I got 9 from the first and 8 from the second, so what I've learnt from this is that 1. my short term memory isn't great, 2. I remember you saying the words better than just trying to memorise them from seeing it, and 3. my long term memory is great because I knew exactly which experiment this was and purposely knew what words to avoid lol

The movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is about a man who erases a failed relationship by carefully remembering it while his memory is set to not store anything. When we remember things we have to re-store them after we remember. This read-erase-writeback process has in it our own brains altering our memories which are then written back like they actually happened. Memory has always been terrible at specifics. We remember big things and big emotions but the details are all sanded away pretty much immediately, and they get worse every time you remember them.
@splodeyferretАй бұрын
That might be how it works in that movie but I don't believe it actually works that way. I think there is a neuron pathway which your memory retrieval system uses to get a memory, and after remembering a memory it might try to store it again, thereby strengthening the memory (but also maybe altering it), but I don't think retrieving the memory erases it. Don't take my or OP's word for it though, do your own research.
@sen782611 күн бұрын
@@splodeyferret I agree, this sounds like bs. Why would you need to remove a memory to remember it? It is probably altered by how you remember it, but it's not erased if you forget the remembering of it. Imagine when you black out, you do things that you don't remember later. Do you also forget everything that you recalled throughout the duration of the blackout? You probably called your ex ten times that night, and didn't remember in the morning. Did you also forget your ex?

I pulled out my google docs for this actually, instead of typing it in the comments XD I remember waking up in a void for my first memory, and experiencing strange things, then waking up into my body. I was born exactly in the year 2000. All the New CD Laser Disc Technology that came out to replace it all and all of the movies across the early 2000's All the old tv shows from back then. My mom and her collection of laser disc films from her time. The old box computers and the early day internet, as well as the flash games website pages that no longer work due to flash stopping with update and new better systems started getting developed. I got an archive of all of the flash games as well. I also got all of alan watts 80-some lectures, which i listened to all 3 times over during my last 3 years of highschool. I cant remember every little thing, but i know i have a really good memory. And i remember at my old school from last year, it was so much more fun and a lot better than the one i was having that year. And i was kidna sadden by it. The only thing that helped make up the whole thing, was 1 activity. The jelly bean jar counting game. I remember after noticing that about about 15 minutes into the school Halloween party, I decided to sit down and only do jsut that the whole time XD There were 5 or 6 massive jars. And I remember wining exactly 4, because i have 3 other siblings. So I gave 1 to each of my siblings, and had jsut the 1 for me. I remember all of the kids eyes goign wide and everyone being amazed, it was really simple to do, everyone was just busy dancing or distracted. I would of gotten the other ones if i didnt count so carefully and took so much time on the other 4. If I knew they were there at the start of the party, and i didnt get distracted by that 1 activity, i would of had enough time to count the rest and have more candy XD But im actualyl happy it worked out as it did. It was perfectly enough for jsut myself and my brother and sisters~ Xp

I actually got more words on the first list then the second, but I think the way my mind tried to game the system was to look at each row of words on the screen and find some connection between them for reference, and I think the first set was much easier for that then the second. Sour nice Candy, nice sourpatch kids, good bitter chocolate, good dark chocolate. etc I think associating words to a more tangible idea or real world concept just makes them stick alot better for me then a bunch of random terms, but I didnt make many connections in the 2ed list.

Weirdly enough, I was worse at the second time. I didn't have any false memories at that either. On the other hand, I actually remembered "happy" on the first list as well as "sweet". Funny how that works. 11 and 7 words, counting the 2 fake ones.

second comment, I will repeat some stuff, just in case if you haven't seen the first: I am self-diagnosed as plural, I am unsure if it's DID (you can be plural without DID), either way, it's not clinically diagnosed. However, i definitely have some amnesia when switching alters. I did this once before with a different alter, and this is to see how much i remember from the last test, and how my memory differs. I ended up not doing this the next day, cause I switched early, so no test on the ADHD hypothesis. current alter: ? yep, that's my name: "?". I actually haven't fronted, like, at all, so this was a fun thing to do first thing. remember test: here I tried to remember my answers from the last test, not what was actually on the list. group 1: 5/8 group 2: 7/8 as you can see, I still remember some, but I forget some. For context, this was done in the same day, with the stuff I'm trying to remember having already been given strategies to remember them, since I remembered them before. I think forgetting anything is not normal, especially since I remembered them all (except one) right before I switched. the video again: group 1: 9 with 6 old and 3 new group 2: 10 with 5 old, 5 new, and one wrong (fire) I overall did worse if you only count new words, but I think that's because I was looking for new words, aka the words that were hard to remember. If you count all, I did better, but also cheated because I got like 1 and 3/4's of a look instead of just 1. conclusion: I probably have some amnesia, but not full, which is one of the reasons why I don't say that I have DID. I tend to remember general details, but the nitty-gritty is hard to remember.

