Usually because shorter animes are well planned to fit in the given slot so they're structured well and can relay a more structured and in effect, enjoyable experience. Long running shonen animes can't do that because they have to keep running forward. It's really hard to structure 800 episodes of story properly while maintaining all elements in an equilibrium, and also that when it gets that long, there will inevitably be repetitiveness and crushing low points.

Cesar Rivera Music is a masterpiece of many faces, and conceived by even more in our minds eye. It's how we envision and share this picture to others that this music can bloom and flourish in New ways vastly different than it's original, and yet still reminiscent of its predecessor. The world needs new songs, and new composers to show them and new performers to make their emotions felt. I have been consumed by the beauty of this music and I never intend on going back... it is as if I'm listening to the voice of God
@s.okrazy40356 жыл бұрын
Cesar Rivera The music was. The series was rather predictable and I didn't even read one spoiler. I could tell she was gonna die, it's how these shows work, so the show was okay, but definitely not a great anime. Clannad in the other hand, is a masterpiece. Would definitely recommend it.

King Of Africa I really don't see how predictability counts into how well made the anime was. I believe we could all tell how it was going to end. Then again, I can't argue that Clannad wasn't a masterpiece lol.

This may sound weird, but in the end of Your Lie in April, I cried tears; happy tears... sad tears... or mad tears?? IDK JUST SO MANY FEELS!!! But at the last ten minutes of the series I burst out in tears because I felt _guilty_. Even though Kourie isn't a real person, I felt guilty because she died without having a chance to live her life, and near the end she started to live her life the way she wanted because she knew she was going to die soon. She takes risks because she knows that her life is coming to an end! That made me cry mostly sad tears. But then a few minutes later I cried guilty tears (is that a thing???) because I'm a hermit binge watching anime and not putting myself out there and living life to the fullest, when Kourie barely had a chance to do just that... in short, it literally made me realize how precious my life is. And that I shouldn't try to become famous or be know around the world for curing cancer or something, but that I should enjoy life, not for anyone else, but for _me_, and that I should live my life and take risks because I only have *one* to live. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can tell, I really enjoyed this anime, maybe even a little too much! 😂 That's what made it so different than other drama or tradedgy anime! I can't even put it into a genre! But thanks for reading my pointless comment, bye now! 🤗

The whole anime was amazing, but the ending was really something special. One of the things I really enjoyed was the show's use of symbolism for establishing certain motifs, like how the cat symbolized Kosei's inability to move forward, manifested in his not being able to play, and once he moves past that, it starts to symbolize the conflicting feelings he has about the person that helped him move past his trauma. I've never seen a series take the approach to storytelling that this series has, and I loved every minute of it. I've heard Anohana does similar things, so I'm excited to see what that has in store for me.

Just found out this series in the past weeks. Binge-watched all of it. I'm usually none for "slice of life" setting animes, but this one grabbed me and didn't let me go. It helped that I'm a musician currently prepping for a concert and that I'm in character quite similar to Kousei. And rare? Boy, you haven't even touched on one of the most rare parts of this. It deals with the the death of people and how people deal with it. Haven't seen that in these kind of anime... like at all.

U mustve never seen Naruto, fullmetal Alchemist, or One Piece
@danielhounshell25267 жыл бұрын
+THE BLACK RAIKAGE Those shows have death, but they don't really deal with it as a theme. Simply having death doesn't make a work tragic, otherwise call of duty could be called an immensely tragic story, rather, dealing with death and how such things as the prospect of death and terminal illness affects people, as well as how they develop from such tragedies and move forward is actually very rare. Even rarer to see it done well, and this show does it wonderfully. I also really liked how the tragedy of the series didn't rely on the surprise of it happening. The foreshadowing gives you enough to come to conclusions on what will happen, but often makes you question those conclusions. The tragedy of the series relies on seeing the story and watching the foreshadowing become a reality, and how the characters respond to it, although, that's just one of the many things that this show did to achieve tragedy. A lot of the shows you mentioned either didn't present the deaths well, had characters quickly forget about them, or simply evaded the subject of how those events impacted the character. Those shows rarely make the people feel real to me, and so I don't often find myself getting invested in what happens to the characters.
@Gabby-jv3ip6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Hounshell good point
@alexborg93935 жыл бұрын
Daniel Hounshell not that I disagree with what your saying. But Naruto definitely portrayed how death affects someone and how they deal with it. Like there are too many to name. Jaraiya. Asuma. Those are some of the best examples that come to mind. It’s just that this is a 22 episode anime, so you can recall each detail a lot easier. I naruto you have to stretch the details over hundreds of episodes, so sometimes some things can get lost inside of it, but it’s still there. In fact, you get to see how the trauma of deaths actually affects them long after the fact, and how it shaped how characters developed. But still, I can agree that this show definitely portrays the theme a lot better, given that’s mostly all there is too it, not that that’s a bad thing.

