I hear this and I think: "Wait, doesn't he get help from Aaron Jones?" One of the best RB's in the league? And he certainly can't complain about a top-ranked offensive line that does a great job of protecting him. We tend to equate help with "getting a wide receiver." On the other hand, if I had to choose between getting a WR and getting a defensive stud, I'm going to choose getting a defensive stud. As this video points out, it's not the lack of WR's which has killed his postseason hopes, it's the defense.
@ryantrudell46863 жыл бұрын
I mean, for what it's worth, the Packers have consistently finished as a top 5-10 offensive unit throughout Rodgers' tenure, with a few years being the #1 offense (2011, 2020) and possibly more. Reason they haven't gotten over the hump is primarily defense, which we've always use our high draft picks for, but always end up with average or oft-injured players that can only be relied on for a few years before they're out of the league. Adding more WRs to the heap wouldn't necesarrily do much in the way of moving the needle.

I think the only reason why the packers won't be a dynasty and why Rodgers only won 1 ring is because of the conference he is in. In the past 20 years there has only been 1 team to win more than 1 super bowl in the nfc and that's the Giants. If he was in the afc he would probably have 3 rings

@@Malachi-Rhodes Of course but if u look at it those are the only teams that made it within the 20 years whereas in the nfc there's about 6 more teams. His chances are better if he was in the afc. As where in the afc they only had to worry about 4 teams(Peyton Manning counts as a team cuz without him the colts and Broncos really didn't have a chance)knocking them off instead of like 9 or 10. So I believe its really just because of the conference he was in I'mnot saying other factors didn't affect him and the packers but i believe that was the main reason why. Stats can be deceiving. Did you watch the games? Let's go over it. 2009 - Arizona - 0-1 - Great fricking game by Rodgers. Totally on the defense. Though Rodgers did have a chance to win it late and failed, something that would become a theme. 2010 - Philly - 1-1 - OK game by Rodgers. Still gave the ball back to the Eagles at the end, but recurring theme in 2010, the defense got it done with an INT in the endzone. 2010 - Atlanta - 2-1 - God like performance by Rodgers. Arguably the greatest performance by a QB in any postseason game. 2010 - Chicago - 3-1 - After a good 1st half by Rodgers, zero points in the second half. Fortunately for Rodgers, the defense pulled it out in the end. 2010 - Pittsburgh - 4-1 - Great game by Rodgers on the biggest stage. Still could only manage a FG at the end when a TD would have put it away, again, a theme for Rodgers in the postseason. 2011 - NY Giants - 4-2 - Poor game by Rodgers, very unlike the amazing year he had just had. The Giants were handed 10 points on turnovers by the Packer offense, and they scored a junk time TD on a short field after the Packers had failed an onside kick. Subtract out those points and the Packer defense only gave up 20 points all game. Regardless, the Packer offense had only 13 points at home until 5 minutes left in the game, when the game was out of reach. It is a huge MYTH that the defense cost this game. Wrong. The offense failed us here. Was it all Rodgers' fault. No. But the offense's fault surely. 2012 - Minnesota - 5-2 - Weak win against a backup QB. No one cares. 2012 - 49ers - 5-3 - This game was on the defense, but the game was 24-24 in the 4th Quarter with Rodgers having the ball. That led to a punt. 49ers then put up 14 more points to make the game look more lopsided than it was. The final TD was in junk time and only inflated the score. 2013 - 49ers - 5-4 Rodgers played like garbage. Zero first downs in the 1st Quarter. Defense kept the Packers in the game. You give Rodgers a lot of credit for leading a FG drive near the end of the game. Yeah, that's a trend. A TD drive may have won the game. On Rodgers. 2014 - Dallas - 6-4 - Rodgers plays well against Dallas for some reason. He seems to actually try to win the game against them rather than just trying to not lose it. 2014 - Seattle - 6-5 - Worst loss in Packer history, and Rodgers was the #1 reason why. Threw two painful picks. Never challenged Richard Sherman, even after he got injured. Was terrible on 3rd down, which is why the Packers had to settle for FGs. Again, you give Rodgers a lot of credit for managing to give Crosby a shot from 49 yards. How about a TD to win the game instead? Is that too much to ask from a HOF QB? But like I said, settling for FGs is a theme in Rodgers' postseason history. If the Packers win the coin toss, they punt on their first drive. 2015 - Washington - 7-5 - Good game by Rodgers. Washington didn't belong there though. 2015 - Arizona - 7-6 - Actual great game by Rodgers with all his weapons out. Defense wasn't bad. Just playing against a better team here. 2016 - NY Giants - 8-6 - Giants were terrible this game. Rodgers was decent. 2016 - Dallas - 9-6 - Again, Rodgers played great against Dallas. Fortunately for him, just getting a FG at the end was enough to win this time. 2016 - Atlanta - 9-7 - Packers were overmatched in every facet this game. Defense got walloped and were the main cause. But Rodgers and the offense had 0 points well into the 3rd Quarter. Even if the defense had played well, the Packers lose. Rodgers got some junk stats in the 4th Quarter with the game out of reach. Made his statline look better than it actually was. In reality, it was another bad NFC Championship for Rodgers, though the defense was worse. 2019 - Seattle - 10-7 - Rodgers was decent, not great. Seattle turned it over 3 times and that was really the difference. 2019 - San Fran - 10-8 - The defense was run over in this game. However, like the last NFC Championship blowout, the Packer offense had zero points until the 8 minute mark of the 3rd Quarter. It was 27-0 before that happened. The game was already over. I give Rodgers next to zero credit for putting up points and stats when it no longer mattered. You use those junk time stats to suggest Rodgers played well. He did not. 2020 - LA Rams - 11-8 - Solid performance by Rodgers. Packers were just all around better team than the Rams. 2020 - Tampa Bay Bucs - 11-9 - This is actually Rodgers best performance in an NFC Championship, where he notoriously has not been very good. Unfortunately, he could do nothing with 3 INTs in the second half by Brady, and once again settled for a FG late. Blame the coach if you want, but Rodgers and the offense had 3 downs from the 7 yard line and had advanced not an inch. Pretty unrealistic to think they would have scored on 4th. Maybe the loss isn't Rodger's fault, but it was just another big game that he had a chance to win and didn't. 2021 - San Francisco - 11-10 - Rodgers is 0-4 against San Fran in the playoffs and 2012 is the only game it could even be suggested he played well in. You'd have to go back to Lombardi to find an playoff game where the Packer defense played so well. Rodgers has no one else to blame on this one. This game should have been won. In summation, I put 4 of the 10 losses mostly on Rodgers' shoulders while putting 4 losses on the defense. I believe Rodgers should have 3 more titles had he simply played better in a couple key games. Also, tough to have a great defense while paying your QB 15% of your cap or more.

