In my opinion I think the “serpent” was Lucifer while he still had the “glow” from being close to god which would make it easier for him to deceive them. ( in the Bible god does ask Lucifer where he have been so that shows he still had access to heaven up until a certain point and he was able to come and go). Another definition for serpent is “a sly or treacherous person, especially one who exploits a position of trust in order to betray it”. To be even more clear the definition of treacherous means “guilty of or involving betrayal or deception”. To speculate further after they took part in biting the fruit the punishments between the women and serpent could that be referring the giants and nephilim? Snake... נחש is pronounced Nachash, with a ח and not with a K Nakash. it means - a snake, but also comes from the root of "guessing" or "someone who knows the future".
