Thanks so much for such a wonderful video of your adventure. Totally absorbing! One question; I would like to do it camping , is it ok just to show up without pre booking? I like to hike with as little agenda and stay as fluid as time allows. Thank you again 🙏🙏

It is best to reserve in advance as there are many people on the GR20. I'd try to organise as precise as possible and then you can change plan on the go. If you are slower or faster than you planned, you can ask the shelter guards to contact the next shelter to change your date for the pitch. Reserving in advance is also cheaper and you are guaranteed to have your pitch. Without reservation you most probably need to wait until the end of the day before you can pitch your tent, after the others. Have an amazing hike!

Wonderful! How were you able to bring enough food and water in your little backpack???

Hello Alex, thanks for your appreciation. I took only food for 2 days and made new supplies at the shelters. As the trail is extremely technical with a lot of climbing it is best to be as light as possible. I took about 1,5 liters of water with me and I had a water filter with me to collect more on my way.

@@ShantiHikes Good to hear there are stores every 2 days to resupply? BTW, are you going back to finish the VdlP? One day I'd like to do that too!

@@afptoronto1 It is possible to resupply every day as there are enough shelters on the trail. Camping is only allowed close to those shelters. So there is no problem to resupply, but the supply is very limited as the shelters are difficult to reach from the valley. I will definitively finish the VdlP. But there are so many trails I'd like to hike, so I choose mostly by what is most possible at the moment. I'm not sure if I'll finish it this year as I'd love to do the Kungsleden in Sweden or may be go to Scottland. And there are some trails in the French Alps that are definitively on my bucket list, like f.ex. Queyras. :)

@@ShantiHikes Thanks for the information! One last question: Can you tell me a little about your average daily expenses? How much did it cost (approx) to resupply everyday? How much did the trip (minus travel to Corsica) cost? Love your channel man!

@@afptoronto1 As camping is only allowed/possible close to the shelters, there is a fee of 9 € / night if you reserve in advance. Reservations can easily be modified if you need to adapt your plans during your hike. This price includes a shower (often very basic... cold). You can have dinner and socialize at the shelter if you don't want to cook for yourself. This will cost arount 15-18 € if I remember well. They can also prepare something to pick up for breakfast at an additional fee. Beside of that you can buy a couple of things (freeze dried meals, Canistrelli and sausage from Corsica) in the shop. But here also it the offer will be very limited and very basic. I didn't calculate what the total cost of the hike was, but it was not expensive. But, beware that Corisca is very expensive when it comes to all other places (cities), before or after the hike. I would also advise to bring a water filter. I filtered all my water, even the water at the small sources close to the shelters. It was very hot and dry in summer and after heavy rain falls one day, the water of the sources has been polluted the day after. A lot of people got sick after drinking water the following day, although the water is usually very good. I had direct flights from Luxembourg, so I have spent about 300 € for the flights. I hope this helps. Do you plan to hike the GR20 this year?