Agree with a lot of the points made in this analysis, the only thing I would add is to that 2011 loss to the Giants. The Packers offense was actually worse in that game than you mentioned. Late in the first quarter there was an oblivious fumble by Greg Jennings at the NY 30 that should have ended that Packers drive... despite it being an obvious fumble (seriously, anybody reading this, go back and watch it and tell me it isn't) and an NY challenge, the play was somehow not called a fumble and the Packers scored their only TD, before garbage time late in the 4th, in the game after that. To add to the Myth busting regarding the defense costing the packers that game, the defense managed to block an NY field goal and intercept Eli once in that game both of which resulted in 0 points by the GB offense on either subsequent drive. Sorry to harp on that game in particular, but I was convinced that the Packers were going to repeat as Super Bowl winners back in 2011 so I remember that game and the GB offensive implosion quite well.

@@gbrow1604 in both games, it should have never came down to special teams if rodgers had simply been decent. he threw 2 red zone picks in 2014. even with the packers conservative kicking in the red zone, if he threw 1 less pick, then the special teams don't matter. In the 2021 game, all he had to do was pick up a few first downs up 10-3. if he does it this, it is over and there is no block kick. he plays bad enough and wastes good defensive performances long enough for the defense to tire down and special teams to have a mistake whereas if he is even somewhat decent or at least does the bare minimum (get a first down vs. sf and don't throw a red zone pick vs. seahawks) then they win.

