you are Biba's little puppet from the start, but that's one of the parts that irritated me the most. Mumei was introduced as badass that can handle herself and knows what needs to be done and how to do it, then she got desperate and reckless, getting herself and other in unnecessary danger. Furthermore in the last half she was degraded to just a manipulated brat (well until she finally realized far too late that Biba isn't the good guy in the story but then was brainwashed through drugs and used for his goals anyway). Sure looking at her age she is a child so it's normal that she acts her age (including being bratty and easy to manipulate) but if she is a child that acts her age don't introduce her as badass.

Biba wasnt even meant to be a villain, I remember Chibi saying in his character introduction implying there should be more him than that, Anti-hero status or Tragic good guy, would´ve worked best for him as a character.
@D1i1s18 жыл бұрын
Final Sebas But he clearly was a villain, for his own revenge and nothing else he goes the extra mile to slaughtered and turn hundred thousands of innocent people and destroyed multiple of the few remaining safe spaces of humanity even through he could have just ignored them since they are completely uninvolved. He is too far gone for Anti-hero status or Tragic good guy that is a villain and a bad one at it. Well I don't deny that his introduction implies that there >>should
@sebas82258 жыл бұрын
Gremory No he was only established as a villain by episode 9, when he had started killing multiple people, for the sake of his revenge, this was what triggered the "Biba is shit" movement and the salt, until then he had good anti-hero and tragic good guy potential, he could´ve been the Levi, or Erwin of this anime, but instead he was turned into a edgelord just cause. Even he killed that guy that was trying to kill him, he didnt look villain bad, his character was just misused and the audience caught up to that, it wasnt even subtle, which also caused the problem.

I find that series so difficult to recommend. Not in a 'it's not worth watching' kind of way, but in a 'if you know anything about it going in you've already ruined one of the best things about it' way. I end up just trying to suggest it to people without ever explaining why I'm suggesting it to people, and ain't nobody going to just take me on faith. Still, since the damage is already done here, yes. It's pretty great. The anime tones down the psychological horror pretty hard compared to the manga which I personally find to be a shame, but it's still a solid series.

Kabaneri - for whatever faults it had in Biba as a villain - is easily the best action series for pure visceral entertainment from beginning to end. I honestly thought that this anime had a great potential, but it simply had poor writing and a bullshit ending. The setting and idea behind the story was great.. But I feel like people always over-reacted in a illogical way around the kabane (And the Kabaneri), even though they should already understand the basic logic around it. Someone says "He is a kabene" and everyone starts killing each other.. It simply felt like every single human was an idiot. The ending was bullshit. It made no sense at all and the final baddie also made no sense. But I do have to say that it did have a few nice moments in it and overall was basically a decent popcorn flick (You can watch it brainlessly without putting much thought into it.).

@AluxDoesNotStream8 жыл бұрын
I watched the first 8 episodes of the Berserk 1996 anime adaptation. From what I've heard, Berserk is supposed to be about Guts as he travels the world, followed everywhere by demons, trying to escape from his own bloodlust. That and the supposed dark subject matter are what attracted me to the series. But so far all it's been about is Guts, Griffith and Kaska fighting for a kingdom I don't care about, against another kingdom I don't care about. Zodd showed up and talked mad shit about the behelit, and that piqued my interest but then it just went right back to meaningless, boring battles with no clear goal. Does Berserk get any better soon? I don't dislike Berserk and I'm sure it must improve at some point, but I feel like I'm missing something. I don't understand yet why people love it so much.

