Brava !!! Gracie should be getting 10's. I've been watching figure skating and the ballet for years. A girl like Gracie only comes along once or twice a century. She gets a high score because she racks up great TES (40.51 here in the sp); she's the best technical skater on the ice.
@gallantrycrossx19158 жыл бұрын
I'm half Norwegian, the first time I was on ice skates I took off like a rocket. It comes natural to us--skiing, skating, harpooning whales and discovering America. Skating is a national thing, we are the arbiters of good figure skating, it is our heritage.

My dad saw Sonja Henie skate and I learned to ski on an active volcano. I never skated in competition because I enjoy winter sports for the FUN, mostly throwing snowballs, building ice sculptures, building snowmen, making ice angels.

To nationalize certain sports sounds repulsive. Yet, I can't agree any more with your association of ice-skating to Norway; it's as if African athletes sprint brilliant trophies in world games; guys in African countries survive wild animals catching them like leopards and lions. Their legs are extraordinarily outrunning all opponents from other non-African countries, aren't they?

@jacquelinecampbell52268 жыл бұрын
She definitely got into it half way through because of the smile she had on her face when she got into it. For all those people that thought the score was a bit much, imagine yourself in that position. Imagine training all day everyday to get that one routine perfect and then you get some people saying that the score was too high. I agree with the score because it shows that the judges know how much effort the skater is putting into their skating. I know because i am a skater as well and this is complicated, even for someone who had been skating for years like Gracie so give her a break from the negative comments
@BiancaHuntPiano8 жыл бұрын
Is it just me or does it feel like she was a bit underscored? I mean I'm no expert but I get the feeling like she deserved a higher score, not much more though cause she was a bit sloppy a few times, but still, I think she deserved better
@everynameiwantedwastoolong68876 жыл бұрын
BiancaHunt imo no. Her triple flip had an uncalled edge violation which would’ve lowered her scores and she arm flapped too much for her choreography score to be so high

I am one of the few people that agree with the UK Commentary but love this program anyway. It's true she was maybe too cautious...but that she talent she possesses always makes you forget honestly. Even if it was "too safe"I think she pulled it off in some way. I mean.. I can see what the commentators were getting at but still I loved this performance. It was better than Wagner's, I thought. I don't think Gracie was "too uptight" or "rigid"...I just think Ashley was too sloppy. I felt overall Gracie was bringing her A-game and Ashley was getting inflated scores from the judges.

One of my favorite memoirs…Gracie Gold’s bestseller Outofshapeworthlessloser: A Memoir of Figure Skating, F*cking Up, and Figuring It Out (2024). Gracie exposes the toxic culture of professional figure skating, and reflects on her fight to overcome mental health disorders and reclaim her authentic self. In my opinion, Gracie earns a goal medal for exposing the pain behind this beautiful sport.

KuiProductions "No I don't have a life" XD But actually, Gracie had much passion in her skating. Not every skaters passion is portrayed the same way in Yuri on ice. It takes a lot of work to fly around on something that is so slippery you can't even breath on it. I'm the real world, it takes a lot to concentrate on not falling on the tripple toes and making sure to stop without ripping over in her spins, AND incorporate passion. Gracie managed well however. I recommend watching more of her vids :)
@hi66jx7 жыл бұрын
I've seen a lot of figure skaters, and a lot of them have the passion that i just dont see in Gold. I know how difficult it is to skate and how hard she must work, but just because you know how hard a chef worked on a meal, doesn't mean it's a good. She's a talented skater, sure, but I watch ice skating for the passion, and when I just don't see it, in an artistic standpoint, I just dont like it :,))) aite im done please dont take this in a rude way i didn't mean it like that im just explaining myself okokok

Gracie’s answer to a young fan who asked, “Why did you stop eating?”: “I explained that I went through a period where a lot of stuff was happening in my life that was beyond my grasp and way beyond my ability to change or fix. I felt lost and lonely and confused and sad, and I didn’t know what to do. I stopped eating because the amount of food I put in my mouth was the single thing I could control. I hurt myself before anybody else could” (310). On recovering from ED: “I was ready to build an identity outside of my disordered eating, which had been a part of my life longer than most of my inner circle. I knew it wouldn’t be easy. My food issues, however destructive, had served a purpose. As long as my energies were focused on my diet, I didn’t have to confront my parents or unpack my emotional baggage…I recognized that saying ‘I feel fat’ or ‘I’m out of shape’ was easier than giving voice to what was really gnawing at me, like ‘I’m afraid to live up to the expectations people have for me’ ” (196).

This SP was likely the last time any of us saw Gracie Gold remotely happy. After dropping from 1st to 4th in the long at this event, she never skated with this level of heart and conviction again -- as evidenced by bombing later international competitions, failing to qualify for the 2017 World team and then pulling out of every competition this season prior to Nationals leading up to the Olympics. Yikes.

Gracie on being a coach and preventing her students from a paralzing fear of failure: “I’m a pretty good teacher. But you know who’s the best teacher? Failure…If we’re so afraid of failure that we don’t try, how will we ever improve as skaters and grow as people? I’ve fallen a hundred thousand times in my skating career…so when a student describes themselves as ‘garbage’ after falling twice, [I respond] ‘What does that make me? The city dump?’ I don’t know when, where, or why, but falling has gotten a bad rap…I tell my students that the real failure occurs when they’re so afraid to mess up that they don’t make an effort” (318-19). She’s concerned when her students skate so cautiously that they never fall during a lesson.

Gracie describes how it feels to end a disappointing performance: “Imagine: You’ve just fucked up royally. Your worst nightmare has come to pass. But instead of disappearing behind a thunderhead of shame, you now have to stand at center ice and curtsy to the judges who are marking you down as you acknowledge them; to the crowd who has just witnessed your biggest failure in person; to the folks at home who gasped and then grabbed a handful of mixed nuts while you, after starving yourself for two years, hit the ice so hard that you’ll have a bruise in the morning. There you are, mouthing the words ‘Thank you’ ” (pgs. 112-13 of her memoir).
