My first watched WC was in 1982, I was 6 years old and my national team of Poland won the third place. Three Boniek's goals against Belgium, big performance in the match with Peru, eliminating the Soviet team (just half a year after establishing of the communist military junta that introduced martial law in Poland and destroyed the Solidarity movement)... Beautiful memories that I will save 'till the end of my life :-) But I think WC 1986 was better tournament than the Spanish one.

Toni Schumacher was who I modeled myself after when I was playing. There was some classically great Golden era Goalkeepers. Jean Marie Pfaff, Peter Shilton, Schmacher, and Nery Pumpido. I learned so much from watching the greats. About the second block by Schumacher, if you notice he totally psyched out the kicker; he kept looking to his left and made the kicker change directions and kick to the right which he blocked.

México has the chance of a lifetime here since Germany was down to 10 men for a large portion of the game. Berthold got the red card, but the Mexican defender should have been sent off as well. He was on a yellow and clearly stopped a promising counter attack here by fouling Berthold who then lashes out. The Germans still made it through though, which is quite impressive. Also doesn't reflect well on Mexico not to have taken advantage of that.

Germany played so poorly in this entire World Cup. I don't know if it was the altitude, the temperatures or the old team they had. Probably a combination of those. In every game they were lousy and just barely did enough. But then they showed up in the semi and really played France against the wall. Nobody had expected that. In the final they came back from 2-0 down due to a goalkeeping error early on and only lost bc they opened up bc they were trying to go for the win. Overall the team was old and I thought Rummenigge and Dieter Hoeness were a complete waste up front. They had younger strikers in the Bundesliga who could have taken their spots, but Beckenbauer had close ties to these guys from Bayern.

Totalmente en desacuerdo, en ese momento la liga mexicana era de baja calidad, no teníamos jugadores en Europa, solo Hugo Sánchez. Aparentemente se compitió de tú a tú con una selección como la alemana debido a que el mundial se jugó en México y el clima ese día fundió a los alemanes. Si ese partido se juega en otro país Alemania nos gana fácil, Alemania jugó 3 finales del mundo consecutivas en esa década, 2 las perdió 82, 86 y en 90 por fin alzó la copa. La diferencia de niveles era abismal.

No se supo aprovechar que jugaron contra 10, Hugo Sánchez se incorporó tarde a la selección, si bien muchos echan la culpa a Aguirre de robarle el cabezazo (con Hugo era 80% gol) también el culpable es el técnico que no supo incorporar el equipo (comparen con Argentina que tenía más de 1 mes enclaustrado y se entendían ya bien jugadores en Europa y América).

Tal cual. Los mexicanos se sintieron derrotados antes de tirarlos. Porque solo había "plan A" que era ganarlo en tiempo regular y no pudieron apesar de las chances que generaron porque jugaron bien. Por otro lado, salvo Negrete(que acertó)y Quirarte(que falló), ninguno era cobrador. Los tiradores en condiciones normales debieron ser 1.Tomás Boy(salió lesionado) 5. Hugo Sánchez(salió lesionado) 4. Javier Aguirre(expulsado) Para un equipo con tan poca experiencia eso fue letal. Además, la ventaja de la localía se les reviró y se terminó convirtiendo en presión.
