The Fake Little River Band are being fraudulent and stealing money off unsuspecting fans and pay lots of money to see what they thing is the original band that had all the hits on the charts years ago. It’s fraud that they are allowed to do this and pretend to be impersonating others. They should be put in jail and fined heavily for committing fraud.

WOW! Thanks a million for this detailed explanation by Graeham! It's sad and pitiful that the current owners of the name come from a space of scarcity that they're willing to do business and cheat fans of the original music and artists of the Little River Band. Personally, I had the same response when I heard the "American" version and went on a chase to find the original musicians and music. Thank God they're here on KZbin. If it's any consolation to Graeham and the other original band members and songwriters, they should know that lifetime fans like me are "reminiscing" about their original music performance and delighted by their artistry. No.one can take that appreciation and adulation away from them! Nothing beats the original. Cheers!

Graeme, Glen , Beeb, there is no confusion about LRB in Australia, nobody can possibly mistake that sound. Fist heard Emma on the radio aged 7. Now I’m 55 and I still can’t get your songs out of my head. Saw you at billboard nightclub Melbourne as a young teen(VIP booth). John Farnham playing to win. Couldn’t believe anyone could sound like that live. I agree with the interviewer- the current lineup would have to produce a miracle to do well in Aus. I don't intend to be more hurtful to these musicians who gave Us so much...but re-think your tag line re: Beeb Birtles..maybe it also applies to Graeham. A fellow Aussie,Rick Springfield says in his book that early on he learned from an old hand "Never let anyone else deposit the checks", to paraphrase. It left a strong impression on him. Rick (who knows Beeb) admits publicly he has made a ton of mistakes in life, but so far, by all accounts, he still owns his name.

Housden owns the name and is actually Australian. He’s the one responsible who is making a buck and while it can be viewed that he’s screwing over his Aussie compatriots, everyone left the band. The American musicians are doing what any musician would do if met with a lucky gig - tour and get paid; the legacy is not their business. Can’t fault them for that - the originals all bowed out and signed away everything. It’s not their fault that the originals aren’t in the band and signed crappy deals. They’re not “treating anyone badly.”

She was extremely excited about the show and asked me to go because she knows how I love them. And I said, let me see what you have. I looked and said NO WAY!! I had seen the line up with Housden and asked what happened to Glen and Beeb. They told me that they quit. (I was the sound Eng then at the bar) When I told my daughter the story, and made her understand that she would be seeing a tribute band, aside from Wayne (The Night Olws guy), she trashed the tickets and said F them!! I agreed …..lol A few years later I downloaded BSG Live and gave her the CD as a gift. And told her HERE is the real LRB! She was in awe!!! Loved it!! I'm so grateful to see / hear Graeham's perspective and versions of events; as I come to watch this video having only heard the briefest of explanations about this matter previously from Shorrock interviews. Listening to Graeham speak, I think it's another glowing example of Glenn Wheatley's capacity to completely f¢u# over an agreement and anyone associated with it. It's amazing to me that in Wheatley's complete incompetence and mismanagement he was still capable of legally awarding himself a profitable settlement to the exclusion of the other parties - the original band members. Whilst Wheatley's contributions to the success of John Farnham and Whispering Jack is well documented and the praise and recognition for this is well deserved; he has also been at the core of some of the most disastrous decisions and consequences ever kept out of the collective consciousness and public's mind. The intentional hurt and harm caused to the original members of the band is just criminal.

In 2013 my wife and I were touring around the western mountain states in the US. In the back roads of Arizona we stopped to refuel our hire car. The servo was in the middle of nowhere near an Indian reservation. While filling, I saw across the road tied to a fence, a banner flapping in the wind. The banner was announcing that LRB was playing there next week! I took a photo and thought what would the original members think of that. A very sad situation. The current line up should be called The Little River Cover Band and relinquish the original name back to the original founding members Graeham Goble, Beeb Birtles, Glenn Shorrock, Derek Pellicci, George McArdle and David Briggs and let them enjoy the royalties and the fame they so richly deserve. I have been a massive fan of the original band since I first heard the opening riff of Curiosity Killed The Cat on radio way back in 1975 and from then on I was hooked and bought every Album they made on the day they were released . In my opinion the real reason why the current line up won't let them tour under the guise of The Original Little Little River Band is they fear they will be found out as the imposters that they really are. The roots of the Little River Band were sewn back in 1972 when Graeham Goble formed a band known as Mississippi and released a great song called "Kings Of The World" (check it out on UTUBE) and with revolving door of musicians coming and going they eventually evolved into The Little River Band and the original songs are still as fresh today as when they were released all those years ago.

