This is the Boss Rush video made by Shinya split into 3 parts (due to 10min limit). This video features loop 10 stages 1-3 bosses.

Awesome skills. The soundtracks to this game in particular are brilliant- and that's just one aspect to like about this excellent old-skool (yet modern) classic. Too many games are too easy in the modern day (at least that's what I find) but this bucks the trend favourably...

(To soulreaper7x) Some short conversations during stage 2 & stage 7 & stage 8 which cannot be skipped, that is what they called the storyline. One of the reason is that it is important so the player will understand what the unidentified ship in stage 2 is about, and what the other Vic-Viper is about. The other reason is that the conversation also fits the background musics specifically designed for the game.

to ( piggypoo ) if you're wondering how shinya is evading those green rings lasers vs bigcore riv1.2 there is a programmed limit for the received shots called hit-box ^_^ it's located in the very center of vic viper ^_^ shinya was very smart on measuring the distance between the laser and the hit-box while trying the hardest possible to keep the laser in the center of the ship for not to get hit by the green rings lasers vs bigcore riv 1.2 ^_^ same to other bosses in the very close calls ^_^

This game is spoon awesome! I still play it today in my free time, especially with my brother. This has got to be my favorite Konami-made shooter, besides Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius.

yes as far as i saw that it is the best legendary game since 1985 when gradius history started and many people had admitted that it was the best classic series to this day after 24 years of intense shooting action ^_^

Because the width of the hitbox of the rings are wider than that of the Vic Viper. So the rings will get hit by the lasers before they even touch the Vic Viper.

@jmuir29 No that would be the object of really high loops. But the point is to get through the end of the game just like any SHMUP. this video is all bosses on loop 10 where the difficult maxes out.

The actual hit box is the cockpit, the rest of the ship is unaffected. That's why you can get away with a lot of these moves.

ok and about the music and the bosses ? in weapon design Gradius V got 4 option types ^_^ there is E-laser in Gradius V which is also a chargable shot ^_^ Gradius V was also made by a genius directors from ikaruga by treasure ^_^ most people loves ikaruga just check out some videos of the final bosses .. i CHALLENGE your game R-type to have the same tough bosses like ikaruga and Gradius V with they're awesome musics and moves ^_^ Gradius was first started as scramble in 1981 before R-type XD

dobkeratops pwns brain golem rtype stage 3 battleship pwns big-core etc well it's all personal preference for me the 2 favourite schmup weapons are bouncing laser & helical laser from r-type :) gradius options following the craft have nice motion i know i will admit that gradius V is better than r-type final, but when i judge original games in historical context r-type=pinacle of schmups

this game looks more like a bullet hell shoot em up than the gradius we all know and love. and in true bullet hell fassion,the hitbox is smaller than a grain of sand

It says a lot about a game's difficulty when TETRAN, one of the easiest Gradius bosses ever, is completely ridiculous in its unrelenting waves of shots, and yet is still one of the "easier" bosses in the game.

Only looks that way because of him playing in loop 10 mode, which I would assume is probably the toughest mode in Gradius V.

you're posting this on a gradius video, so of course most people here are going to say gradius V is better (myself included :) however, that was the general opinion I got via google (search for "best ps2 scrollshooter", or something similar), when I was figuring out which to buy.

Very hard and on high loops. The game gets harder every loop, and by loop, it means replaying the game again right after the end credits.

hell dobkeratops only sits still lashing tail. but its a nice creature design. Schmup bosses not known for IQ, it's not their purpose. R-Type was made by Irem gradius V is spectacular high pace game true, and i really want similar game for modern console in 1080p. (even port gradius V please konami!) but best ever elements in schmup history appeared in r-type :)

horses for courses. gradius v is fantastic i admit. first isn't always best. r-9 pwns vic viper :) rtype final has many variants of weapons.. but i'm fan of simpler well-designed objects. what i like in r-type - the different weapons switch tactics. shield attatch/detach front/back chargeable shot, and switch 3 types of laser. -> then the levels are designed around this variety. more possibility in the system gradius more just blasting .. no harm i guess ikaruga's system didn't appeal to me.

R-Type Delta feels slightly more epic. Final is ok.....Giga Wing/Mars Matrix is one of my faves..., G-Darius, DonPachi, Galaga, Space Invaders 95, Ikaruga.... love shumps. Feel free to add ne I've missed

I remember when I used to listen to IGN... I saw their review for this and never went back to their site. "Your ship can't move using ONE of the FOUR option types which sux because we want a broken game with awesome graphics, blood, gore, or mainstream." Why let you move AND aim your options? to ( roniepao ) Gradius - thunder force & even ikaruga own R-type XD Gradius is better than R-type because of the musics - tough bosses - Graphics & even 2 player mode ^_^ thunder force is better than R-type because of the same reason but only the problem is the 2 player mode ^_^ ikaruga in everything better than R-type XD OH and one last thing ^_^ i think none had noticed that R-type may was also made from konami because it was in MSX while konami was mostly making the best MSX games ^^
