LOVED THIS GAME!!! Working on one like it, based off of a comic my brother and I created as children called, "Armament of Volition". In high school we did a game (RPG), which was heavily inspired by Chrono Trigger, gameplay-wise and worked hard to make it look like Guilty Gear (PS1). You didn't travel time, but different planets. The 7 man crew within the living ship call themselves "The Stardust Wolves", which is also the name of their metal band (only 5 of them are actually in the band). It is of course piloted by the main character, Einar Ulrik. He is part human and of a primordial alien race called the Zayinn. He is accidentally sent to Earth as a baby, due to being stolen by what is essentially a death cult named Pandemonium after being marked for immediate termination, when it is learned he is born with a rare and very dangerous mutation. The living ship called "Star Edge", is from another dimension. It is later given somewhat of a physical body, to upload it's consciousness into and helps pilot, along with providing info on various things, it is given the name Mimir, or just simply Mim.. This of course is done by their engineer (Technomancer) Sev (Seven, he was a test subject from planet Noveres, within the Andromeda star system).. He looks like a Dwarf and Red Panda lol and has a cybernetically augmented interface system implanted into his body.. The shooting game would be third person, allowing the player to move the camera all around, because there are crazy things I'd like to do with enemy attacks, as well as the various attacks from the ship.. One of Einar's crew members Aster, from the planet Dyo uses Astromancy and is hooked to an amplifier that allows him to use some of his abilities outside of the ship, like one of his "spells" called "Magnetosphere" which briefly puts a shield around the ship and destroys (or damages) things that are in close proximity. I would have the game looking like Guilty Gear.. Each stage is called a track, because the music is actually from their band, but each track fits the stage. The music is played by his childhood toy, a harmonic idol (droid) named "Bragi"... Which is based on Robie Sr robot from Radio Shack in the 80s 🤣

I still haven't been able to beat the 1st run in the hard mode. I lose one too many VVs at the Blaster Cannon Core, the latter half of the green gel stage, the high-speed stage and multiple spots at the last stage. Oh, I also crash into walls too often. You are a true genius. Your level cannot be achieved by practice alone; you have to have beyond-human level eyes!!! I don't know what happened to Konami, once the king of shooting games. Gradius V came out in 2004, but after that there has been no Gradius or Salamander. I still enjoy this game on PS2, but Konami is overdue for the next Gradius & Salamander on PS4 or PS5 platform. All other Japanese companies also disappoint me; Taito, Irem, etc...

Wow, this is incredible!! I remember playing the hell out of this game back when I worked for GameStop. Me and the key holder would stay after closing and get a couple of runs in! So much nostalgia! And that soundtrack... 👌 You are clearly a legend at this genre, my friend. Masterfully played. 🤩 Out of curiosity, what is your favorite custom load out, and do you have videos of you using it?

Hey thanks for the message. Wish I had experienced this game on release back in the day like you did, I had taken a long break from console games during that time. Wait until you see the second and the third loops, the difficulty will keep increasing all the way to the 10th loop, if you even make it that far.

Am currently watching your run now since I just bought the 'cheaper' Japanese version of the game. Seems the option freeze is the key to getting past the entirety of the 1st loop with practice.

I believe the Japanese version is identical to the us version gameplaywise, they just have a few minor differences like calling options multiple instead. Type 1 is the best type on the game, even better if you combine it with the edit mode and use spread bombs.

I remember watching my brother and my nephew playing this game. Even with 4 lives, neither made it to the end of stage 2 with 1 credit. Honestly this is harder than DoDonPachi Daioujou, which in itself is absurdly hard.
