Hi Grace, just wanted to say I was watching one of your videos from 3 years ago and this video shows your English pronunciation has really improved since then! (and it was already pretty good!) I think it’s great that you teach Chinese so well and continue to improve your own English.

Hello Grace. I'm sorry for an unrelated comment but today is exactly 1 year since I've started learning Mandarin Chinese. Living in Poland, Europe, I'm as far from native Chinese speakers as possible, there is also little probability I'll ever need Chinese in my work - but I don't regret choosing it and studying it all the way. I've been learning so much about not only the language itself, but the culture, people, history. Learning Mandarin opened a whole new, fascinating world for me. I haven't missed a single day since 25th August 2021, and although I have my downs, feeling of getting stuck, frustration and not as much progress as I'd like to, I'm not going to stop. And here I take my chance to say a huge thank you to you for all you do for people like me. I already said it under one of your vids, but I'll just restate it - I wish I had met you and your channel much, much earlier, just when I was starting my adventure. Luckily the future is ahead and I'm happy to be part of your learning community. With you, the huge task of learning Mandarin Chinese, becomes a pleasant, rewarding, fascinating journey. I just wish I could talk to native speakers one day - but who knows, right? Thank you, 谢谢 Grace, I wish you all the best! Luke

I started with learning chinese as my new years goal for 2024. Videos like that will help me in the future, of course a bit too early for a 2w learner. A few questions though: - When the phrases were shown in real life, like the couple washing dishes, she seemed to repeat the phrase multiple times. Why does she do that? - When grace introduces new phrases she speaks them very slowly and this way I am able to get the tone of the vocals nearly right, but the second time she speaks much faster, probably how it's spoken in real life, and that way it seems for me that some words are reduced to mearly a millisecond sound (like YI), it's so fast that without knowing that it should be YI, you could easily miss it, right? Also the Tones like `, ´, ... are very hard to get. Does a native speaker get the meaning and tone more from the overall context?

LOL at the skits. Thanks for sharing these phrases! I actually just heard something similar to the last one in a drama today. But the character said 說話算話. Is it any different from 說到做到?
@GraceMandarinChinese2 жыл бұрын
They have similar meanings, but 說話算話 is more often used to ask someone to keep their word (and usually is for your own benefit). For example, A: 我明天會還你錢的。(I'll return your money tomorrow.) B: 你最好說話算話。(You had better keep your word.)

I'm not Grace, but I suggest the said person wouldn't be taken seriously, it's like if you learned international phonetic symbols ænd tɔːkt tuː ˈpiːpl laɪk ðɪs. Mind you, you do use pinyin to type on a computer or a smartphone, but you have to recognise the exact character you want, as there are hundreds of nis, haos, tas etc