In the case of Rodgers, the dude needed a defense to hold up the scores he made. Also, there are some phenomenal teams over the years that prove it is tough to follow up a championship. Those 2014-2015 KC Royals were phenomenal but fell off after that. The Braves won 5 pennants in 8 completed seasons in the 90's, with 4 HOF athletes through most of that run, and still only won one title.
@AbbeyRoadkill13 жыл бұрын
Yup. Winning a championship is incredibly difficult and only comes when you have both luck and great athletic talent on your side. Indeed, football is probably the most difficult sport in which to win a title. There are 22 starters per team and if any one of them plays poorly it can lead to a loss.

As a Packers fan, it's hard to blame any one person on the 2011 loss to the Giants. The running game didn't show up (Rodgers led the team in rushing), the offensive line wasn't great (4 sacks, lack of run game), receivers sucked (6 dropped passes), Rodgers missed a few throws, defense shit its pants again. What happened is that during the bye week offensive coordinator Joe Philbin's son died in an accident and that messed the whole team up. You could tell watching that game the Packers just weren't in it and didn't want to be there. If there was a playoff loss Rodgers could be blamed for, it's the 2013 game against the 49ers. Yes, he did lead the Packers to a game-tying drive, but for most of the game he wasn't that good and that last drive really should have been a TD drive to take the lead. They got inside the 10 yard line and the drive stalled. Not that the Packers would have won the Super Bowl that year or anything, they weren't that good, but still.

Aight so not to brag, but, there was a comment on this video that said that "it would help if Aaron Rodgers had been an above-average quarterback who wasn't a game manager who took too many sacks for the past five years," and I took that personal. I went on Pro Football Reference, compared ARod 2019 to the average QB in 2019, and he's above average in every category, especially his legendary Int-per-pass stat, mildly below average in completion percentage (it was like 62% for Rodgers and 63.5% for the field). But since he said "the past five years," I went ahead and crunched the numbers and, yup, still significantly better than average, especially in picks-per-pass (gotta be his signature stat), and he was in competition with most of the league's best quarterbacks whilst lacking the rushing ability of Lamar Jackson and not having anywhere close to the receiving corps enjoyed by Drew Brees or Patrick Mahomes. I guess I got that guy real mad, because the comment is gone.
@USALeonHeart4 жыл бұрын
Here's the deeper statistical analysis since I put so much work into it and dude was being petty deleting his comment so they wouldn't be seen: Average NFL QB in 2019: 3760 Yards 25.6 TDs 12.8 INT 4.5% TD per pass 2.3% INT per pass 63.5% comp 40 sacks 90.4 QBR Aaron Rodgers in 2019, compared against some of his peers. 4002 Yards (Mahomes: 4031, Lamar: 3127, Wilson: 4110, Brady: 4057, Brees: 2979) 26 TDs (Mahomes: 26, Lamar: 36, Wilson: 31, Brady: 24, Brees: 27) 4 INT (Mahomes: 5, Lamar: 6, Wilson: 5, Brady: 8, Brees: 4) 4.6% TD per pass (Mahomes: 5.4%, Lamar: 9%, Wilson: 6%, Brady: 3.9%, Brees: 7.1%) 0.7 INT per pass (Mahomes: 1%, Lamar: 1.5%, Wilson: 1%, Brady: 1.3%, Brees: 1.1%) 62% comp (Mahomes: 65.9%, Lamar: 66.1%, Wilson: 66.1%, Brady: 60.8%, Brees: 74.3%) 36 sacks (Mahomes: 17, Lamar: 23, Wilson: 48, Brady: 27, Brees: 12) 95.4 Quarterback Rating (Mahomes: 105.3, Lamar: 113.3, Wilson: 106.3, Brady: 88, Brees: 116.3) In 2019, he was notable above average in yards, a bit above average in TDs, takes less sacks than average, is only 1.5% below average on completions but, of course, his signature stat, he DECIMATES the interception average both in total number and especially the int-per-pass %. According to QBR, he's a solid 5% above average. He threw exactly as many TDs in the regular season as Patrick Mahomes, and threw as few picks as Drew Brees who only played 11 games. He threw basically as many yards as Mahomes and Wilson, and much more than Lamar. God only knows what he could do with the receiving corps enjoyed by Brees or Mahomes. This is Aaron Rodgers "in decline." But wait, there's more! NFL QBs since 2015: 3784 Yards 24.96 TDs 13.2 INT 4.48% TD per pass 2.38 INT per pass 63.3 % comp 37.76 sacks 89.94 Quarterback Rating Aaron Rodgers since 2015 (averaged out, and this includes half a season in 2017 which drags a few numbers down): 3673.6 Yards 27.6 TDs 5.4 INT 5.5% TD per pass 1.2% INT per pass 62% comp 37.6 sacks 97.42 Quarterback Rating Across the past five years, the Aaron Rodgers In Decline has 110 yards below average (once again, including an injury-shortened season that hurts that number,) throws about 2.5 more TDs, throws almost 2/3 fewer interceptions, throws more TDs per pass, throws significantly fewer INTs per pass, is only 1% below average on completions, takes almost exactly as many sacks as anyone else, and is significantly better in overall rating. I'm not going to argue that he's way better than average, but he put up stats that are extremely competitive and did do with a receiving corps ranked 20th by PFF. (Chiefs: 4, Saints: 13, Pats: 26, Hawks: 25, Ravens: 31) www.pff.com/news/pro-nfl-receiving-corps-rankings-all-32-teams-entering-2019 www.pro-football-reference.com/years/NFL/passing.htm (To get season averages I multiplied raw numbers by 16) www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/RodgAa00.htm

