i'm vegan and i think it's so impressive that you gave veganism a good shot for the week, regardless of the mistakes/intentional non-vegan eats! the worst thing about veganism is seriously how dogmatic people are. it really doesn't have to be all-or-nothing - if you can't be a perfect and strict vegan, and being super strict will make you upset/miss out on life, whats the point? being 90% or 50% or even 10% vegan is better than not being vegan at all :) you did amazing and i hope you can try and aim for a more plant-based lifestyle where convenient!!

Thank you! I hate the vegans that criticize people that are at least trying to reduce their harm to animals. theres people out there that really think people who are vegetarian are just as bad as complete nonvegans.... it's impossible to be 100% vegan anyways. Because to me being vegan means eliminating harm to all living beings and unless you grow all of your own food most food is produced by workers who are treated unethically.

personally, i only cook vegan food for myself and just eat vegetarian when i eat out. it’s the best i can do right now and that’s what matters! i’ll be fully vegan some day but, with a history of an eating disorder, worrying so much about food is not so realistic for me. i’m glad you tried this out and had a good time! be easy on yourself and just figure out how to do the best you can to reduce your animal product consumption. starting small and making incremental changes, with an end goal in mind, is the way to go!
@VioletWaves44

I totally feel you on this comment, as someone with an eating disorder past also. I just got back from Greece and didn't wish to explain to every waiter that I don't want milk or eggs in their veggie options, which mostly are vegan anyway if you order the right things. But sometimes they sprinkle cheese on or serve with a yogurt zip. I would rather support veggie options when out rather than eat meat so to me, that's still making a difference and showing a demand for veggie options in restaurants. I got really stressed about this when I was last there, so I decided to just do my best this time. But you still get the light shone on you sometimes cos you're restricting most animal products lol.

I do pretty much the same. I live in a country where I don't speak the language well enough to always interrogate everyone about whether there is a bit of milk in something. I always avoid meat and fish and just generally try to avoid other animal products 9 times out of 10. It's not perfect but I am happy with this approach as I can do my best without being seen as 'difficult' by non-vegans who cook for me.

All vegans aren't aggressive like that. For most people its a journey. Most don't wake up and say ok I'm vegan now and never slip up. It takes time and it takes some longer than others. Even people who have been vegan for years accedintally eat something they thought was vegan but ends up having something non vegan in it.

@@Joy-qw3wm hi, haha what's a few years. I think you've misunderstood, I wasn't saying vegan eating isn't unhealthy or bad for the planet, just almond milk specifically being a huge tax on resources such as water. Alternatives to almond milk (oat, soya etc) are far better for the environment than almonds, and if a driving reason for incorporating vegan meals was environmental concern then they'd be preferable. I'm sorry to hear about your health and I'm glad youve found a diet that works :) I love soya milk the most (especially in coffee) but rarely have it due to flatmates soya intolerance

I'm vegan and I think honey is vegan depending on where you get it from. Large companies manufacturing honey is a big no for me, but we have a local store that sells locally harvested honey from local farmers, and I know all the farmers that sell their honey to the local store. They treat their bees SO WELL and their bees don't die to make the honey, along with helping the local environment (flowers and such). They don't even use smoke on their bees. So I don't see a problem with buying honey, just make sure you know where you're getting it from

im vegan and don't even worry about the bagel, its the first week. over time, people learn that your vegan and if you're in a family or friends setting, they won't mind. its just a getting used to thing. once your intentions are fully set in stone, you'll realise that you would rather just have an awkward situation over going against your morals. maybe watch some documentaries and it will get heaps easier. transitioning is the hardest part. visit a vegan cafe and you'll realise how good it can be. by being plant based for 70% of your diet is doing so much already, you just gotta do you

From my research, eating honey is good and supports bees. Bees often make a surplus of honey that’s way more than they need and it doesn’t hurt them or seriously disrupt their systems or health to harvest it if the beekeeper has proper education and equipment. Also if there is a demand for honey, beekeepers stay in business and bee populations can grow. It’s also a good idea to look up ways to support local native varieties of bee so they can continue to thrive in the community. Go bees! Edit: clarification
@gmaerowed
@gmaerowed 5 жыл бұрын
A lot of vegans swap out honey for agave which actually negatively affects the ecosystems and homes of animals in that area, not to mention agave has a super high glycemic index. I love to support local beekeepers and help the environment by buying locally sourced, ethical honey ❤❤
@negativeplace

The bad thing about bees kept by beekeepers is that we need wild bees, and the bees kept by beekeepers carry diseases that kill the wild ones. And the bees get sugar water instead of their honey when humans take it from them.

Some tips that worked for me: Make sure you eat plenty of legumes, nuts and seeds whenever you would've had animal products, just don't eat everything like before but without meat/eggs/dairy. Do pick the whole grain version of everything. Also it could be worth checking if you could benefit from supplements (except for b12, if you're vegan this should be mandatory) like omega 3, D-vitamines, iron etc. Good luck with eating more plant based and based!

