I have never washed a belt no respectable ninja would. The belt history comes from a instructor using a white sash and over time and no cleaning it naturally changed colors

I don't remember who it was, but I heard of a teacher who would take off his belt and give it to his student when they got promoted to black belt. Kind of poetic. I guess he then opened up a new one for himself.
