Can't beat the fundamentals. Key details on the Open Guard pass is securing the underhook as you knee cut pass your opponent's hips. Great video.

My favorite open guard pass...:) Another variation is to grab the oponents lapel with the hand that insn't under his arm - in the case of the video, the left hand goes to the lapel and force to the floor avoiding the oponent to get up... Wonderful guard pass...

Did I hear and understand that right? Guard passes for two months? A lot of gyms I go to, we do a different thing, every day, for 30 days. I feel that a lot of guys get a good idea of a lot of different things but learn very little. I would like to see a lot of time spent really diving into complimentary fundamentals. Different guard pass every day for a week, something like that. I think that is how you produce winners.

this is where i'm running into a lot of problems right now... especially if the guy has double sleeve control or controlling the ankle like a de la riva. I wonder if they could show one where the guy on bottom has 2 grips.

At 3:27 my opponent sometimes stiff-arms me with their right arm which can result in them improving their position. Can you recommend how to manage the right arm of my opponent in this situation?

the top and bottom stripes on the red sleeve aren't degrees on their belts. having the stripe on the top and bottom just means that you are officially an instructor. you have to count the stripes between the top and bottom to figure out what their rank is.

@slouttop I agree with Reallylestdoit, your friend was foolish thinking he could take on 3 attackers with BJJ. But the truth is contrary to what you see in Kung Fu flicks, its very difficult for any one person regardless of what style they train or their level of skill in that style to take on more than one opponent. EVERY martial art style has its short comings. And if you train for self-defense, its important to understand what they are and how to compensate for them.

@slouttop here's ma view on this. BJJ was designed to overcome an opponent with as minimal damage to him as possible. that being said, it is possible to defend urself against 3 attackers, but BJJ isnt the way to go. this is where being a well rounded martial artiste becomes an advantage. use ur boxing, use ur muai tai, use ur wrestling, use ur strikes, and RUN. my trainer would always remind me, "if they are more than one, ur aim should be to create enough space to RUN" sorry abt ur friend

if the guy has a double sleeve control or a dlr hook you have to clear those before you do anything else. you can't pass without clearing those roadblocks.

@banx757 Tbh, I'd say japanese jujutsu works against multiple attackers, uses alot of dirty moves and quick throws, well, when I say works against multiple attackers, its really more likely to succeed than other martial arts

@slouttop Yeah that doesnt make BJJ bad it just makes your friend stupid, obviously you can take three guys to the ground and beat them. But even if you did a standing striking martial your chances against 3 guys are pretty slim. I agree 100% BJJ sucks against multiple opponents but against 1 its pretty damn effective. Also, if all you did was a striking martial art and one of those 3 guys tackled you to the ground how the fuck are you gonna get up, your gonna want BJJ now.

This seems like a pretty risky technique. Aren't they concerned about being kicked in the groin? Once they move into the technique, they hold down the knee to block this, but the initial entry seems to be courting disaster.

Whether u believe it or not...I am a blue belt in BJJ and I have and can submit Judo black belts on the ground....their ground techniques are really bad compared to BJJ but of course they would easily throw me .....but again we will be on the ground and the rest of story.....

It is sad to see so many people are misguided by this crap. Take a look at the comments. A friend of mine did BJJ for 15 years under the gracies. He got the shit kicked out of him against 3 attackers. He tried to take all 3 attackers to the floor.
@hawkfpv16363 жыл бұрын
Of course only using bjj against three people is going to end badly. Bjj does work but it is a tool and has a purpose. This is why you also train other things such as boxing or kick boxing. This way you have multiple tools to choose from depending on the situation. Even still, against three people your goal is going to be to create an opportunity to either run or introduce a weapon that evens the playing field such as a firearm.
