I suffer from neuropathic pain in my right leg after being hit by a taxi NYE 2008. I was put into an induced coma for a month, had another operation and after being transferred to Cardiology for a month. I spent 4mths in hospital and all of Eastern Health in the city I reside had never seen a CK level as high as mine. It was 203,000! They found a pulse in my foot as I only had a 15minute window by the time the paramedics had finally been told by my husband that it wasn’t a corky as he’d played Aussie Rules for 20yrs. Those paramedics lost their license as our precious girl would of ended up motherless at 12yrs. I get the sensation of the burning particularly for the first 12mths and it felt like my foot was stuck to a pot belly stove and the pain was worse than a gruelling 40hr labour followed by an emergency caesarean. I completely understand. 🕊🇦🇺

I also have severe neuropathy in both legs. As I write I’m waiting for my pain medication to start working. My days are controlled by my pain and weather. There are times the pain is so intense it’s hard to continue. Additionally the only medication that works is highly regulated and you are only allowed 30 days. Government regulations only allow for refills on the day after you run out. I’m glad there are others like me to help each other.

I completely relate 100%. I was diagnosed with AA about 8 years ago. I dove into pain killers and alcohol as an escape. The mother of my daughter left me as soon as I was diagnosed and could no longer work. Getting diagnosed and losing my family devastated me. My wife was going through her 2nd diagnoses of breast cancer at the same time. God brought us together to save each other. She had both her breast removed and failed reconstruction after another. We leaned on each other and made it through. I've now been clean and sober for over 6 years and I owe my life to my wife because she helped me realize that I needed help. She was just diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer about 2 years ago. Our story is very similar to y'alls. I would love to tell you more if you care to hear our entire story. It's one for the books just like your's. God Bless you both.

as a former nurse with several sons in the medical field also thank u both but esp dan for answering the question about intimacy and sexual relations as well as u did without getting graphic or crossing the personal line. Nearly every person wonders if someone who has a spinal cord injury can still have sexual relations but most ppl have no one to ask or are afraid to ask someone they know. U no doubt have helped a multitude of ppl with this info who could be struggling themselves with any type of ED issues and /or spinal cord issues and will make them feel not so alone in their struggle. its not exactly a question u can ask someone in a wheelchair like hey bro hows your sex life can u still get it up? type thing to someone u know. u are not only an inspiration in how u cope on a daily basis from the chair and still are a hard worker, father, husband, partner etc. but now u have helped many many ppl know its ok to be more open about their intimate struggles as well and seek medical help and hopefully not be so embarrassed about asking for help. its a normal healthy function we all desire and u sharing made it seem less scary for many i'm sure. so thank u so much for being willing to be open enough to share that personal detail with your followers.

I had surgery twice for a broken neck which I still feel intense pain, I rub in BIOFREEZE cream , wear my surgical collar and wait to see of it helps, but when it does not I take a break through medication which helps relax my muscles and with rest I improve. I feel bearable painful discomfort most of the time. I admire your strength, loving your family, enduring horrible intense pain, but still carrying on working and finding new creative ways to make it all work for the good of your lovely family. YOU ARE MY HERO. Your wife has been through a very immense challenge. It hurts her to see the man she loves suffer with excruciating pain. YOU ARE A HERO TO EVERY PERSON WHO REALIZES HOW YOU HANDLE YOUR FAMILY AND LIFE WHILE DEALING WITH THE PAIN. As far as sex goes, you have a family and there are ways to have intimate moments. Just feeling your partner touching you with a hug or kiss brings such happiness into your lives. I miss my sweet man just watching him cut the grass or working on the vehicles plus helping me a very wee bit around the home, but I miss sitting on his lap and cuddling in bed. Happy wife = happy life. GOD bless you and your family.

You’re amazing ❤. I’m a mom of 7 and homeschooling. About the laundry: a good friend( with also 7 children) told me about 10 years ago that they have taught their older children to do their own laundry and also are in charge to keep one room in the house clean. This had helped me and the kids immensely. They know how to do their laundry and at the same time take a big load of my shoulders. I was so thankful for this advice. Also we have teams doing the chores around the dining table like setting the table cleaning the table and doing the dishes. I pray that you find this helpful and get some relief. God is good and awesome and you are amazing!! God bless you and touch you with His healing hands

To be so openly honest&realistic about everyday stuff is how other people going through difficult challenges find inner strength to help get them through. Faith is a big part of who you both are&you have accepted the challenges set before you with love in your hearts. At times we can't see what the lessons are or why things happen but there's always a bigger plan that God has for us&maybe at that moment we're just not ready to see. Lessons are learnt in many different ways but there always taught with love. Thank you for all the inspiration, love&faith you share with us all. May God continue to bless the Kotter family.

