That is impressive but it should be noted that all of those yards, except for 1 catch, came from return yards only. he busted 1 great return which made up almost half of those yards. The rest were from the 6 other returns Jones made which were just your typical average returns that pack up yards as a result of getting alot of returns. And 1 56 yards catch. Jones also had a fumble. Flacco had almost 300 yards, 3 tds and 0 pics and 0 fumbles. The second half they mainly just game managed so he was not putting up stats as much as the first half.

It's a cliche but Starr's true value can be found in his leadership and ability to call a game. He was one of the few - maybe even the only - player Lombardi wouldn't chew out (publicly) and he called his own game. This was a man who only lost one post season game in his career as a starter and was so revered by his peers they named the "Good Guy Award" after him.

I watched Super Bowl 3 and Joe Namath played pretty good even by today standards. He had 3 drops and otherwise was on the money for over 70% of his attempts. He also made some pretty good off platform throws and showcased his strong arm. He had 1 “bad” pass I felt like and 1 really good pass. Most of the plays were easy routes taken because of the way the defense played them.

If only the colts played Johnny U the whole game and not just the 4th quarter already down 16, he was injured during the season but was cleared to play in the super bowl and by the time he finally got to play he got them to score their only points, and he almost got the same stats as Namath in a quarter of a game, Namath didn’t deserve the mvp and his running back Matt snell should’ve gotten it, Matt snell had 160 all purpose yards against the best defense in football that year, almost as much as namath, and didn’t turn the ball over, Namath is hands down the Worst super bowl mvp ever
@worldtree2027
@worldtree2027 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnbeck2837 Watch the game, he realistically should’ve had a 70%+ completion with a good amount of yardage. It’s very easy to look at stats but in terms of film and analysis I thought he played pretty good. Certainly nowhere near the worst we’ve seen from a SBMVP. He contributed a good amount on their scoring drives and considering he played in an under center era with minimal spread and quicker pressure which lowers the quality of targets I can say that’s enough. Individually based on games I’ve seen from 60s/70s Quarterbacks he is easily Top 5 for that era.

I don't know about stupid. Brady broke the records for attempts, completions, and passing yards in that Super Bowl. @Rekcha
@Rekcha 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewthayer9316 It was 100% name value. James White set the Super Bowl records for points and receptions, scored the game winning TD that involved going through two guys, and was consistently open throughout the game. It’s also not like Brady was perfect in the second half, as he nearly threw 3 picks in a row on their final scoring drive. @RicardoAGuitar
@RicardoAGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say the ONLY. If he had put up his usual modest stat lines instead en route to three SB wins, he still gets in because A) QB for three SB champs, and 2) a Dallas Cowboy. Plus he had that no-nonsense demeanor that OG sportswriters orgasmed about.
@ntgr87
@ntgr87 2 жыл бұрын
@@RicardoAGuitar Ok yeah I suppose he could have played a bit worse and still won 3 (probably 2 though; do much less in the 92 NFCCG and they lose that one) and people would treat it the same, as we've seen with Tommy where it doesn't matter how he plays, just that his team wins (also more relevant in CCGs than SBs). But we agree in principle, it just depends on how you read my post lol
@RicardoAGuitar
@RicardoAGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
@Fries I'm not concerned with his volume stats because, of course, great O-line and possible GOAT RB, you didn't need 300 yards and 4 TDs from Aikman. But with the advantages he had, and the physical gifts that he had, his efficiency should have been MUCH better
@abhaybhatt4286
@abhaybhatt4286 24 күн бұрын
He was pretty decent in the regular season. But tbf being THAT good in the playoffs for the threepeat is a super valuable, and rare, skill for a QB. And it's not like he statpadded, all three rings were his doing on a per-game basis. He deserves a HoF spot but played at the right time, QB expectations skyrocketed a few years right after he retired. Also there's the whole case that the NFL HoF is explicitly for players who contributed to the game's history. Aikman was a HUGE reason why the Cowgirls were popular, marketable, and thus made the league a crap ton of money. It's the same reason Eli will get in but guys like CMac have no shot

@@nickwright4079 and Brady’s 4 TDs don’t mean anything if Butler doesn’t pick that ball off because it’s a TD (or very likely one as there’s always the chance a WR drops a pass) if Butler doesn’t play it perfectly. Though I also don’t like giving an MVP nod for a game over a single play, even if that play is very hard to top due to how crucial it was at the time.
