I remember about 2 years these students from Japan visted my school. They came into our class and we talked for a bit, they didn't speak a lick of English btw. So we were talking, a friend of mine translating, and the topic of anime came up. Turns out, the English versions are more popular there. They said the voices sound cooler or something. Kinda interesting how we differ but are so much alike.

Growing up with Avatar was like a dream. A really awesome and amazing dream. One second ATLA wasnt even a thing and then it became one of the most popular shows on Nickelodeon. This was one of those shows that even if you didn't like it, you watched it. Because there had to be at least one person in your house that loved it and as you passed by the TV you'd find yourself so engrossed in the dynamic of the show, the action, the animation, the dialogue, the characters that you barely realized you were watching it. How do I know this you ask? I used to be one of those people who didn't like the show but as I sat down with my cousins and watched Sozins Comet with them I realized how incredibly awesome and amazing this show really was. I recently watched it again in the summer and I understood it alot more then when I was 8 years old. This is one of those shows that you never get tired of. I still get the chills when Aang goes into the Avatar State, I still am moved by Iroh's wisdom, Im still scared to death of freaked Azula (especially her ending. watching that when yours 8 is an experience), I still want to be Sokka's best friend, I still have a crush on Zuko, I still have a crush on Jet, I still laugh at the cabbage guy, I still am inspired by Katara to be a strong and capable female while also being caring and level-headed, and most of all above all things.....I AM STILL TEAM AVATAR!! ....so uh yeah....guess you could say I like the show

And starting a couple weeks ago i began re watching the series, every weekend a coupleish episodes Except this time i can show my 12 year old brother (im 16). He loves it, its just great that even though it is and 8 year old show it can still be loved by people introduced to it today. he may have watched it a bit with me when i was 8 but he would have been 4 so he really doesn't remember/know anything. it is really fun watching someone watch avatar for the first time

“The Tales of Ba Sing Se” is very far from being a useless filler. Actually is a very ingenious way of marking the passage of time the characters make a living in the city, using just one single episode. By the time we resume Aang’s search for Appa, we can feel, because of this single episode, how long it took for them to meet again, making their reunion so more strong. And I cry at the end of Iroh’s tale every single time I rewatch it.

One of the things about nostalgia is that it often clouds out judgement and makes you attribute qualities that where not really there to stuff you enjoyed years ago, when I rewatched avatar like 3 months ago I went in expecting that to happen, I mean I was 8 when the series first started airing and I was blown away by it but how does a 18 year old mind react to it after so many years, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was, in fact, really fucking good, and I totally get your desire to keep talking about it, avatar has a way to grip you with passion that you barely ever get in any other sort of content, every time I talk about avatar it devolves into gigantic essays of thousands of words because that's how it gets you, it's just so fantastic

The reason for leaving a power ambiguous is not so that it doesn't make sense, rather it provides a greater element of mystery to the work. Star wars is the best example. Nobody wanted nor needed to know how the force worked, just that it EXISTED and WORKED. It's ambiguity was a massive strength. Same goes for the Avatar. Nobody wanted nor needed to know how the Avatar cycle worked, only that it EXISTED and WORKED. By explaining the origins of the power, they willingly threw away the mystery behind it. They also threw away the mystery of the spirit world in Korra. In TLA, the spirit world was a vastly mysterious place and the tone clearly portrayed that. In Korra, the spirit world was given a repaint. Instead of being dark and mysterious, it became rather complex and very, very messy. In TLA the spirits were portrayed as few, but powerful. LOK portrayed them as many with a few sprinkles of Godlike ones, just to name an example. There are many reasons I hate Korra. This is one of them. For me to still enjoy A:TLA to the degree I do, I literally have to force myself to believe that Korra isn't canon. The two series' logic conflict in so many ways that LOK is basically a walking contradiction to the original series.