That's why it's Dissapointing, I mean it's nothing like 'I want to eat your pancreas' movie, despite having the same Premis, ... it was already clear early on that Korie had lil time, so why waste it on pushing a traumatised MC, instead they should have shown her past more than even the MC, cuz she is the main heroin after Four eyes pianist right? ...The span of episodes already prepared the audience for her death, but the series still didn't emphasized her more than others, her n MCs growth was too faint for regrets ...The series is very less organic, first MC is forces by mother n Then by Kaori lol, but then suddenly other side characters started playing a bigger role in MCs growth.., and the feels got messed up, ... This story focused on MC so much that it made the Lead heroines mere side characters for a good amount of Episodes.. ...untill the last 2 episodes where their relationship actually got serious but by then it was too late.. Since feelings are all over the place.. It didn't made me feel bad for any character... Except maybe Kaori? cuz it's not very clear to me if she died, cuz many fans say no one died, ..and the MC didn't cried like he should if she really died. I m very dissapointed with this series, cuz it really had immense potential.. Sigh*

To be honest, the shadow of her sickness and the blade of death are on her since the first scene on the playground in episode one. The first introduction of her makes it pretty clear, that she is suffering. She's already exhausted playing music with the kids on the playground. Therefore, it is pretty clear from the beginning, that she has to deal with something serious. What hits that hard, and gives you hope throughout the series is that, despite her own awareness that she might leave soon, again and again, they give some glimpses of hope for her. Countless times, she comes back after a seizure. Time after time she manages to get back to the ones she loves and finally the bright ray of hope, when she decides to undergo a risky surgery. That last bit of believe in luck. It gives hope to the audience, hope to the characters themselfes. Just to be ultimately smashed into pieces by the very last performance of the show. The short cuts to the medical equipment of which the last one showed her pulse going low... her appearance and well... I can't type it anymore... After having it sit idle for a long time on my watchlist, I binged it completely yesterday, starting from afternoon until late in the night... It crushed me, made me into a fucking ball, lying in my bed and I cried myself to sleep last night. This is a show, and those are characters I won't forget for a long, long time... It is strange. Those shows regularly make me a mess, despite being not really an emotional person. I love and hate those shows at the same time. I want and don't want to watch more of those. It's cruel, heartwarming and heartcrushing at the same time...

I don't see this issue brought up very often, but I feel like the show needs a bit more "show don't tell." Whenever there is any sort of metaphor or callback, it cuts back to previous footage. I constantly found myself saying: "Yes show, I remember that that happened, I got the reference."

Coming from a musical background definitely helped me enjoy this show more than I think non-musicians would. Being a classical pianist myself, the characters' experiences with their peers, song choices, teachers, family, etc. were extraordinarily relatable. It was easy to appreciate the attention to detail and had I not grown up with music being such a big part of my life, YLIA wouldn't have held the same meaning.

This was the first anime that I suggested to my mom to watch (she was in her mid 50's at the time). My mom watches shows on Netflix and such, so is familiar with digital viewing, but she is NOT a binge watcher. I watched the first few episodes with her, to help give context and a mindset to view the series in, things that otaku take as second nature, then let her experience it on her own. She ended up binging the later half of the series in a day, breaking down crying at the end. I'd like to think it opened her eyes to what anime can do and be.

Love this anime, rewatched it because of how post-college life has gone recently. I lost interest in teaching because of a rough internship that I barely was able to complete and dreaded. I was also put on a waitlist for a teaching position which was my goal for the last 5 years. I thought I'd never teach again and found a sense of scorn towards it. I have picked myself back up and have applied for another teaching position in Japan. I find myself being able to relate to this anime and appreciate it much more.