Thank you for sharing answers so many have. The intimacy part is real thing a lot of people ask and although personal, it is helpful to others who may be in same situation or even just letting others know you are living your best life together. Sex isn't everything in a loving marriage and many people are very happy without intercourse-type sex. The most important aspect of happiness is love and togetherness, you are so blessed.

As a Retired Nurse with early onset Parkinson's and HSP your videos have really inspired me. You are all such a loving family. A family that Prays together stays together. I felt like my world was torn apart the day my Doctor told me I had to go on SSDI. I was deeply depressed for about a year. If it weren't for my husband's support and encouragement, I would have lost my will to live. I turned to God and finally realized that he was in control. Instead of focusing on the things I can't do, I focus on the things I can do. I have other health issues caused by my diseases but as you mentioned, if I had to toss all my problems in to a hat with everyone else's, I would definitely pull back my own. The thing I was failing to recognize was that there's always someone out there that is worse off than I am.

This was a beautiful interview. You both gave a lot of info that other people wouldn’t and I thank you for that. I said in one of my other comments as a sibling to a brother that had polio there was most of the time I didn’t think of my brother as handicapped. He just did what he could and if he needed help he would ask like any other person. He had so many friends and they were like brothers. They didn’t let him miss out on anything. If they went hunting he went too. They would carry Danny. He went fishing and to concerts he went everywhere. He didn’t miss out on anything. Now he’s passed away and I miss him daily. His body was a mess crooked as a snake and his leg didn’t work well but it didn’t slow him down.

I remember the talks that me and my late husband would have after we were told that his brain cancer was terminal and he only had two years to live. He would tell me that he wanted me to go on with my life and find someone to love me and take care of me. That’s all he wanted for me. He was scared I would put walls up around myself and become depressed and shut my support people out. Which is what I did later on. But I went to grief counseling and found out that it was all part of the grieving process. I say all that to say I can see the intensity in the eyes of both of you. That comes from the deepest love that you have for one another. I see it and I feel it. That love is as deep as it is bc of what you’ve shared. From the very worst to the very best of times. Which is exactly what my husband and I had. We talked about death which we knew was coming for him. We both had peace bc we knew one day we would be together in heaven.

These are the kind of videos that are needed in these perilous days. We are of Baptist faith, and we should all strive to be a blessing to those around us. I don't understand Dan's pain, but I have had 4 spinal surgeries and will probably have to make that decision again in the future because I have Scoliosis and nerve damage caused from the first spinal fusion. I understand a small part of his pain, with Scoliosis it feels like your muscles and nerves are being ripped from the bone. I don't take any narcotics for it either. I’ve never been the same I’m constantly in pain and when it happened my son was 1 and all he wanted to do was climb on daddy in his wheelchair. I couldn’t tell him no and just endured the pain. He’s my world. He keeps me going and he’s now 8 years old and an amazing baseball player, a natural like his dad. And I know what it takes to get him to each level of baseball. Respect to you sir

Sometimes people are so upright, that they didn't know they are hurting ones person, don't be affected because what you are doing in day to day life others can't do that. As I told you earlier you are awesome and the love and caring you showed to your wife and children can't be compare to those people who can walk. 💖💖💖 I congratulate your children 😘 I admire your wife. Keep your love guys keep going

Dan, you are both so very blessed with all that you indure but God has blessed you with the most important thing, love the love between the two of you gets you through all of the hard times you're very very blessed I live with chronic pain and sometimes it's just awful and last year my doctor of 30 years retired and there's not many people that will prescribe medicine to manage your pain because of the epidemic so it becomes a lonely painful existence, I know I have the Lord but the reality is sometimes it's just very difficult you're both very special and very blessed God bless you

Being alone and dealing with AA is a daunting task. When my husband passed in 2017 I had to start doing everything on my own which caused my disease to progress and made things so much worse. My husband was my caregiver and when I lost him I lost so much in my life. My family lives 300 miles away and I’m not able to see them very much bc it’s a difficult trip on my Son after his work accident. A crane lost its load and the whole weight fell in his foot which had to be taken off. After 21 or so surgeries his foot was never fixed properly. So his back, hips, and knees take the brunt of the stress from trying to walk. Especially without his prosthesis. I’m so impressed with how you’re handling your injury. I hope one day I’ll be able to accept this mess I’ve got and try to move forward in my life. God’s blessings to you all. ❤🙏🙏❤️

I just stumbled across your channel this morning, and you guys really have something special! My wife Carrie and I have strong faith in God as well, and that helps us tremendously to work through our struggles. My wife miraculously survived her mother's abortion attempt on her life 54 years ago this month, so she has dealt with various disabilities all of her life. She was born with a facial deformity, and nobody had even asked her out before we met on facebook. Her facial issue combined with her testimony is what led me to her, so I admire your wife for choosing you with your disability and being such living support for you. My faith walk led me to Messianic Judaism (Jews who believe that Yeshua (Jesus in Hebrew ) is the promised Messiah for both Jew and Gentile (I come from a not very observant Lutheran background). Anyway, you have my subscription! God bless you and yours in the Wonderfully Beautiful and All-Powerful name of Yeshua!!!