I have no regrets leaving the music business back in the early 1980's. The amount of sharks and opportunists-never mind the egotistical asshole "artists" I encountered-made it an easy decision for me. Seems there's a well-documented history of con and rip-off artists who've taken advantage of young and/or business-ignorant musicians from the very beginning. And then you have fellow bandmates getting greedy and turning on each other down the line. Musicians I know who stuck it out and continued and even some who "made it big" aren't faring so well these days. In today's "music business" climate, artists either have to have start out with their own legal team and marketing plan with the music and creativity aspect being secondary. Maybe that's why what passes as "music" these days is canned, formulaic garbage. Gone is the Art.

Right. Exactly, the original guys never bothered to trademark/copyright the name. They left the Intellectual property aspect unguarded and the bassist (IIRC) went to the registraar ,filled out the paperwork and owns the name.

Yes, if I'm not mistaken, Jim Kale got the trademark for The Guess Who name in the early 80's when he happened to learn no one owned it. He did this without knowledge of the other members ans this was at a time before bands and their members were not aware of trademark issues as they are today. It's a shady thing to do.

I think Cummings and Bachman both acknowledge that they screwed up by letting Kale register The Guess Who trademark under his name, which he did in 1977, I think. I saw that lineup in '79, knowing who was and wasn't in the band at the time, and it was...okay. Which was all it was going to be with no Bachman, Cummings, or Kurt Winter. At least Jim Kale was an original member. Stephen Housden came in at the tail end of the hits.

The Beatles Northern Songs sold, McCartney said, why should he have to pay millions of dollars to get his songs back which he wrote for free? Mike Love got screwed by Murray Wilson. Matthew Fisher. Wheatley would have known what was going to happen as the members left leaving a bigger share to split between only 2 people and he must of known about the trade mark registration but chose not to tell anyone about it. Would like to hear wheatley's explanation.
@lasentinal
@lasentinal 3 жыл бұрын
From Wikipedia... In July 2007, Wheatley pleaded guilty to charges of tax evasion and faced the possibility of up to 16 years in jail.[1] On 19 July 2007, he was sentenced in the County Court to 30 months jail, with a minimum of 15 months to be served. In order to reduce his sentence he informed on his lawyer "to save his own skin".[8] "I'm ashamed of what I have done", Wheatley said in court. "It was something that I have regretted for a long, long time and I'm ashamed of what I've brought on my family, who have had to suffer a lot."[9] During the trial, many high-profile Australians presented character references for Wheatley, including John Farnham, Sydney Swans' chairman Richard Colless and entertainer Bert Newton. One reference, from army general Peter Cosgrove, described Wheatley as a "very honest and upright person".[9] However, Commonwealth prosecutor Richard Maidment, SC, said "The fraud that was instigated (by Wheatley) can be described as sustained and sophisticated. Tax fraud is not to be seen as a victimless crime."[9] Wheatley was released from Beechworth Correctional Centre on 19 May 2008, and was moved to home detention with electronic surveillance for the remainder of his sentence.[10] Wheatley completed his detention on 18 October 2008 and immediately left for an overseas holiday.[11] On 14 May 2010, Wheatley was charged with drink driving after recording a blood alcohol level of 0.08 by a random breath testing unit in Rushcutters Bay, New South Wales. He faced Waverley Court on 9 June 2010 and pleaded guilty. His licence was suspended for six months and he received an $850 fine.[12]

I'll be honest, I've always been on the 'you sold the name' side of the fence. Graeme, however, comes across as a very honest and genuine guy who is completely frustrated by the whole situation and how a little naivety probably got him into it. Glenn Shorrock, on the other hand, portrays himself as a very bitter old man in all the interviews I've seen and I think Graeme may have his the nail on the head as to why on this very interview. In 1997 Glenn Shorrock knew that the company had value because it owned the trademark, yet he still sold his share. It appears to me that he realises he made a mistake, in fact a HUGE f**k up but won't admit it, but deflects the blame away from himself. He constantly bleets on about how the name was stolen etc. Graeme Goble speaks very candidly and in a completely matter of fact manner about the whole situation making it much clearer than I've ever heard it explained before. Thank you for this. My opinion of Glenn Shorrock hasn't changed, but my opinion Graeme Goble has done a great deal.

Shouldn't the responsibility for the situation be addressed by Glenn Wheatly (either company or estate) as it was his legal position to carry out due diligence as the bands manager to represent the financial interests of the original LRB. The fact that he was able to assign himself 1% point of the new entity only reinforces the fact the there was a financial opportunity in the transfer of title.

Sadly saw the 'new' LRB in Taupo and immediately thought WTF is this??? Sad history being explained here. Even sadder, is that the Steve Housden's, Wayne Nelson of this world can lie straight in bed and sing songs, make money from it knowing they shared time and space with the Original members and not treat them with any regard or respect. That is not what music is about.....

As an American, I’m ashamed of what these people have done to BSG. They should call them the Little Rip-off Band. The real LRB is one of the most underrated bands of all time and vocally unsurpassed. Burton Cummings and the Guess Who have a similar situation and every time I see one of them touring I do my best to let people know it’s a cheap imitation.
