I remember staying up late watching episodes of this show and a few others. I was a young boy then, and would invariably get into trouble for staying up. But this show, and some John Wayne movies influenced me to join the Army. That was late 70s early 80s, and by the mid 80s I knew I was going to join. A friend of mine and I were supposed to join together on the buddy program, but when it came time he pussed out. I joined anyways and went alone. Glad I did. It was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. It taught me responsibility, discipline and integrity. It taught me to grow up. Before I went, I was a lazy, irresponsible teenager punk. By the time I ETSd, I had grown immensely. I didn’t think I’d have to serve during a war, but was deployed to Desert Shield / Desert Storm. I also spent 2 years in Germany, and another 2 years stationed at Ft Carson Colo springs. I wouldn’t trade a minute of it for a lifetime of being that lazy punk kid. It also taught me about diversity, and culture. I met so many people of different walks of life, different ethnicities. It taught me to appreciate people for who they are. That old saying, To judge a man by the content of their character etc - is absolutely true. I met and TRUSTED so many different peoples of color who were such great soldiers and men, and I met people who were absolute sacks of shit. I can honestly say, I had such high hopes for race relations in this country based on my service. And then the democrats fucked that all up in the name of politics and losing just 1 election to someone they ALL used to suck up to before he decided to run. I can honestly say my heart broke for this country as we all watched it burn to the ground in the name of politics. Never EVER thought I’d see the day that WE as American PEOPLE would let a bunch of gutter trash politicians ruin what we had. It WAS getting better. Now…. It’s just so fucked up.

Dan Duryea played a badass in many a western, he played a great role in this episode of Combat , started scared but came through in the end, he was always one of my favorite actors , as all the actors in this show have become . Combat was one of the greatest shows to ever appear on tv. And it's been many years to show it .

@@StoneShards You're welcome! Glad I could help. It was a great episode and the scene you mention was really good. Pierre Jalbert is one of my favorites on the show and always seems to put in a stellar performance. I just watched No Trumpets no Drums where Cage accidently kills the father of a young French girl (brilliantly portrayed by child actress Andrea Darvi) and I have to admit his performance in this episode brought me to tears!

It's amazing how much your imagination can work for you even when it's in black & white. It's refreshing to not have to see all the blood & gore that you have to watch in the shows & movies nowadays. The actors really had to act just like the singers really had to have talent too back then miss the simplicity of the shows back then they really did a great job of it.

I had to go back to the draft board every two weeks for 4 months and say the same thing about being an only kid and not knowing my dad. I was classified as EVERYTHING. Finally I got classified as 1-H which meant that I would’ve been a home guard on the beaches incase the Vietcong swam to California. Made me change my mind about joining the marines. Made my mom happy. My dad never had much interest in me or my two kids or my first two grandkids. But I’m sure he would’ve been “ really proud and bragging if I was killed in Vietnam 🇻🇳 “. @@dindinprivate3477 ,. Yes! And, the Television Series "Pacific" was adapted from the book, "With the Old Breed." I have the book. It is a good read. It's a first hand account of Eugene Sledges experience fighting with a 60mm mortar platoon in K company, 3rd bn/5th Marines, 1st Marine Div. on Pelileau and Okinawa. The 3/5, is nicknamed Dark Horse. Not The Old Breed. They only fought in 4 battles during WWII, but Sledge, who wrote the book, only participated in the last two.

Watching series again, from beginning again. Reading comments is great, people finding bloopers. Some fantastic. Favs, Rick calling little John Peabody. The actors trailer in the background of an episode when they were walking down the street, best of all the end of "what the bugles blowing for" top of screen watching all those 1960,s cars, driving by in background film was probably expensive on fixed budget, 6 days to film.not much on cutting room floor, retakes not, just roll with it,

Yes it's war they writ, & it's politics they discuss, because they are 'journalists'... But those same wars that undermined poets, had a poet write about the soldiers, " We had shared the den of a gun, Several weeks in a dull smoke-screen, In a valley of liquid mud, With all shapes blurred By liver - blue light of the Sun. " --- Frank Dossetor , Autumn 1944 A poet & soldier !!

Hey lets keep the personal comments off this page, I appreciate being able to watch old classics like Combat ,it's quite simple if you don't like this sort of stuff then don't watch it therefore eliminating the need to post inane, banal & ultimately a waste of everyone's time comments!

You mention about keeping personal comments off this page ,because you enjoy watching the classics , my question is why are you reading the comments. Instead of enjoying the classics, at least the comments are not interrupting the show. But I do agree with you, and people will say crap. That don't understand. And these are actors, and its television, and its not without fault

Astounding how well they move after getting shot up so many times. Not sure how realistic it was to be wounded as many times as they had up to now during this series. In the real world they all would be stateside by now.

It was their duty to attempt to escape. While it might cost them their lives, for every one that escaped, it took 10 nazi's off the line to find them. This meant that more lives would be saved by the escape attempt than lost. In a prison like that, normally everyone was involved with attempting to excape. They wouldnt have left many behind to be killed in their attempt. "Only a fool" would beleive they wouldnt be starved or tortured. In an earlier episode one of the men was tortured to death.

The reason the "reporters" are portrayed in the negative was a reaction to the then current press who forgot their job and became propagandists for communism, particularly in Vietnam!. We still suffer from this mind-control even today. "Combat" was the only War TV show actually broadcast to the troops in Vietnam during the war, something unique, and the "anti-war" KGB financed US left howled about it at the time...
