@Deplorable Centrist Heck yes, we do. My club has a 750'x50' concrete runway that was leveled by laser-scree while also having a 400'x36' geotex runway, a control line circle and a truck track. We've had 3 million dollars worth of planes at an event at one time, some of which cost over $50,000 each.

WWII Fun Fact: During WWII in England, the airport runways were not paved and had trees scattered here and there so that it didn't look like an air base from the air. The Germans had no idea what to bomb!
@Skorpychan4 жыл бұрын
Actually, they were mostly grass strips because they were easier to make, and to repair after crashes or a bombing. Big paved strips were used for bombers, like at Duxford. It's pretty easy to spot an airfield from the air in daylight, since it's surrounded by buildings and has a long straight path. The ones that survived the war were generally the larger ones, and got expanded and paved. Smaller ones either ended up as race tracks, or just got turned into housing. Even nowadays you have to be careful when expanding runways, because you'll dig up unexploded german bombs, or the charges designed to wreck the runway in case of invason, to deny it's use to german gliders.
@marcryvon4 жыл бұрын

Chris, Enjoy your efforts in showing us the process; very informative. You mentioned that after you complete placing topsoil and grading same, you'll have the new area hydro seeded. A question, if I may regarding the topsoil you're going to use. Assuming it's the blended product that you screened, was the topsoil tested to determine if the Ph had to be adjusted for the grass type to be sown? Just curious. Graders are definitely an excellent investment! PS Also, am following a KZbin site (ScaleJetFred) on R/C models which raises the hobby to another level, if interested.

As much grass as you had to strip and it looked like good grass a sod farm might have either come and done it for free or even paid you a couple bucks. Here in Idaho the sod farms are hauling it as far as southern Utah and Arizona.
@george88734 жыл бұрын
You could almost reuse that sod with the way it was peeling up and rolling off the grader blade. Well, if it was a better quality grass that is. Speaking of sod, how is that sod doing in your lawn? The sod that looked dead when you layed it down I mean. I know it looked pretty good on the update, just curious if it's still surviving well.