Tales of Ba Sing Se is a terrible recommendation for someone who hasn't watched Avatar yet. Season 3 is the weakest? Then what about all of those redemption arcs of zuko, the invasion of the fire nation, or that episode about kitara finding her mother's killer. That is just wrong man especially since there was a lot of build in this season up to the finale. If you want to call which season is the weakest, it has to be season 1 at least.
@wazup33335 жыл бұрын
I wish we could get a remastered version.. updated animation detail, script, maybe change up the art style a bit, etc..that would be really cool since its the things season 1 and maybe 2 lacked imo. Sometimes people forget that Avatar: The Last Airbender is still a kids show normally layed out for kids, which is why the first season is more goofy. To catch attention. (And to introduce the characters in a good way.)
@dinocelahmetovic72634 жыл бұрын
I consider 3 to be the weakest too, BUT ITS NOT BAD, lol it's still great I enjoyed it but here are my issues. 1. Zuko's mom subplot: I know the creators said they had a scene of her in the final episode epilogue but it got cut out ultimately, this is a smaller complaint but I really wanted closure on Zuko finding his mom and the mystery surrounding her. 2. This might sound like an odd complaint but I wanted more. By the time Zuko joins team Avatar there are 9 episodes left, and I would have loved more episodes to flesh out characters stories and have more adventures with the full team! 3. The episode about Aang going to the fire nation school and teaching them to dance is fun and silly and I enjoyed it but I would have much rather that time go to further developing some character relationships. As the lighting fast pacing of the show makes book 3 fly by. 4. Aang & Katara's relationship. I love how adorable Aang and Kataras are together and most shows of this nature have mediocre writing and even worse so for romance and theirs is done so well from a simple crush to earning trust learning caring and bonding. But in Book 3 I really wanted to see them as ab awkward cute dorky couple. And in that one play episode, during an intermission Katara talks to Aang and he is bummed out thinking Katara may not really love him and that she may like Zuko, and she reassures him she doesn't love Zuko and Aang talks about how he feels weird about them that after their first kiss at the invasion that he thought they would have been in a relationship. And she says although she loves him back she is confused saying now isn't the right time seeing as they are literal days away from fighting Ozai and it leaves their romance in a weird spot, and then during the final battle she goes to help Zuko, but I feel like she should have gone out to help Aang and as cheesy as it sounds I like Iroh's explanation that what the avatar needs is love and love should have been the key to defeating Ozai. The next time Aang and Katara have a real moment together is the final scene where they both embrace each other and kiss and it's amazing but to go from the awkward play scene to that felt a little off. Small complaint in total yeah as they ultimately end up together but it could have used more time. These are some of my thoughts.

Korra has some really great high points, like each Book's villains, the Avatar Wan origin story, and the commentaries on government/social order. However, it has one major problem that relates to GR's praise of the first series. **SPOILERS** The Last Airbender, as GR pointed out, follows a single hero's journey arc from the moment Aang comes out of the iceberg to the final battle with Fire Lord Ozai. His growth as a character is always moving forward as he masters the elements, overcomes his fears, flaws and doubts, and grows into a fully realized Avatar. In The Legend of Korra, though, we see Avatar Korra go through the same arc in every single season. Each Book has Korra saddled with some kind of crippling crisis of self that she must overcome before fighting a big bad, and in each arc, she gets "Samus Aran'd" in the process. In Book One, she struggles with her inability to airbend, then has her other bending taken away by Amon. In Book Two, she laments her lack of connection to the Spirit World, then has her link to Rava severed. In Book Three, she must face the fact that she's still vulnerable despite her awesome power, then gets poisoned to the point of near death. In Book Four, she battles the post-traumatic stress from her fight with Zaheer, then suffers a humiliating defeat at Kuvira's hands and must overcome _that_ self-doubt before facing her again. I still really love The Legend of Korra, but it always seemed like Korra's character (and therefore the base plot of the entire show) was constantly retreading old ground and ending back at square one. Each season is a fine arc in its own right, but taken as a whole series, there just isn't a uniting plot thread with a clear beginning and end like there was in The Last Airbender.

Unless you are specifically ignoring it (not to imply that you are), you can generally tell whether someone is using the textbook definition or the colloquialism of "anime". In this video, and this comment, it happens to be the latter. EDIT: If you don't know what a colloquialism is, it's like going to a McDonalds and asking for a "Pop" or a "Soft drink". You aren't purchasing a 'pop' sound for you to take home, nor are you asking for a drink that is somehow softer than other drinks (both of those are physically impossible to my knowledge), you're asking for a Soda.