so, i know this is literally 3 years late, but i just binged and finished kabaneri the other day, with little to no prior knowledge on the series. and i think there's actually a lot of merit to the comparison between kabaneri's second half and guilty crown's ending. kabaneri had been giving me consistent GC vibes from the moment Biba killed his "assassin" outside the station. frankly, i wasn't aware others had this opinion of it, nor did i realize the two work's shared a director until just now. so surely there must be some merit to their comparison. Biba reminds me of GC, his allies remind me of GC, the things he does to our main cast and the way the main cast respond all remind me of GC, the psychological manipulation of the masses, the antagonist's intimate familiarity with the supernatural elements of the story, biba's half-baked revenge plot wrapped up in some obscure philosophical message sub-plot, ikoma's "needing a hand", the loss of you know who, mumei's betrayal/brainwashing, even the fact that she became a damsel for ikoma to rescue by the end reminded me of GC, as well as the MC burning through his life to save her, and plenty more i can't quite remember. this second half genuinely feels like it bleeds the same blood that Guilty Crown's latter half did

The mc is the only thing that is similar to AoT? There are creatures that like to eat humans, so humanity has now been forced to hide behind walls. Oh wait! The wall has been burst open, we got to run away to the next town. But wait we also have people that can become one of those creatures, so now we have a fighting chance! A major difference between Kab and AoT is that this one is a zombie series. But in AoT there's a mystery aspect. We don't know what the Titans are or where they came from. That's keeps us invested in it because we want to find out. Kab doesn't have that. And please review Bakemonogatari.

Ghouls are not the same as zombies. Zombies have no intelligence, they act on the instinct to feed only. Ghouls have animal or childlike intelligence and can make decisions. Ghouls are created by black magic or being possessed by a demon, where as a zombie is created through voodoo or being bitten by another zombie.

I see the second half as a battle of ideology between how to handle human society in the face of the Kabane threat. You have the protagonist who wants to protect the weak and the antagonist who wants to purge the weak. You don't seem to understand that both reviewers seem to have very different aims when reviewing a show, you can tell just by seeing as how different their mindsets are that Digibro wants to disect and analyze all of the elements in a show and determine their quality as a work, and he never gives a recomendation afterwards, arkada is there to go over the elements that might pull you into or away from watching a show so you can have an idea of what you are dealing with and weather you might want to watch it, and he always ends with a recomendation and sometimes mentions a specific audience for that show This indicates that Digibro is there to TEACH what makes an anime good so you can fairly critique an anime regardless of weather you know about it beforehand or not, while Arkada is here to RECOMEND shows so that you decide what you want to watchIf you really are a fan of those type of reviewers you should really learn to identfy the purpose of a video and give it creddit based on that before mindlessly judging it since just like how Digibro teaches you that you can't hold every anime by the same standars you can't also never hold every youtuber by the same standars... ...or in simpler terms: Fuck you I like his videos

I actually appreciated Arkada's review here quite a bit since he managed to keep from spoiling anything while still explaining what he did or didn't like. I love Digibro and think he is brilliant in what he does, and his incredible writing talent keeps you interested and never feels repetitive while giving possibly the best insights I've heard given on the medium. But Arkada has built his channel under a different philosophy that values giving good recommendations and bringing attention to underrated anime many might miss out on. I won't go into all the merits of these guys, but I think comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges: they are very different but both are delicious. I feel Arkada deserves every bit of praise he gets, personally. But no disrespect meant, just my opinion!

I appreciate that the movie brought it back to the zombie survival series that I like a lot, while at the same time adding a villain that was good, but not over-powered. It gave the movie a great story and made it many times better than the series ever was. I'd highly recommend: *Koutetsujou no Kabaneri: Unato Kessen* to anyone who was remotely interested in the series, even if they didn't like it.

I just finished it and the sequel movie. Honestly the guy in the sequel movie would've been a way, way better long running villain, although I personally loved the series start to finish. Biba didn't ruin it for me tbh. as for your recommendations at the end, God Eater is an amazing show and I also recommend it highly.

