OTL is making a 3 tip exhaust as well. From the pics ive seen in the forum, its more of a rectangular center tip. I'm going to wait on RK Titanium and OTL to release there product before making up my mind between AWE, RKT and OTL.

We saw! We will have to snag that one as well for a comparison 👍🏽

Appreciate this video and all the details! Is that ziptie setup really okay in the snow and salt? I winter drive and daily my GR :(
@circuitdemon_6 ай бұрын
We are driving in the winter as well here. The valve itself is weather sealed from the factory so even though it’s not directly attached to the exhaust now this should not make a difference. Great question though!

How loud is the Touring Edition relative to the MBRP on the Highway? My Center Exit MBRP would drone pretty solid in 6th gear between 75-85mph.
@circuitdemon_6 ай бұрын
So far much better than the MBRP as far as highway drone goes 👍🏽 The MBRP used to kill our ears at highway speeds 😂

I got mine in last week, I'm renting a lift and installing it on thursday! I should have four hours on the lift, do you think that's enough time for this exhaust and a rear pitch engine mount? With 2-3 extra hands?

My real question for the stock valved exhaust vs the non-valved is if there is a power difference between the two. There must be a reason why Gazoo Racing added the valve for power. It was obviously not for sound reasons since the type r had a similar design
@scotthung78876 ай бұрын
Nope, they’re not valved: During R&D, AWE conducted a (quite painstaking) full evaluation of the factory valve and its behavior under various driving conditions to determine its reason for existing. The valve is not controllable by the driver whatsoever-meaning regardless of the driving mode, buttons, settings, etc, there’s no opening/closing the valve from within the cabin. It works directly off of throttle input and only opens upon a certain breach of a threshold declared by the ECU very low in the rev range. Its sole purpose is for backpressure, and considering the factory exhaust design, flow is given priority to the center outlet (the larger one). The factory rear muffler is baffled with no packing material and only directs flow to the left and right exits when cruising at light throttle inputs. After confirming this, and given our configurations already remove any backpressure issues organically, it would have been pointless to incorporate a valve.

Most likely the factory mufflers are more restrictive so it needs a valve. With aftermarket those restrictions gone so no valve needed!
@chucksimonds51646 ай бұрын
If you disconnect the valve (which keeps it open) there is some drone/interior vibration below 3000 rpm. This is eliminated with the valve closed, so I think the only reason for the valve is to eliminate this low rpm annoyance with the stock exhaust.

Really on the fence. I had the MBRP but went back to stock cause it was a little too loud for me. So if this a little quieter then I think it’s worth it. I like the tone too! But then there is the HKS one. Ugh decisions decisions..,

I installed mine today, and love the sound and look. Install was pretty straight forward with the awesome directions. But, I have only driven it for a few miles and when I almost come to a complete stop it makes a strange sound. It’s hard to describe…have you had a similar experience? Also, could it be something with zip tying the valve?..
@kaymach3 ай бұрын
idk why they didn't reply to you. it's the stock valve opening and closing as per the ECU's instructions. it's normal.
@JohnMachado243 ай бұрын
@@kaymach I had the new version that actually has a bracket to mount the valve horizontally, once I did that the issue went away.
@kaymach3 ай бұрын
@@JohnMachado24 oh. well, it should still be making that opening and closing noise via the motor on the valve. you'll hear a low volume high pitched hum when coming to a stop
@JohnMachado243 ай бұрын
@@kaymach exactly what was happening when I zip tied it vertically, mounting it horizontally solved it.
@kaymach3 ай бұрын
@@JohnMachado24 that's so odd. mine is mounted horizontal and still makes the noise of the motor turning the lil fork

This is exactly correct! Sort of strange that there is no manual control for the valve though. Would have been cool!

The touring edition is too quiet for this car. Please do an updated video with the track edition and compare the experience.

The Touring Edition's 180 Technology resonator removes a range of very deep bass frequenices from the exhaust flow that translates to dicomort within the cabin. From the outside, Touring and Track will sound quite similar as there's no packing material in the 180 Tech resonator (so the tone wont change over time after initial break-in of the components + soot collection in the transition sections). You can tell the difference of bass in the exhaust note between the two, though (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpDbinqoj6ZgnJosi=gSqxes-OrhMzLuUx), which is 180 Tech doing it's magic while facilitating the same performance charactersitcs of a "straight pipe." 😎

That’s awesome! If an exhaust is not the route for you, we would still recommend looking into the Forge Motorsport short shifter for the car. This really improves the everyday driving experience, and have had such great feedback from our customers. And at a cheap price point ($85) it’s so worth it.
