I started solo hiking when I was 14. Like you , I had nobody who shared the same interest or had the time. I progressed to travelling abroad on my own in my 30's and I have never really looked back. My friends think I am a) brave or b) a bit mad but I don't care, its fun and I love being able to please myself. I am now nearly 64 and planning my next solo trip to do the Wainwright coast to coast. Wish me luck ! x

Good to have you back. Living spontaneous and seeking discomfort it’s the best thing for internal peace. My pals think it’s crazy as I’ve just come back from San Fran Tahoe Yosemite and Disney all on my own. Had an idea and the time off then booked it. Keep living spontaneously x

I love my own company and you are correct, if you have someone with you then you don't have sole control over your adventure and this is so important

There's not much that can compete with the intimacy and connection to the land you feel when adventuring alone. I've been doing mini solo adventures around the UK for years, many outstanding spots, the land is truly magical.. Although I've pondered if I ever manage to find some like-minded souls, perhaps it could be even better :)

Some great advice there Grace. Thank you so much. You've certainly inspired me, and I find that a great way to avoid feeling alone is to go to a destination where one can meet people with a common interest, e.g. go somewhere to attend a specific event, or maybe follow one's favourite band on tour. Another idea is to book an Airbnb in a host's home (or Couchsurfing) so that there will be someone to meet and talk with at the destination.

Great tips Grace. I think the luxury/comfort side of things is a big thing. A beer at the summit. A glass of wine with the sunset. A hot chocolate by the fire etc. did my first wild camp last night lakeside at Llyn Y Fan Fawr and spent a few hours talking to another KZbinr I follow who I bumped into camping in the same spot. Awesome weather yesterday, wet windy weather today, but still both really good experiences, I could imagine I was in Costa Rica with the sweeping views of the mountains in the mist, loved it, and made even more special by having my first wildcamp in the same place as someone I never expected I’d bump into. Also did half the return leg in the rain with a random stranger so that was nice too. Love the videos! Many more smiles due I’m sure. 😁 Rob.

I have done a lot of "solo" trips/campings last year, I unfortunately had really bad car accident this year, recovering to get back to wild camping, solo or with someone! I want to enjoy outdoor moments and nature!

As a 'planner' myself just make sure you 'plan' some downtime or 'time to wander/get lost' Some of my very best travel experiences have been stumbled upon, totally by accident.

Hi Grace, some great tips here. Makes me want to go solo even more. I dragged my kids along to the 4 waterfalls because of your video. I didn't realise that you had been as far as Australia & the USA. Have you ever thought about walking the Camino de Santiago? That always looks like a great experience. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Cheers, Andy

Paying for 2 occupants drives me insane too. The whole travel industry seems to think there's always more than one person. The companies likely miss out on loads of bookings because single travellers simply don't book. Nice channel 👍

Thanks for all the videos you create. They have inspired me to get out and start hiking. Last week I walked up Pen Y Fan, wanted to start filming my walks but didn't feel comfortable being in front of a camera haha, maybe one day. This weekend walk around Portland Island was amazing. Looking at my next walk already, maybe I will be brave enough to film it

Completely agree. Love solo travelling. You can do whatever you want to do without worrying about others. As you said completely selfish 🤣 but I felt the same as you it can be hard if your friends are settled and have different interests and frankly why miss out ! Welcome back Grace and looking forward to more videos

BRAVO! Someone finally has the same pet peeve I have as a soloist. It can be blooming expensive on your own yet you typically have a smaller impact on the place you are staying at. You are right, some campsites etc. will reduce their rates for you. My tent is tiny so my literal foot print when camping is vastly smaller than a family sized tent. No complaints from me but it is one of those things I've always found a bit unfair.... a bit like council tax for a singleton but that's a whole other story!

I've been doing stuff solo for years (wild camping is a new addition though!) as most of my friends aren't in to the same music as me, and the one who is lives down South whilst I'm in Scotland. Being going to gigs solo because of that, like you I'm not missing out just because I have no one to go with me. Finished my first solo long distance route (The Clyde Walkway) a few weeks ago, was lovely watching the last episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi on my tablet sitting next to a river with a view of the fields and the setting sun.

I'm exactly the same as you....very spontaneous, I find it harder travelling with someone than on my own. I get frustrated having to wait for people, just like to do what I want at my own pa e without worrying about another person 🤣 I agree its a bit selfish .....highly recommended the Dolomites in a camper, ive just got back and it's amazing, you wld lo e it

I’m with you! But… whereas during the day I’m on a schedule - chockablock with activities Keeps me moving and not lonely. How do you handle the night when everyone in a group or family is unwinding, having dinner together etc. I feel super lonely at that point because it’s hard when you want to be in a group like that but you have to find a table by yourself, or else just walk around looking thru the windows.

Thank you for the tips. I was the same, if I had waited for my friends I’d never have go away. I love traveling solo. I do usually go traveling with my dog. So it’s not exactly solo. But I do what I want, when I want. I prefer it. No arguing what to do and when to do it. I’m looking at going to Iceland ( after watching your videos ) where I won’t be taking my dog. So it will prob be so different with out her. But I love being on my own, erm Is that sad. Haha.
@GracesAdventures

No not sad at all and defintiely still counts as solo with your dog. Lovely to have them as company though ☺️ enjoy iceland it’s such an amazing place!
