I love how the original inspiration for this movie was that the director was drinking at a bar, in Australia I believe, and had gotten bitten by a mosquito and he said that he hoped it got wasted and crashed into the wall. That somehow turned into a thought for a vampire movie where the only defense was to get drunk so the vampires would get poisoned and then that somehow turned into space mollusks. Also, I believe the 5 protrusions around it's mouth are it's eyes. Kind of like how clams have light sensing spots around it's shell opening. Personally, I felt this movie captured the feel of the first Tremors movie. Both movies feel like they could be in the same franchise. Love them both.

Love this movie. Jolly good fun. I reckon the reason the characters being so clueless when it comes to the alien shenanigans is due to a combination of factors. 1: Aliens do not usually go to Ireland, for obvious reasons. 2: Irishmen are severely desensitised not only to alcohol, but mortal danger in general. 3: Between the Faeries, the Rot, the Aliens and the English, Ireland has its hands full at any given moment. You can only care about so much at a time.

At 10 minutes, you said a blood alcohol level of .2 would mean her blood was 20% alcohol. Just a heads up, it'd actually only be 0.2% alcohol by volume. 20% would basically mean your blood itself was liquor.
@nicohoffmann6218
@nicohoffmann6218 2 жыл бұрын
And this should be wrong. Alcohol content of blood usually is not measured in percent it's measured in thousandth, therefore 0.2 means 0.02% of the blood is alcohol. Which is usually reached after one beer. Therefore a bit unrealistic depiction in this movie. 0.2% alcohol in blood means totally hammered, with blackouts, 0.4% alcohol in blood usually means death.

@@fbi6179 ironically, the word "pidgin" has a lot to do with grammar and language. A "pidgin" is a sort of amalgam of multiple languages to form a simplified communication system that's used to bridge language barriers between two populations, usually a mix of a native and non native language (typically English). Not to be confused with a "creole" language which is a naturalized language that forms over time as a mix of multiple languages, and becomes a dominant language of its own in a region, such as Jamaican Patois. A pigeon is a bird. Also, Google is free.

Ah, I remember this one! A great monster movie horror comedy in my opinion. It's like a nice blend of Irish charm, Shawn of the Dead and deep sea horror rolled into one. EDIT: Also, I love the monster design. Not only is the offspring variant way different and interesting, but the adult has limbs out the wazoo and looks like a runaway pile of octopi. The eyes of every type of the Grabber aliens also remind me of aquatic creatures; eye stalks with very primitive eyes. Mollusks and other shelled critters like sea snails have very similar eyes, which is pretty awesome.

I remember reading about that story as well, apparently the octopus was able to memorize the guards Patrol routines and waited for an opening to crawl out of the tank and go to the one across from it and snag some tasty fish. Then it just went and crawled back into its own tank. But the fact that it was smart enough to memorize the guards patrols hints at an alarmingly intelligent being. Also, there was another story about an octopus that was getting annoyed at this bright spotlight that was shining into its tank enclosure, so somehow it was able to open its lid and squirt water out of the tank at the light to blow it out. Maintenance kept replacing the bulb wondering what was going on, until they put up a security camera and rewatched the footage, and realized it was the freaking octopus burning out the light with water!

Hey Roanoke, it was the Giant Pacific Octopus in the San Diego Sea World aquarium. The workers set up a camera to track what was happening to the rare fish in the tanks and when they was the octopus open it’s tank, scuttle over to a near by crab tank and enjoy a great dinner and go home, did they throw two padlocks and a steel bar over the octopus’ tank. It’s still in the aquarium to this day.

Birds do the "wait for fermenting" thing too. The chokecherry fruit will ferment after it freezes overnight. The birds will eat the fruit still on the tree and will get drunk. They are very docile and sometimes fly erratically (often crashing into buildingsor trees) or becoming easy prey to the local cats.

Id say this thing came from a large mass of ice partially filled with water and a chamber of air. this would be a small segment of crust from the ice barrier on Enceladus. The creature goes to the trapped air and dry-ish land in the cave to lay the eggs, and as Enceladus moves around Saturn the tide in these cave would rise and fall, wetting the eggs. As for how they got there, there are MASSIVE ejections of ice and steam and water that rupture out of enceladus constantly, so... yea. any water left at the bottom of the cave (think of this as a moonpool) would freeze solid, preserving anything inside it. And for the lack of eyes, Enceladus is an ice shell moon of saturn. no light ever reaches the interior ocean.

@@stavkous4963 yep. That is why if you are ever found by police and they give you a breathalyzer test senses .25 or higher they are going to take you to the drunk tank they're going to take you to the hospital. Like they are legally required to take you to the hospital because if not they can be held liable for when you die from poisoning yourself. For some reason it's also not uncommon that people who go out when it's snowing drunk and just hug a tree trying to stay warm also have a very high blood alcohol level. So yeah try to keep it below .15 because after that your chances of either crapping your pants, peeing your pants, or just puking everywhere or any combination of those three go up exponentially.

While not the only species to enjoy getting tipsy, we are the ones who take the steps to expediate the process so its literally on tap. For better or worse, this is one of our legacies and its not quite as terrible as a bunch of our other fawk ups so, uhm, cheers? Edit: If the thing just live son blood and water, why leave the ocean for dry land unless I missed something about completely devastated local ocean life.
