As a toyota technician who has rebuilt this engine, check the valve cover gaskets! Ive seen sealant over applied and coming into contact with the camshaft lobes.

Just picked up a ‘23 BRZ, will certainly do a 1000 mile break in oil change as you mentioned. Couldn’t imagine waiting until 7k miles 😬

This guy messaged me this on my personal facebook first Imagine being constantly bombarded with peoples "2 cents," hateful comments, and asking for free help everyday - in my personal inboxes no less! Our shop is in the heart of the Bay Area - meaning one of the highest cost of living areas in the country. While I am running a service based business in a historically extremely competitive and low profit field (ps I do it for the culture and my community) So here I am on a Saturday (shop is supposed to be closed), after finishing a customer car because I cannot keep up with expenses and payroll, writing out this KZbin comment hoping I'll feel better after writing this out. TLDR: Its comments like these in my personal inbox that make me want to close up shop and get a regular paycheck job

@@CMAutohaus Here is the way i see it, if you make these video's, great and thank you. If you don't have time to respond to the hundreds of comments or questions coming your way, then disable the comment section. People are going to watch and they are going to comment or question something and they are expecting an answer. When i watch a KZbin video and i have a question or comment, i DO expect a response because thats me. But before i make my comment or question, i scroll down and check to see if YOU the person who put up the video ever responds to ANY comments or questons, if they do, then i proceed, if not, i just move on to the next video.

I'm interested in this car. But, will this issue go away after changing the oil multiple times thought the life of the car? This, I think, will allow all of the break-in metal shards to go out, right?
@CMAutohaus
@CMAutohaus 7 ай бұрын
No. As seen in this video, RTV will remain trapped in the oil pick up and create a "birds nest" kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmHXm4OkfLZlrZY

Late comment but I own a '16 FRS with 89k miles and I recently had a cam carrier oil leak. Car is at a local shop being fixed under warranty but Im paranoid about how they're going to reseal everything; they need to pull the motor out too. The RTV issues w the second gen kinda make me concerned about if my first gen has similar issues. Also didn't know you were in the Bay Area, would definitely bring my car over in the future for small maintenance or installs

I have a 22 model with 3.5K miles (no commute). Had my oil changed twice so far due to time, not mileage. How important is changing twice a year? I ask because I’ve seen people say it can go a year. While that may be possible, I don’t want that to mess with warranty in case something arises in the future.
@CMAutohaus
@CMAutohaus Жыл бұрын
I'd keep the 5k miles or 5 months to play it safe. Engine oil can also harbor contaminants such as acids and moisture which can damage the engine if left to sit.

Late 2023 car. The trend I've been seeing is that some late 2023's we will see big strings of excess RTV in the oil we drained out (as seen in the cell phone video) but the oil filter will be clean.

So does NOBODY know where this RTV is coming from ??? Why not just yank the motor out, remove the timing chain covers and re-apply the RTV properly and do the same for the oil pan .... That should stop the RTV issue.