Bloody love this channel, only just found it and feel i have missed out! Just give shit a go! I've been vegan 5 years and I have made many a slip up. Particularly when eating out. My general tactic for dealing with the "I don't eat that" situation, especially at parties is to offer to bring something for me to have and to be shared. Also I always pre plan what I am going to eat when I go for meals. If you are genuinely interested in starting moving towards being more vegan then just take it slow, let yourself make mistakes and just keep being aware and positive :) never let anyone tell you you aren't doing something right. When it comes to anything in life if you are doing something that's better than doing nothing :)

I do just want to point out that most internal changes (drinking more water, eliminating certain foods or food groups, taking supplements) made to try and improve your skin will require much more than 5 days to see any change. In regards to not wanting to be a bother - luckily it's easier than in the past to have dietary restrictions accommodated, & if you ever did want to become vegetarian or vegan think of it the same as your dairy intolerance - you need to be mindful of what's in the food you eat & I'm sure that must come up for you in social situations

Love this one. I'm not vegan but I try so hard to cut a lot animal products out of my diet and beauty products. I think the awareness we have now is fantastic and if we all try to swap out some of our products for vegan ones, we can really start to make a difference.

hey grace! no worries!! veganism is really hard, and it took my quite a while before i got the hang of it. so many things have non-vegan stuff that you wouldnt expect. as for being difficult, i used to and continue to feel bad about being difficult so usually i just dont eat... which sounds really bad, but i eat a bunch when i get back from an event! or i bring a snack with me if i expect there wont be much. it sounds hard but its not too bad :) and one day i think every gathering will have vegan options, we just arent at that point yet

Only reason I went vegetarian was for the environment! 2 years later, I finally accepted I prefered being a flexitarian (75% vegetarian if I sum up what I eat in a month I guess) because life is so much easier and you don't feel like crap for cheating, instead I feel good about having a really good week of eating no meat or whatever... and it works better with my lifestyle: family with hunters, addicted to cheese, student on a budget with no time and will eat whatever if I don't have to cook it and who will eat whatever my grandma made because obviously, etc. But yeah the planet is a massive motivation either way to improve our habits

Going cold turkey vegan is really difficult, it'd be awesome if you went vegan 6 days a week and then one day a week try but don't worry yourself too much. Try vegenase for mayo alternative xx Try sheeshs for cream cheese alternative and turfurky deli slices for cold meat alternatives xx

6 days a week I'd assume is actually more difficult than 7. Because you have to think "oh. This day not" like meals and that way slowly. Not "6 days a week"

I loved this video, well done for trying and keeping an open mind. I eat vegan most of the time but when I'm travelling or at a place where I can't control every ingredient I sometimes eat a vegetarian option. I would never eat meat or fish but I do 'slip up' from time to time with small amounts of dairy or egg in something. I don't personally believe you need to be 100% perfect to make a difference. If you ate mostly vegan with the odd mayo etc now and then, you'd still be doing extremely well!

It can be harder to go out and eat socially depending on where you are/where you go... I think what helps me is just remembering why I'm doing it. It just feels so important to me now that foods that have animal products in them don't even sound like food options. It gets better. At first it was for my health, and it still is AND I also educated myself on the ethics and that makes it so much easier to say no to what isn't vegan. It can make other's uncomfortable, but I have clear boundaries around that and I have to remember that I have to honour what makes serves me and my integrity and I'm not responsible for others.

Bc of eating out etc, its hard to stay true to ur self when you don’t want to be annoying for everyone else but I guess you just gotta put it in perspective and go eat out places that have vegan menus, lots of restaurants in the UK do now, like Zizzi’s, Pizza express, Wagamama etc...

I don’t think people understand that alot of things you already eat are vegan, like bread, pasta, tomato sauce etc. Personally I also think people shouldn’t get crap for trying it or vegans messing up once in a while. The whole point is to LESSEN the use of animal products, so if someone has mayonnaise once or doesn’t read the label before buying something it doesn’t matter. I’m not vegan but I have switched my normal staple foods to vegan ones and I try to eat as little meat as possible. Every little thing helps, so if you just check to see if you can switch your mayo, butter, milk, canned goods etc. into vegan ones I would still salute you. Switch whatever you can and if you want to you can go vegan, but I think veganism gets a bad rep because of all the famous vegans that makes it look so intricate and difficult and judging normal people for not eating the way they do. When it comes to honey I don’t think we should stop buying it because bees help our agriculture and basically keeps the world alive lol and buying honey helps the bee keepers so they can continue their work and so on. In other words, allowing bees to produce honey helps the environment and our food production and the bees obviously are gonna do it even if we don’t buy their honey so why waste a good, healthy product that isn’t harming anyone 🤷‍♀️
