Jarran Reed played 679 snaps. Leonard Williams played 750. Byron played just over 450 snaps. Boye Mafe had a big leap in year 2, and so did Derrick Hall. It’s fair to expect a similar leap in year 2 for Byron Murphy, but that probably means Jarran Reed is out the door.

He had 12 tackles in 14 games...12. Verse took over games at times. Fisk was a problem all year long. Verse and Fisk both jump off the screen. Murphy's name was rarely called. I never expected 10 sacks, but I expected a game wrecker against the run. I would say a C. Average guy out there.
@johnnelson92232 күн бұрын

I have thought about this too but then I thought to myself. Well the run defense has improved substantially and when we missed him (and especially when we did not have Ernest) the run defense was awful. Wyman usally picks up on these but watching the all-22 is guy that is doubled when he is on the field. There were some run plays he just looked unblockable. Hopefully next year it pays off with some sacks but those went to Big Cat who was having a great year. We need to get better on the edge because those guys aren't winning their match ups as often as they should. Mafe is the best we have. Hall took a step up but not a huge one.

@michaelstrauss37692 күн бұрын
You’re being a little harsh on a future All-Pro. He’s played 25+ games in the last year. He hasn’t yet had the benefits coming from a full off-season in a Professional weight room. He brought some weak tendencies from his College career that will be addressed by good Line Coaching. He’s already proven that he can hold his ground against a Pro level double team. Give the “kid” a chance to mature a bit; he could become a monster.
@mgb46922 күн бұрын
Future All-Pro, that the same one which L.J. Collier's been knocking down for years?🤣 Nnamdi, who Mac was so hellbent on duplicating, had double the production on roughly 60% of the snaps his rookie year, *with* a better collection of pass rushers (Calais, Matt Judon, Pernell McPhee, half a season of Yannick Ngakoue) No-tez Kennedy

For how stacked this rookie class was talent-wise, Id say his production floor was already high, but he definitely could have performed more explosively. When we had him in the beginning of the year we were winning games, and when he got hurt we stared losing and producing less on the D-line. Overall he has a lot of ceiling to improve with, but in terms of being able to get stats he needs to become a lot more electric.
@jarrettchristensen_music3 күн бұрын

From watching Murphy play I think he just needs a little more coaching. There were so many plays where he got to the QB but couldn’t finish the rush. He just needs to get better at finishing and he’ll have a solid 5-7 sacks next year. That and don’t pull facemasks
@Mentaltoughness233 күн бұрын
Agreed. Also yes he was double teamed. But there was also 1 on 1 but he cant win. Dunno whats wrong if its a strenght or technique issue.
@tiredguy7093 күн бұрын
@ seemed more like technique. Even Aaron Donald didn’t win every 1on1 battle but the key I think is just in finishing the rep. If Murphy gets into the backfield he would often overshoot or lose balance as he started trying to tackle the QB. He probably wasn’t used to the level of mobility and footwork of nfl level QBs. I think if he learns better balance and better pass rush moves he can set himself up for more finishes that result in sacks and tfl’s
@Mentaltoughness233 күн бұрын

@ he’s definitely had a good season, although we’re comparing an interior Dlineman with an edge rusher. Different responsibilities. A lot of Murphy’s job has just been gap assignment meaning just plug a hole on run plays and dissuade the RB from even coming your way. Our run defense was atrocious the 3 games Murphy was out. I think this second season he should be able to build on his game immensely.
@mgb46923 күн бұрын
@ OK how about Fiske then? You don't wanna go there Mikey Likes It was hired to erase the mediocrity, not extend it (then again The Shrew likes optics and feelings, so she's become your typical clueless NFL owner). It’s tough. I don’t think he’s a bad player by any means, but when you have him compared to Aaron Donald and then he gets outperformed by the guy drafted after him by the team who HAD Aaron Donald, it really sucks. And this fool's going to bring the team to new heights? Best we can hope for is KOC, 13 and 14 wins and then one-and-spanked out of the playoffs. A C grade is what I expected. He is average. he is a rookie. I think he will be a fine defensive tackle for years to come, but to set the expectation that he is in the top 10 defensive tackles, which is where I would put an a grade is unfair to the player and unrealistic.