Years ago, a single mother of 6 yr old ( now 49 ) bought a home but no money left for a stove. You can cook hot dogs/ top ramen etc in a Mr. Coffee. A customer ( i was grocery clerk) a lawyer, offered to view 1 yr warranty on home! After home visit a few weeks later a stove delivered to my home. Told driver not here, must be wrong address can not afford. Said receipt says paid in full. Long story short, this lawyer gave and said no child needs to eat out of Mr Coffee. I said It will take me years to pay back and he responded, you do not pay me with money. You pay me by in future helping someone in need. He was LDS and did not care I was agnostic. You put a LDS lawyer in same room with an agnostic you can only imagine conversations but we are best friends to this day! The reason I mention this experience is when you said you were LDS it made clearer your empathy and desire to help others, pass it on through many avenues since your accident

First of all I want to say Amen! And thank you God for this perfect imperfect family! One thing I was taught was the only stupid question is the one that's not asked, am I right? Yes there may have been sensitive subject matter as I will describe it, but it does answer so many questions that have been on my mind and as well as many others! I would also like to let you know, that both of you together inspire me! And I do understand both of you, because as I've mentioned to you before I became paralyzed after having my third child due to MS. Watching your normal unnormal family is a therapy for me! The physical and mental struggles are completely real and a lot of people don't understand, watching y'all live through the pain and suffering just to be normal lets me know that I'm not alone and encourages me to take pleasure in the simple things I can do, such as being able to use the bathroom or try to wash myself off, I thank God for the small accomplishments that people take for granted and sorry I'm crying.. knowing that the small things I can do will build me to be a better me! It will just take me more time, but after watching y'all I know that I can do it ☺️ with time! I want to take time to thank you for sharing your lives with us and say that every little thing you do that I see is much appreciated! Love and blessings to y'all and everybody else out there! Keep making videos, you said if you could just help 1 person that worth the struggles and pain you go through, it is not in vain, this one person right here is being helped every video I watch!🙏😘🤢😭😜🥰🙏 Thank y'all so much!

@@TheWheelchairDad I said it once I'll say it again and you'll probably read it in more messages, from the bottom of my heart ❤️ I really appreciate every video or short that I watch by you guys and your family! You are my inspiration, motivation, therapy and I almost feel like you are family to me because you actually get me and the things you do get to me! I can't tell you how many times I have cried watching these another videos and shorts that i watch. I want to thank you for taking the time to read my comment and to actually comment back to me, it means the world to me that somebody that shares the same problems that I do take the time to even acknowledge me, really appreciate that part! I'm not sure if you're on any type of MS medication, but I know I've got to get an infusion every 28 days to be able to do the little things that I can.. it's almost like chemo.. but I am happy to say through my pain and suffering that I had over 20 lesions and now I'm down to seven! Through the grace of God and my neurologist and getting my infusion every 28 days I am slowly getting better! I hope to be able to accomplish the things that I used to do! I love watching y'all, keep posting, I need it and I think others do too! I want to thank you and Dan so much, I give you big hugs if I could! As always love and blessings to your family!

You two have such a beautiful relationship and I'm happy that you can still enjoy ALL aspects of love and "togetherness" 😊 It was courageous for you both to answer the sex questions! It was very informative, and I'm pretty sure that at least 95% of your viewers really wanted to know. It was also brave of you to show what a normal household looks like when you have a lot of kids and responsibilities! As for that, could the young women/young men of your church come and help you once a week perhaps? I don't know if you guys have a GoFundMe set up, but I'd imagine that you could use some of the funds to hire a cleaning service to come on a regular basis. You guys deserve the help!

Biggest thing you are not alone! Not the only one struggling with some of the same things! Amazing also when Dr's tell you need to learn to live with the pain. Want to slug them. When a son tells me if I just make mind it doesn't hurt it won't hurt anymore. They don't understand nerve pain is a whole different level of pain? Having disc blow the damage that does. Having the internet getting to see others on line their stories. Don't feel so isolated. Letting us into your lives, thank you both. May God bless you both!