Being someone who has studied piano one thing I think this show hit the target on was how your brain wanders while you’re performing. Once you’ve practiced something enough your mind tends to wander and you seldom remember playing/singing. It was great for me. I really liked this show!

I will rewatch this anime every April. I rewatched it starting on April 1st and watched 1 episode a day every day until the final episode on April 22nd seeing as it has 22 episodes. And of course, I cried my eyes out all over again. Takes a lot to make me cry but this series makes me cry. Anohana made me cry so much, too. One of my friend's who is quite the musical prodigy herself LOVED this series and it's portrayal of music. I got to hear her gush about how the animation felt dynamic and portrayed the way people play the instruments correctly in subtle ways of how Kaori moves her violin and moves her bow but also how Kousei fingers are hitting the right notes at the right time.. I also got to hear about how much she appreciated the way you can feel the emotions in the music and how you can tell how the character's are feeling through the music. I may not be a musical person and such, but I do want to bring up I really do adore this series for various different reasons than my friend who adores it because of her adoration for classical music and performances of it.

Loved the opening so much! [Spoiler alert] What I hate about the show is that in every essence, its realistic in a weird yet scary way. Exaggerations done in a show (I.E. Kousei wanting and getting to perform [though as a duet] in a different school, Kousei's infamy/fame, so on and so forth... I could go on, but I'd digress) scarily parallels the things that happen in real life. Examples of such? 1.) Parents even resorting to physical beatings on their child to make them do something (whether they like it or not) perfectly: Kousei was abused in a scary way to perform the piano in such a robotic way that it's (atleast within the universe of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) perfect, flawless, as intended. 2.) Reason why Saki (Kousei's mom) abused him that much: A parent's concern (especially when nearing death while their child/children are faaaaarrr too young to be left alone) for her child's future and what that parent can leave to her child is actually quite true. Saki knew Kousei was physically fragile, so she wanted to make sure that Kousei knew how to play the piano the way she hoped so that Kousei has a path to follow in order to survive. Kousei, by all means, can choose to go another path, thus why she abused Kousei in such a way... because she was about to die. If she was nowhere near getting sick, Kousei would've probably be as successful in his youth, but he'd be happier. 3.) Rivalries actually push people to perform better: Yes, deep down inside everyone, there's a part that we want to outdo the other person. It isn't anywhere near jealousy, but you believe that you can outdo that other dude. It's just a question of how much you put into it. 4.) PTSD: Yes, you can have a trauma. I've got friends who're scared of holding babies (because one of them dropped a child by accident that he refuses to hold a baby out of sheer fear), scared of using skateboards, and even scared of performing live with a musical instrument. Though one would say that "I can't hear the notes on the piano" stuff is either true/false/plausible, the point is that there's a trauma. 5.) People getting out of their way to make the most of their lives when nearing death: Yes, YOLO, but in an actually productive way. Kaori stopped using glasses, ate whatever she wanted without worrying about her weight, so on and so forth, but when you're nearing death, you essentially have a bucket list, whether you know it or not.

I don't think you should literally hate a show because it's "realistic" to real life. If these elements were not "realistic", then they would not as powerful as they were in the show. If you make characters that are not relatable, you have an audience that can't put their emotions into them. These elements make up why YLIA is such a good anime in itself. You can't just hate something for being "realistic", it's kinda insipid.
@jlara1018 жыл бұрын
I just want to point out that the song Kosei plays as a child is Chopin's ballade no.1 op.23, this is interesting because it is the last song he plays in the show. His change in character and personality is clearly shown. It gives more weight to an already awe inspiring scene; and is a marker to compare who he was and who he is now, the effect one very special person had on his life

Kamina The Lad Honestly I felt like Watari who was supposed to be one of the main characters did not get enough development. @yugiohaddictedfan77 жыл бұрын
Kamina The Lad plotwise, i believe that teaching that girl helped kousei mature, especially while kaori was at hospital. she was like, a motive for him to play. not to mention that, their performance together was what helped kaori try to dream again. id agree though, that arc was kinda boring for me as well