This show will always be my top...anything that's related to media. More than my favorite books, favorite video games, all of it. This show kept me sane. Gave me something to absorb myself in when I was going through a serious bout of depression post-Hurricane Katrina. I'd always dabbled in writing and storytelling, but as an occasional thing I did but never took seriously. But when I saw Zuko vs Zhao while flipping through channels one Saturday morning, I had to see what the heck this show as all about. I was hooked and my creative spark became an pyroclastic eruption. I had to get on a computer. I had to learn more. I didn't know what my life would become with all the broken and destroyed lives that still hadn't returned to normal and this was, what, 5 months after the fact? Extended family was gone. So many businesses still hadn't reopened. The Saints were in San Antonio and might stay there. And I had no idea what I was even going to college for or why I should even bother. But at least I could wait to see another episode. To crank out another chapter or participate in some forum text RPG deal. I remember the anxious period of the hiatus between season two and three. And the feeling of utter hype when the season three trailer dropped. This is all very cheesy and some of it silly now that I look back over 11 years later But A:TLA defined a strong part of my young adult life. It had it's flaws. And to this day I hated seeing Zuko turn good when he did. Lost a damn bet about whether he'd become Zuko's firebending teacher to boot. But whatever. It was the best damn ride. If you haven't watched this show or don't like it? That's cool though. For a dude like myself, I could not imagine how different things would be if it never existed.

If a musician from Japan composed a song for a jazz band, would we not call it jazz? No art form is exclusive to any nationality. TLA is anime.

Year old comment, but animes are animations that specifically originate from or is associated with Japan. Jazz music is something that is not defined by where it was from but anime is.

I was born four months premature and have been legally blind my entire life. I vividly remember watching the first episode of avatar when I was eight years old. It was beautiful and funny and interesting and everything a bookworm introvert kid like me needed. And then, there is Toph. Listening to your review, it made me realize that I went into the show without any preconceived notion‘s of diversity, acceptance, awareness, or anything that the characters could teach. I was too young for that complex thinking I suppose. So, your perspective on Toph as an adult watching the series is fascinating. Whatever archetype or theme a character is meant to portray, they are always people first. It is something so many authors, artists, and other creators get wrong. Thankfully, the show gets it right. It tells, not just one story, but a constantly expanding collection of stories. It gives them each the time needed to grow and change, and maybe we see a character again in season three, maybe we don’t. But they are there in the world, and they are there for people to find solace in. That’s amazing on a lot of levels, and it makes me happy that someone who doesn’t have the childhood nostalgia also feels the same way about a show I love. Thank you.

Even if people think korra was SJW influenced. It wasnt forced down our throats. Korra didnt do things because of patriarchy or her race or sexual preferences. She dis what she thought she had to do. Had human problems. Teenage problems. And dealt with them. She just happened to be brown and bisexual. Thats good in my books.

@baatarbeifong78698 жыл бұрын
Same! The music in the last episodes is so beautiful. I liked how they changed up the formula with almost all of the main characters having side quests with Zuko, but I do wish that they had showed more of Aang learning how to fire bend
@baatarbeifong78698 жыл бұрын
+Dragon Ball Super Episode 5 I thought that Aang got over that when he had to accepted his past and his identity as a firebender in that season 2 episode with the Indian monk. I wanted more than just the dragon episode and the opening part of the sozin's comet episodes. It would have been cool to see if Aang could generate lightning~
@gurjotsingh52108 жыл бұрын
Baatar Beifong he could re direct it
@baatarbeifong78698 жыл бұрын
While it was neat to see how he could deal with another bending sub skill, bloodbending, being the stronger waterbender in the avatar state compared to Yakone (like Katara resisting Hama), it would have been even cooler to see him have the ability to bend blood and similarly, lightning (other than redirection, of which even the mediocre firebender, Zuko, was capable). I really liked how Korra could metalbend, and I don't think that Aang's transformation to Roku in Roku's temple counted since Roku was the one who was lavabending. Since after the War, Zuko, becomes the Firelord and Toph becomes a metal bending teacher, Aang doesn't seem to really learn anymore at least as seen in the comics, and I wanted to see more~
@lrush69837 жыл бұрын
+Symbiotic Coherence It was the best. Peace is restored, Ozai is in jail for the rest of his damn life, and Aang finally gets with Katara
