> "Shall I start a coupon revolution" I work in London at one of the biggest supermarkets as a software engineer and would love this to happen. The biggest difficulty with fresh food coupons is that the mark up on those items is very very low. Coupons only work in those kind of situations if they bring customers into the store and customers buy other items with the coupons. Normally packaged foods have higher mark ups (for the companies producing them) and they can take a loss when initially releasing them to trial the market. If you can come up with a viable idea which would benefit both the customer and the supermarket then let me know :D
@Jaimie-h2f5 жыл бұрын
So I live in America (just north of Chicago), and my grocery store has a rewards card and actually mails me coupons based on my spending habits. Since I buy a lot of fresh produce, they send me coupons for $1.00 a red pepper or a free pound of carrots or what have you, because they know I will spend a ton of money on other produce while I'm there (which I would buy anyway, quite frankly). The rewards card also ties in with the on-site gas station in the parking lot, and the more money I spend on groceries, the cheaper it is to put gas in my car.
@brightspark195 жыл бұрын
Jaime Altman we already have that in the UK too. Tesco have their Clubcard which does exactly the same and various other supermarkets have their own versions. What we don’t have is a lot of coupons which are printed in magazines/newspapers or coupons for free items

If you don’t have any butter/oil or eggs any of them just use a can of fizzy drink and it’s a great replacement for all of those and works well and can’t taste the fizzy drink flavour. Makes most pre made cake mix vegan and you can also use it when you make cakes from scratch. Great video, your such a gem Grace.

Couponing is different in the US. There are coupons everywhere. They come in the mail, newspapers, magazines, store flyers, and online. There are pretty much coupons in every category but not really in produce. As a broke college student I always use a coupon.

we don’t really have couponing like in the U.S because the rules with it are different so the pay off is much better there. In America they’re usually allowed to use more than 1 or 2 of the same coupon at a time, and they’re allowed to use coupons at the same time as the item is on offer in the shop - both of which isn’t really allowed here.

I think with the packaged food like that, you can add like stir fry vegetables or something with it to make it more filling and a little healthier. We do have a lot of coupons in the US but it’s mostly the same sort of packaged food and then like health and beauty products. Before I had my son I was really in to it and would get free bath products and razors and stuff like that all the time.

@emjohnson765 жыл бұрын
kirasgirly how much money do you reckon you save a month?
@kirasgirly5 жыл бұрын
Evelyn Johnson using Fetch? It just depends. You get points, unlike Ibotta you don’t have to find specific item promos. You get points for most things you buy, but they have bonus items if you do buy. It’s mostly dependent on how much you spend. I do earn more back with Fetch than Ibotta, but does take time to get enough points to transfer or get gift cards. I make more money back using Rakuten in the states for online shopping. The last quarter check I got was over $50 but I’ve gotten to $100. So per month is hard to gauge. Oh, and last time I checked paper coupons stack with both Ibotta and Fetch. So sometimes I do save more than I think.

I think the reason couponing isn't a big deal here is because shops here have rules about using one coupon per transaction. Every coupon or voucher I have ever seen has small print on saying "only one per transaction", whereas in the US you always hear of people doing extreme couponing where they get like, $100 worth of groceries for 99c or something. That just wouldn't be possible here without doing 50 seperate transactions, which a big shop would never allow anyway.

Couponing in the UK is really bad at the moment because within the last few years the big coupon companies have gone bust due to people exploiting / over using the coupons that were provided online. i think it has to do with the fact that supermarkets out here are competing with HUGE companies like walmart and costco so they have to jack up their prices, and then use weekly advertisement sales and coupons to bring customers in. It's very weird. I work in a grocery store and its soooo expensive compared to our local super walmart but when there's a flash sale on things like soda and chips and meat its SUPER low. a 24 pack of cola would cost around $7-8 a walmart whereas at my store during a sale it would be $4 for a 24 pk but you have to buy 2 or more.
