Other than mint luster, I look for the split-tail on hip (reverse) & feather/hair separation just below the top braid (as mentioned) for top grade Nickels....ALSO a good pressing. Many uncirculated Nickels have SOFT/worn die pressings, usually showing in lack of depth in the word "LIBERTY" on obverse (front). All my (six)1913 coins are uncirculated but have a shallow LIBERTY.

One thing everybody needs to know, there are solutions (liquid) when painted on Buffalo Nickels brings up details, such as date ; horn, ect. making them look to be a much better grade than before. It shows itself as a dulling / greying of the coin, no shine left at all. These coins are worth MUCH LESS than natural ones. Example: a 1913-S (variety 1) in fine grade is worth about $60.+ Restored, in the same fine grade I've paid $5. Many collectors want nothing to do with them....only using them (if at all) as "fillers" in album/folder spots.

I've just started really saving coins in the Last year or so. I've got some great coins. I have a 1937 buffalo nickel, from what your showing! I can grade it at Extremely Fine! Shame it's not one of the 3 legs that would be worth a good penny! Lol. I've been going through my coins, I'm getting ready to try and sell them. I'm in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. You know or have any info on someone in the area I can deal with? I get nervous when I think about even taking them out to have looked at. Don't know who you can trust anymore. Lol. I have a 1927s Buffalo Nickel in xf condition and (the pride of my collection) a 1936 Buffalo Nickel in ms66 shape! Both of which, I bought at an auction (most expensive item - $45 for the ms66 coin). As of Jan 2019, ms66 condition coins are about $110. Haven't seen much for my 1927s xf condition coin but guessing about $7

yes it is possible and it is very common no its not a error the date is just worn off completely I have tons of buffalo nickels with no date you can use a product called nic a date and it might bring the date back but it also might be hard to see.

@@alfredapatang2431 usally people will by them to make jewelry out of them so not much. Mostly under a dollar. You might be able to get any between 20cents to 60cents for them without a date so it's not much but still something

Those are all common dates, I buy them for 25c to 50c each. Unless Your '37 has three legs and it's in XF.

+SoulBaron no about good you can still read the date. a dateless buffalo is considered a cull and in the same group as p-1 or poor-1 for condition. for any coin to have a grade it must have a readable date.