8 and 15 with no fakes. The way I did it was as you were listing words I was forming word-groups in my head. If you said a word and it fit one of those groups it just went into that group. The words I missed didn't seem to fit into groups as you were listing them. Then when writing words I was just writing the grouped words. I guess it makes sense that the test was based on a word cloud. I think what I did was essentially split the cloud into smaller clouds and remembered groups of like 3 or 4 at a time. The interesting thing is I somehow did a perfect recollection on the second one, but managed just half on the first. I also wonder what would happen if the list was unrelated words since my method wouldn't have worked than.

Also, about memory with going from soup to not, I remembered all words except one in the first group after coalescing, which seems normal for the amount of time that has passed. So I had no memory loss, as I expected. first group: 8, no extra word second group: 8, including the extra word, which I was doubtful of being in the set. however that second set included a different word that wasn't in the set (fearful), which i was confident in. Most likely from hate -> hatred being applied to fear. honestly, I blame ADHD for my performance (actually diagnosed), I'm not on my meds today and therefore lost focus and didn't memorize each word carefully. we'll see my performance after switching, which will include me trying to remember the words before watching the video. Might, wait until tomorrow, to also test the ADHD hypothesis, since I will be on meds tomorrow.

7 on test one and 9 on the second.. I didnt get Sour on the first one but Anger was written on the second for sure after a bit of a struggle to remember more. Fun :P

Yeah. That's how the corrupted memory starts. At first you write it down being unsure, but the longer you sit with it, the more certain you become. Crazy right? -Brian

9 and 8. Didn't say sweet for first list but added anger and sad into second list.

I got 7 on the first one and 4 on the other. I was trying to focus too much on remembering them, but all the ones i wrote down i got right

9/12, then 6/12 - and first puzzle I only missed the fourth "row". Second puzzle was in chaos order. It think my brain was still engaged with the first exercise when I tried the second. But no word hallucinations!

9 on the first, I did have sweet 8 on the second, I did not have angry

I don't have 90 seconds, I have as long as I want, I have a pause and rewind button!

You guys are tricky- I thought at the end we were going to be asked about the red sign on the wall beside you. 9 words 1st time, 8 words on the 2nd and yes, sweet and anger were among them. #human

Yay!!! I love that it worked! That’s a nice happenstance that you were on-guard for a trick like that.

first one I got 9, second one I got 5, I was already passed my limit for memorization. I didn't have anger or sweet.
@CryowattАй бұрын
I got sweet but not anger. 9 on the first, only 7 on the second. Both of them I stalled out at about 7.
@ModernRogueАй бұрын
that's why I usually do this with two tries... double the chances it works!

Got 10 the first one and 7 the second round and i legit thought for a moment that cake was a false memory that i just wrote down but never got sweet or anger. But i did figure out that each list had words had connections to each other which helped me remember those words
@ModernRogueАй бұрын
The original study gave 3 minutes, which increased the chances of false memories

@@ModernRogue well if you are sitting in a blank room (wecause we all know the rooms such studies are conducted in), "forced" to stare for 3 minutes at a piece of paper and a list of words that begins with sour and then goes on with candy, pie and cake i can see how this might induce a false memory of sweet. at least if you are willing to swindle yourself and write down things that you are not 100% sure were there and believe that more equals better. on the internet the chances of people going 30sec of hard thinking after writing the last one down they are really sure of and then go " fuck it there aint coming more from my memory" and look at the video proposals are way bigger.

@@ModernRogue will definitely be trying this on my friend today. Gotta love how our brains are jerks to us sometimes

And the wild part is, the moment you write down that half-memory, you begin rewriting your long term memory. Soon you’re certain it’s right.
