I never got to hear the FDS version before, being an NES kid for the past 24 years (I'm 28 now). Only the intro/title track, item acquisition and ending theme sound different than the NES counterpart to me, but still. Metroid is one of my favorite and dearest games of all time and I owe it and a few other early games for getting me into music in general. Thank you for uploading this.

Metroid was the first game I ever played in my whole life, and one of my earliest memories ( _At present time of writing: 31½, 1986_ ). It shaped my view on a lot of things. Fantastic game.
@Duke_Togo_G136 жыл бұрын
@@Zeithri Dude... I played this in 1987 and along with Kid Icarus and Zelda... This game had the lasting impact.
I think the reason only a few songs used the Famicom's extra channel is because the extra channel was mostly set aside for sound effects. This is true in the Legend of Zelda. the US games used the DPCM channel (which was pretty rarely used for music, but you hear it in the snare drums in SMB3 and the bass in Batman).

Super Metroid's adaptations of Title, Samus Entry Jingle, and Item Acquisition Jingle are from the FDS versions of the tunes rather than the NES versions. I don't know what he's talking about as far as "the importance of the difference" though.

The reason for the Super Metroid version sounding more like the FDS Metroid themes is most likely because of the pronunciation of the instruments when comparing NES to FDS. A good example is the item acquisition theme where both versions have the same melody but in the NES version you more clearly hear the harmony.