Tom Brady is an excellent QB. Not a very athletic one but a smart one who can put the ball wherever he wants. He is also very clutch. I’m not saying he’s the best but he is definitely one of the best. Also Tom Brady knows when to go down to prevent injury. I feel like Rodgers and many other QB’s try to do too much which results in injuries. Tom isn’t athletic enough to run out of the pocket. But, just because you are athletic enough doesn’t mean you can’t get down when you know you’re about to smacked by a lineman. Rodgers suffers from this along with Cam. One play is not worth getting injured for the entire game or season.

Brady is in your head dude. You list those games - but forget that Brady lost to NY twice on basically one play in each of those games, and even the Philly game had the ball and a chnace at the end. The breaks balance out. This video was very accurate - I really wasn't aware of the degree of suck that the Packers D managed in playoffs. Pats were almost always - "Defense first" - and Brady "find a way to score points, and don;t turn the ball over". The basic "Brady comparison" is - Rogers had a lot of talent - but is a loser. Brady is a winner. Whatever that immeasureable thing is - Brady has a gallon of it. If you want some fun go watch MI vs Alabama Orange bowl with brady at QB - he played exactly the same - even the clutch passes to tight ends. MI might have been national champs that year - if coach hadn't been playing games at starting QB that season. Even this year - if Godwin hadn't had his legs chopped or AB hadn't freaked out - we might be watching him in SB again. (If he had both AB and Godwin - lights out.) nothing personal - the guy is a freak.

Cant blame the defense for this years loss. Aaron Rodgers has a beef with the 49ers for not drafting him and it gets in his head and he plays poorly against them. Hence the 3 playoff losses to the 9ers who were arguably a lesser team every time.

He was the better QB in that game too. Not good, but better. Maybe there was more he could have done, but I don’t blame him that much.

And remember they were the 1st of 23 teams that were supposed to be sorry for passing on him in the 2005 draft 😜 If not for “don’t care” Cutler and famous respecter of women Big Ben both stepping aside in 2011 he’d be in the Marino/Romo/Rivers ring(less) of honor.