Should I be watching these review vids before or after I watch the anime?
@atomica41438 жыл бұрын
Why would you watch a review of a show you've already seen?
@EnvyTraxus8 жыл бұрын
DJ Atomic Hmm, good point, I guess I should be forming my own 'review' of the show after watching it. And to answer your question, I think most people here actually watch the review after watching the show, which is also why those chapter by chapter/episode by episode review channels are so popular. Probably due to them wanting to hear ex-youtuber's thoughts on the show.
@koopanique8 жыл бұрын
Actually I'm sure you're right, most people like to read/watch review for shows they've already seen. Usually GR reviews are spoiler-free so you can go ahead and watch them before watching the anime
@sterlingmuse58088 жыл бұрын
Personally I watch Arkada's reviews both before and after, to get recommendations and to understand his opinions. If you're worried about spoilers, easy answer is to just watch it first, but if you have trouble with that his reviews usually give me a good idea about whether or not I want to watch it.

I don't see what was so bad about the second arc. The Kabane never felt like they were on the forefront of the show's priorities, but it was more about the characters. Yeah maybe Mumei should have had less of that screen-time overall but I liked the second arc a lot: just as much as the first. Biba was a good villain.

The first episode was SO PROMISING! But it just fell flat on its face with some really shitty characters and plot twists :c It should have sticked with the rule of cool setting.
@camiloprieto38148 жыл бұрын
I think that the comparison between Titan and Kabaneri goes beyond. Not only do they have, as you mentioned, the same director, studio and overall staff and the similar main character, but also this: -First episode: the story on how the town of the main character was destroyed. -Main characters that have a very similar way of thinking and that are artifitiallly related to the similar-to-human creatures that destroyed their respective towns. -Badass female main character who should be the main (although one is not related to the enemies). Yes, there are differences between the two to make Kanaberi not being a direct copy-paste of Titan, but there are enough similarities to make them feel like the same show, at least development-wise.

*thoughts* i had hopes for this but this was a disappointing experience. it was inconsistent and had plot armor. they changed the direction of the plot making the initial goal....irrelevant... turning it into a painfully generic experience of good vs evil rather then survival. and the ridiculous ending just made it even worse... *overall* despite my complaints i would still recommend this. *Whats wrong with this show* *Ep1* the guy running when they were just going to lock him up for 3 days to see if he was infected when he wasn't so there was no reason to run. the girl in the pink kimono sneaking outside while having bells on her that obnoxiously big explosion just from a train crashing the main character was able to hold one off when it has the physical strength to bend reinforced steel.... if they get bit in a limb why don't they quickly amputate it? at least its a option for living even if its not pleasant. they decided its a curse with out doing tests to prove it... *Ep2* another girl has super human abilitys. but its hard to take this show seriously when they ignore the fact that only the ones that can't talk are evil... most people in this show are idiots...its no different then any other type of discrimination. *Ep3* i hate Ikomas personality...he is perfectly fine with all of them saying nonsense like remove them off the train but is against her defending herself...its ridiculous...the only reason those ungrateful pieces of shit are alive is because of both of them...they should be thrown off the train... Ikoma has a great body despite spending all of his time with mental tasks why can't Mumei drink the kabanes blood? does it have to be human? or can it be other sources? and why blood? *ep4* why were they surprised in Ep2 when Mumei was killing the kabane? since you see all kinds of people with guns and a bow killing them...this is inconsistency Ikoma learned how to fight way too fast. what did he have a few minutes to 1 hour of training? *ep5* the dog death scene...they are hypocrites....acting like they don't abandon others... its basically been confirmed to be a virus by Ikoma so why is there impossibly giant demon emitting black smoke? Mumei fought for longer then her limits but she didn't get sleepy. *ep6* human weight isn't enough to stop that large steel train from tipping over *ep8* when did Ayame get the master key back? last we saw same random guy took it and chose to go to the mountain path *ep12* it feels like they forgot what the kabane are supposed to be capable of compared to humans. sometimes humans like the swordsmen that follows the princess seems stronger then he should be. Ikoma was able to retain his sanity for the entire time... everything is falling apart and exploding for no reason while they leave Ikoma lives with a 100% death rate...plot armor :/

