Played this so much in my early teenage years. I would hurry up getting ready for school so that I had extra time to play games, and for like a year straight I would always choose to play this. The music always helped calm my nerves before having to head off to school. Love this soundtrack! That damned speed level would always get me though, haha! I miss playing games like this where you could replay them over and over, and just practice until you could beat it with your eyes closed. I did the same thing with Contra, Castlevania, and Star Fox 64. They all just never got old, and watching this video really took me back to when I had this game down pat.

This is my favorite SNES game and my favorite Gradius. I used to run through Arcade difficulty on a regular basis on my old SNES (there’s one weapon edit combo that is insanely OP) when I was a teenager. I also had Super R-Type and U.N. Squadron. As much as I loved those games I just loved everything about Gradius III. It’s the music and sound effects. The SNES was the first system I ever got to properly plug into a stereo receiver, and hearing those tunes with their stereo effects and those big, chunky, multi-channel boss explosions was a revelation. It never got old! Even with the slowdown I think this is a phenomenal game. If you’re just getting into shmups, start it on easy and work your way up. Find a weapon combo that works and use the slowdown to learn the stages and enemy patterns. I had Gradius and Life Force on my NES age regularly played both right up until I sold it to buy an SNES. Gradius III was the game I was most looking forward to, moreso even than Super Mario World. I love that each stage has its own personality defined by colors, music, and enemies. That’s the way it should be in a shmup. And the ending! Absolutely perfect. I’m so pumped that you are finally posting a playthrough.

There's also a patch for this game that removes all slowdown from the game. I've not tried the patch myself (I only do ips files for patching, these other ones seem alien to me to try), but going from videos, it ups the games difficulty a bit more. And I'll be that guy that prefers the arcade version over the SNES version (I have two SNES copies, and the PS2 and PSP Gradius collections), unlike Parodius, where I liked both equally, and the SFC version even added an extra stage with the Bath House level.

Man, I grew up with this one. My personal favorite loadout is the Small Spread Missiles, E.Laser, R.Option, Reduce Shield, and Shield Restore (Double doesn't matter, I don't use it). I call that loadout, the wreaking ball, since a charging E.Laser hurts enemies that touch it. It takes a bit to get going, but once powered up, you're ship becomes a wondering, energy clocked instrument of death. Also, the E.Laser is the game's strongest weapon, killing bosses and tough enemies in very few shots (fully charged that is). My loadout also causes a shit ton of lag though, so there's that. It does have issues against that ball boss in the boss rush stage though, since you have a narrow area to hit it.

Considering that recently Konami had released some Anniversary Collections of its games (such as Contra and Castlevania), it would be nice if it makes one Anniversary Collection for Gradius that might include the first two arcade games (even though those two are already available in the Arcade Classics collection, but still...), the NES version of Gradius, the Famicom version of 2, THIS VERSION OF 3 (THE SNES VERSION AND NOT THE CRAPPY-ASS ARCADE ONE), the Gradius games for Game Boy and maybe Life Force for NES. That kinda proves that Konami is slowly pulling its head out of its ass with all that Pachinko bullcrap and that horrendous bastardization of one of its most beloved franchises known as Metal Gear Survive... but it's still a looong way to go for them to make a real comeback...

IF YOU HAVE CALLED GRADIUS 3 ARCADE CRAPPY-ASS JUST FOR THE PAINFUL DIFFICULTY, YOU ARE TOTALLY A JERKASS! Gradius 3 Arcade is one of the great Gradius game made and i played so far. They didn't wanted to make the game painfully hard on purpose. But because it came out in a year, 1989, where game's operators keep putting pressure on developers because they wanted their game, extremely hard. Same for the original 1P Fire Shark JP version. So, do the favor of not call it crap-ass. Would you like it if i called Gradius 3 SNES, a DIRTY REBOOT OF GRADIUS 2? At least Gradius 3 AC tries to being a new game with new features and enviroments to offer. Gradius 3 SNES just took away many of the new features that the arcade version offers and replace them with the many from Gradius 2 AC, making him a reboot of Gradius 2 that takes the name of Gradius 3. Pathetic. I prefer play Gradius 2 AC rather than this imperfect port.