It’s easy to find sense of this series based on objectively visual and narrative comparisons made with Attack on Titan and its contemporaries, but I think for what this show is and what it has to offer, I think we can dig much further than that by analyzing implicit and explicit themes that are at play. I’ve laid out a list of themes that I think are prevalent and critical to this narrative, and would like to hear your thoughts about them. Feel free to include other themes you think are present as well. - Fear - Doubt - Optimism - Realism - Nihilism - Faith - Fanaticism - Nature - Nurture - Science and ethics - Human morality

It has beautiful animation and great action sequences!! The story is solid as well. Honestly I don't see why people compare it to AOT, they don't have that many similarities. A steampunk story with zombies on a fortified train, pretty freakin awesome!

I actually quite enjoyed this anime, for what it was. Personally, I never let hype get to me. Which is why I like anime such as Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill, Watamote, Noragami, Tokyo Ghoul, Akame ga Kill, Terror in Resonance, One Punch Man, Re:Zero, Mob Psycho 100, and this anime, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Simply due to the fact that I watch anime to be entertained, not to fill an imaginary hype meter or conform to the masses or jump on a hate bandwagon.

Definitely the most overrated and overhyped anime of Spring 2016.
@noshgaming8 жыл бұрын
Lol it was overhyped but plz throw that 'overrated' word away cuz u dont even know how to use it. How was it even overrated when 75 percent of the whole fanbase hated the show ? You can call re:zero overrated if u want or attack on titan overrated, but kabaneri was overrated lmao? I am sure at the end, everyone mostly hated it. So no over rating whatsoever was involved in kabaneri of the iron fortress. Sorry for meh grammar.
@Deepicanimefreak8 жыл бұрын
no,that will be Erased aka Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi which everyone forgot about already since it was extremely mediocre
@noshgaming8 жыл бұрын
Lol sure people forgot about it but it was very good despite the underwhelming ending. Have u even seenits ranking on myanimelist? Its easily in the top 50s. Its also a type of anime which u might never get again. Its manga got quite successful after the anime ended in both usa and japan. The manga is actually better and has a more darker ending. Overall, erased was a solid anime despite the fact that they deviated from the manga in the last few episodes but it still wasn't bad.
@InfiniteTurbine8 жыл бұрын
It was hyped when it first began, but as the episodes released, week by week, a *lot* of people grew to like it less and less, and they made that apparent. 'Hyped' describes it, especially at the start, but 'Overhyped' doesn't. 'Overrated' doesn't even fit it at all.
@truedps88 жыл бұрын
I greatly enjoyed it, more than most of the other spring 2016 anime. It's only other competition was Re;Zero, Magi, and Boku no Hero. So yeah it was quite good.

Dear Arkada, I would like to share that compared to Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, I feel 91 Days is by far the best anime of 2013 in regards to character development, music, and story. In regards to main characters, 91 has a stronger, realistic and complex character whether Kabaneri's feels stereotypical. Moreover, though Kabaneri's opening is amazing and pumps you up, 91 Days feels coherent and more attached to the protagonist. Some might say that 91 Day's opening is unattached to the story arch since it uses modern instrumentation as apposed to period themes but I believe this was done on purpose to attract modern viewers. Nevertheless, 91 Days make up for this by adding a stellar period peace to the ending credits. All in all, I look forward to your review of 91 Days as I believe it along with Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu were the best animes of 2016 in regards to characters, plot, plot progression, musical score, and lack of predictability. On a side note, I am a big fan of your videos and I would appreciate thumbs up or a reply if only to know you acknowledge my kind and thoughtful comment. Sincerely, Leonardo

I personally think that Ikoma's voice actor could have a bit more consistency, one minute he's a Shuu Ouma copy, next minute he has a badass protagonist voice. Also add in that Yuki Kaji, the voice for Eren and Shuu, two MCs from two shows that Arkada specifically mentioned, did a really good job as the fat sidekick (can't remember his name) The ED sold it for me, Aimer AND Chelly? that's one way to get me to watch anything
